Amy is fiercely independent, with a high-powered career, a flat of her own and tight-knit friendships. But as she approaches her 30th birthday, she can't help but rue the one thing she doesn't have - a relationship. When Amy comes round after a serious fall, she doesn.t remember anything from the last six months. Not even the week skiing at her aunt's luxurious chalet in Val D'Isere with her mum and best friends to celebrate her birthday. And she doesn't remember being swept off her feet by the handsome Dr Jack Stewart.

This is a fast paced read from the beginning and I was hooked in straight away. It's a little bit farfetched so suspend your beliefs whilst reading and you'll enjoy the story better. Filled with twists, this book has an unexpected ending and it definitely not what I thought it was going to be. As Amy's memory comes back, she begins to question the intensions of her boyfriend Jack. I liked the authors style in writing this book. I was suspicious of everyone.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #PanMacmillan and the author #MichelleFrances for ARC of #TheBoyfriend in exchange for an honest review.

A good read which I thoroughly enjoyed with a good story line although I did find just before halfway through I lost a bit of interest. It did seem to pick-up but I felt it didn't have that nail biting finish that I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed.

I am not sure I would recommend this book but thank you to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Following Amy's life after a fall, leaving her with memory loss. Told from more than one perspectives, mainly Amy's. After having been single for soo long, she is unsure who Jack is, her soo called boyfriend. Can this be true?.. he knows soo much. Will Amy's memory return?...

The Boyfriend is not what I expected in many ways, very much a psychological mystery. I found it a bit of a slow burner, than about half way through got a lot more intriguing. Makes you question your initial suspicions at times. Got to the end and wanted it to go on further, and then it stops. Overall great read.

I started off being intrigued by this storyline; A woman wakes from having had an unexplained accident and has lost her memory. Then, a boyfriend she doesn't remember is introduced. So far, so interesting. However, unfortunately for me, the interest soon waned as the story didn't really develop and I found it slow and meandering as well as predictable.

An OK read, but, not for me.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview.

Wow oh wow!!. What a fantastic edge of your seat twisted tale this was!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book me this is one of my new favourite authors!!.
The story starts as Any calls and knocks herself unconscious. From then on, there is confusion, in buckets!. I stayed up late and found myself picking it up to read more if I woke early, stayed up late to read it. I could not put it down. Now I'm hoping and praying there's a sequel?? I would definitely buy the one!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley for the free ARC book for an honest review.

This is a great premise - a woman who after a head injury can't remember the last six months including her seemingly too-good-to-be-true new boyfriend. And, it starts well but becomes quite samey as Amy tries to regain her memory and quite obvious where the story is going with the early introduction of Harry. The biggest twist for me was not the reveal but Harry's u-turn from someone you could sympathise with and understand to someone you couldn't, it wasn't so much a character development or unreliable narrator as a total misfit. In fact the ending in general was deeply unsatisfying and sadly more of a non-ending. Despite being quite critical, I did enjoy the read but it just didn't wow me or quite live up to its premise or my previous read by this author.

I think The Boyfriend is one of those marmite books, you either love it or you hate it. For me I’m middle of the road with it. Some parts were too slow, other parts were totally predictable, yet I was compelled to finish it so would rate it three stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and the author for the chance to review.

I did enjoy this book, but there were a few discrepancies that annoyed me. It kept me guessing to near the end, and the overall premise was good. It's read another by this author

Wow! That’s how I’m going to start this review. Any book that keeps me awake until 2 o’clock in the morning so that I can finish it, is a brilliant book as far as I’m concerned. Don’t get me wrong, I tried to be sensible and put it down to get some sleep, but then I was lying there in the dark and wanted to know what happened – it was like binge watching a series on Netflix – there was absolutely no way that I could sleep without knowing the conclusion!

At the start of the story, lawyer Amy is approaching her 30th birthday when she slips and bangs her head. This leaves her with temporary amnesia which means that she can’t remember anything that happened in the last six months. She certainly doesn’t remember her boyfriend Jack, a busy doctor who has yet to meet her friends and family. From there the story builds as Amy narrates us through her account of events, and you’re left not knowing if her version is real or is it paranoia from her brain injury!

