Amy wakes up in hospital and finds out that she has fallen on the ice in the street and has a head injury.
She is unable to remember anything of the previous six months including the fact that she has a new boyfriend.
I found it really difficult to get into this book. The story seemed unbelievable and failed to hold my interest.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Amy wakes up in hospital with no memory of the past 6 months of her life...... She had a terrible fall and banged her head, They say her memory will come back, but they don't how long it will take!! Is the boyfriend Dr Jack all he seems to be? Amy can't remember anything about him or what they've done since being together, but he seems to be able to full in all the blanks for her.
She decided to go ahead with the planned trip.to France for her 30th birthday with her friends and her mum, but Jack can't make it, he had to work!! Then he turns up at the cabin for a surprise, he managed to.get time off after all! Lots of twists and turns after this point as Amy begins to get some of her memory back. Big cliffhanger at the end though and would love a follow up to know what happens next.

Loved this book read in less than a day, would love to see it made into a film!!!!

Really enjoyed the twisted nature of this story and how Amy was treated and left feeling. Absolute cliffhanger at the end and now want a follow on to see what happened next!!

Having read The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances and enjoyed the book, I was looking forward to reading The Boyfriend and was not disappointed. For me, this was a story about loneliness, friendship, illness and being single! I enjoyed the writing style. Amy Kennedy, single, a lawyer and Harry Clarke, barman are the main characters. Harry's character riled me something awful! The storyline can be gleaned from the book's fly cover and I enjoyed my reading journey.

I give a 4 star rating.

I WANT TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THE BOOK IN RETURN FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Usually I love a psychological thriller and when I was given the chance to read this ARC I took it.
The Boyfriend is about Amy. She wakes up in hospital and has lost the previous six months of her memory - Including any knowledge of her relationship with the handsome and mysterious Dr Jack.
Despite him not visiting her in hospital or responding to her texts Amy continues with her 30th birthday celebrations skiing in France with her friends, assuming she had been dumped by Dr Jack.
By this point I had given myself a headache rolling my eyes due to the weak storyline and unlikeable characters. Even Jack showing up in France wasn’t enough to keep me interested and for the first time in many years I could not carry on with this book and it became a “Did not finish”
I tried. I really did. Instead of picking my kindle up to read I found myself choosing to do anything but carrying on with this story so it landed in the DNF bin.

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A great book, full of suspense and twists and turns. The ending wasn’t my favourite but it certainly didn’t ruin the book in any way, I would definitely recommended reading it, you won’t regret it!

When Amy comes around following a serious fall, she doesn't remember anything from the last six months. Not even the upcoming skiing holiday at her aunt's luxurious chalet in Val d'Isere with her mum and best friends to celebrate her birthday. And she certainly doesn't remember being swept off her feet by the handsome Dr Jack Stewart Jack is the full package - charming, caring and devoted to Amy. Everyone is smitten with him, but as the week goes on, Amy begins to find Jack's presence chilling. Is her broken mind playing tricks? Or is the perfect boyfriend really too good to be true? The Boyfriend is a twisting anti-love story that will keep you guessing with every page.
Would recommend.

Gripping, it kept me guessing for most of the book.
Loved the storyline and the development of the characters.
A true suspense

Twisting plot where even the reader starts to question whether what they have believed to be true. Realistically drawn characters, an easily imaginable setting and a unique set of circumstances that provides an excellent backdrop to the story. Didn't see the end coming nor its tantalising glimpse of what may follow.

I had a strong sense of deja vu reading this novel, I honestly feel like I've read it before. It was well written but should have been a short story. There is not enough going on so it feels really dragged out.

Anyone who knows me knows I enjoy psychological thrillers, so when Netgalley offered this Arc I was happy to give it whirl. After all a couple of authors of this genre had declared it “Terrific, fraught with suspense” and writer Louise Candlish apparently “tore through the pages” of every Michelle Frances novel she's read. Well, that's good enough for me, I thought, as I settled in for a thrilling read.....

...or so I thought...