There were times when I was really anxious for her, I desperately wanted to people to believe her, although deep down there were occasions when I wasn’t so sure myself! I became a real “Doubting Thomas!”

The writing style drew me in from the very beginning and I wanted to know more although some of it will make you feel uncomfortable and awkward as you become suspicious of everyone!

A brilliant read and one that I will recommend to everyone!!!

Book 75 of 2021

Well, my final book of the year was a goodun'. Thank you to @NetGalley, @panmacmillan and the author Michelle Frances for the advanced copy of 'The Boyfriend'. Advance praise comes from Louise Candlish (whose books are fabulous) who says she tore through the pages and this was me yesterday, ripping through the book so I would reach the conclusion.

Amy Kennedy fell on ice, banged her head and now has amnesia. She has no knowledge of the past six months but whilst in hospital, learns she already has a birthday trip booked to Val D’Isere in the French Alps with her mother and two close friends. Thinking this holiday will be great to celebrate her 30th birthday but also good to relax and hopefully recover her memory, Amy travels to the beautiful resort. She is surprised when a knock on the door reveals her boyfriend Dr Jack Stewart and she has no memory of him at all. During the next few days some memories return but very vaguely. Amy is convinced that Dr Jack is not who he seems but her friends and mother are bowled over by his charm.

Other chapters are narrated by Harry, a young man who is tired of being on the bottom rung of the ladder. Harry's story gripped me as much as Amy's and as the book progresses the relevance of this character becomes clear.

It was a great book to end the year on. Put it on your pre-order list for February 2022. ☺️

This book will turn your mind inside out! Brilliantly written, the story leaves you not knowing what to believe and really puts you in the shoes of Amy who has suffered amnesia after hitting her head in a fall. She has lost the last 6 months of her memories, which includes all knowledge of her boyfriend Jack.

Jack seems perfect and on a trip away to celebrate Amy’s birthday with her mum and best friends, Jack charms everyone. But then Amy starts to remember the past…

Brilliantly twisty this book will keep you guessing and really hold your attention until the very last page.

A hugely addictive, twisty and chilling read!

Drawn in by the amazing front cover of this book, followed by the intriguing blurb, I knew this would be a book I’d enjoy. Hooked within the first few pages, I struggled to put this one down and enjoyed every bit of the story, with fantastic twists and turns throughout and an unexpected ending, this book gets five big stars from me!

Amy wakes in the hospital to find out she’s had a fall and sustained a head injury. Not only can she not remember the fall, but the last six months are a complete blur too. As far as Amy is concerned, she is single, so it comes as a bit of a shock to her when she finds out that she is in a relationship. Hunky doctor Jack Stewart is the dream man that Amy had been searching for, what a shame she can’t remember him or how they met.

Upon being discharged from the hospital Amy also learns she is due to go on holiday for her 30th birthday to the French Alps with her mum and two best friends. The doctors give her the go-ahead to travel and Amy hopes this might be the relaxing break she needs to help recover her memory. Unfortunately, the snow is not the only chilling thing on this trip, and as Amy starts to remember snippets from the past few months, the story takes a shocking twisty turn!

Oh, I do love reading a chiller thriller, especially at this time of year. I’ve never been to the Alps or anywhere very snowy but the description of the setting in this book made me feel as if I’d just walked through the wardrobe to Narnia. The story itself was incredibly gripping and whilst I thought I knew where it was heading there was still an element of doubt throughout and lots of shocking twists that I did not expect.

The characters were all brilliant and I didn’t trust any of them, not even Amy’s mum and especially not her new, almost too good to be true, boyfriend Jack!

Amy’s amnesia was described so well in the story, that I felt her brain fog myself. I couldn’t work out if what Amy remembered was real or her mind playing tricks on her. I have read a few books where the main character has some form of amnesia, but this is one of the best.

I thought I had the ending sussed but it took a turn I did not expect, which was awesome and had me wanting more! I feel a sequel could be possible!

Thank you so much to Michelle Frances, Pan Macmillan & NetGalley for my copy of this fantastic book.

Having read The Girlfriend long ago, I was excited to read this one.

Unfortunately, it didn't hold my attention for too long. The fact that the main character discovers she has a boyfriend after losing part of her memory and she sees this as a triumph so she is not seen as a 'pathetic' single person made me very angry, as the aim of every person in this world is to be in a relationship in order to be accepted by society. Disappointing since Amy seems to be an independent person before losing her memory. And her friends attitude didn't help either, very childish and unbelievable relationship.

Thank you NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my earc in exchange for an honest review.

I found it really difficult to get into this book. The story seemed unbelievable and failed to hold my interest. Sorry was just not for me. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it

This book is so far fetched, it actually made me quite angry by the end.
Not only is the book super repetitive, it ends on a slight cliffhanger as if to suggest that more books are to come in this series.
We're constantly questioning whether Amy is a reliable narrator - but the fact her own friends are questioning her annoyed me! Surely her mates would stick by her?
The whole thing was just so unbelievable and I am disappointed that i stuck it out until the end, as the ending just wasn't worth it!

Amy loses her memory after a fall. Is Dr Jack really her boyfriend when she cant remember anything about him. There are some good twists in the story which I did guess, but that didnt stop me enjoying this book. Well worth a read

Amy is a very career driven woman, but what she'd love more than anything is someone to share her life with. She has great friends, but they're all settled and at times she feels like a loose cog in a wheel, the odd one out. When Amy suffers a head injury after a serious fall she wakes up in hospital having lost her memory from the last six months, but she's gained a boyfriend, the charming and caring Dr Jack Stewart, she has no recollection of him or the fact that she's arranged a a skiing holiday at her Aunt Esme's chalet in Val d'Isere with her mum, Martha and her best friends Lisa and Jenna, to celebrate her thirtieth birthday. It's the first time they've all met Jack and they're instantly charmed by him, but Amy is certain something is not quite right about him and finds his presence very unsettling, is he really the man he says he is?

The Boyfriend is told across two timelines, February which follows Amy's story and January which follows Harry's, his involvement becomes clearer later in the book. It's a disconcerting time for Amy, not being able to remember events that have happened must be quite frustrating, especially when she starts to get flashbacks and still can't piece things together, but discovers enough to know that something doesn't quite feel right, yet her mum and friends didn't agree with her concerns! I enjoyed the premise of this latest read, my third by this author, which has a few twists, although I did guess quite early on where it was heading. The ending could maybe lead into a sequel, who knows?

I'd like to thank Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for the approval, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Hooked from the start! I couldn't put this down.
Amy suffers a head injury and when she wakes up she has no memory of her boyfriend even though he seems perfect.
Each chapter brought more suspicion and suspense right up to the last.

I wasn't familiar with Michelle Frances' books, but this one really gripped me. I loved it straight away.

The story centres around Amy, who after an accident, wakes up in hospital with no memory of the last six months of her life. Enter Jack, her amazing, loving boyfriend of several months, of whom Amy has no memory whatsoever. He appears so perfect and charming, but is he really all he seems?

I love books with an "unreliable narrator". Suspicion creeps in and Amy starts to doubt Jack's intentions, but she has a head injury, so could this be affecting her judgment? One of her friends is also acting strangely around her and Amy can't remember why.

The descriptions of the ski slopes were vividly drawn, and the atmospheric snowy setting of the chalet was absolutely perfect for this time of year and really added to the sense of eeriness and isolation.

Amy's sense of unease continues to grow, especially as everyone else seems to adore Jack, and she begins to feel increasingly vulnerable and alone. I was swept up in the fast paced twists and tension and finished the book in two days.

Excellent chilling psychological thriller, perfect for these cold, wintry evenings. Highly recommended.

Thanks to the author, Michelle Frances, publishers Pan Macmillan and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