Amy wakes up in hospital with no memory of how, when or why she was there. In fact she has no memory of anything that has occurred in the previous six months. She has no memory of the Wonderful Jack, her handsome and perfect boyfriend who, by sheer coincidence, is a doctor, and as such is far too busy to visit his girlfriend. Anyway, Amy is released from hospital, and goes home to prepare for a skiing holiday n France to celebrate her birthday, convinced that Handsome Jack has dumped her. Now you might be forgiven for thinking that Amy is going to celebrate her 18th birthday, but no it's her 30th!

One of her friends, Lisa, also a doctor, is a caring and loyal friend, the other one – Jenna - is weird, whilst her mother seems to enjoy wine just a little too much, and as for Jack....

So, what's wrong with Jenna, giving Amy those sneaky, sidelong glances?
Will Amy's mother stop drinking and sniping at Amy?
Will Amy's memory return?
Is Handsome Jack real or a figment of Amy's absent memory?

But – most important of all....
Do I care?

I've reached 20% on my kindle and I've read enough. The whole thing is just too silly, and if I didn't know better I would suggest it's aimed for a younger reading audience. It feels as though it's been written by someone entering a school writing competition.

There are so many really – really – good books out there. Don't waste your time on this with it's cheesy dialogue, flat characters and silly, predictable plot.

I loved the concept of this book, and was immediately drawn in by the copy and tagline. Amy's character arc was fascinating and I found myself drawn to her storyline. Jack and Amy had such an interesting power-play throughout the story, and whilst I was concerned that I would find Amy's memory loss a bit of a trope, it worked incredibly well.

I struggled a bit when we shifted to Harry's POV as it was slightly confused and the transition could have been clearer/ better signposted without giving anything away. It just meant it took too long to find myself settling into the story.

It's a fast-paced, exciting read full of interesting characters and an underlying sense of tension throughout the story. Four stars only because I found the Harry POV jarring, and I wasn't convinced it added much to the story that couldn't have been shown in a different way.

This story is a fast-paced page turner. The plot is clever, and is based on a series of unfortunate coincidences regarding Amy and Jack's "relationship". The ending was unexpected.

Michelle Francis is such an auto-buy of an author for me, but I’m afraid I didn’t quite get on with The Boyfriend. It starts well, with a hooking premise. The characters are compelling, but then one third of the way through when Amy’s memories return the plot gets repetitive with Amy yelling the truth and no-one believing her. I found Harry’s POV the best. He’s such an intriguing antagonist - a horrible person but his motivations are relatable and I can see why he’s the way he is, and strangely I found myself rooting for him. Had his POV been more fleshed out, with the plot tweaked and scenes shifted around this could’ve been a better book.

I really enjoyed this book. Amy, a 30 year old lawyer, has everything she wants apart from a relationship. When she comes round in hospital after having a fall, she is unable to remember anything from the last 6 months. So imagine her surprise to find that she has a boyfriend, handsome doctor Jack Stewart. When Jack joins her and her mother and 2 friends on a skiing trip they are all delighted to meet him. However, Amy soon begins to suspect that Jack is keeping secrets, and as her memory starts to return she is convinced that they are all in danger. This is a great page turner which will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

Thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and Michelle Francis for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I have always enjoyed Michelle’s books and this one certainly did not disappoint. It’s creepy and thrilling yet you can’t peel your eyes away from the pages.

It is quite quick-paced and is mainly told from two characters POV. I found it a little confusing at first but then adored it.

This will be the Thriller of 2021.

Amy is a successful lawyer with a lovely home and a great group of friends - in fact the only thing missing from her life is a special someone to share it with. Most of her friends are happily coupled up and Amy is becoming increasingly tired of being the token 'single girl'.
The story begins with Amy waking in hospital following a bad fall in the street which resulted in a head knock and complete memory loss of the previous 6 months of her life. As Amy's friends attempt to help her recall Amy is stunned to discover that the past few months of her life have been spent with her boyfriend Dr Jack Stewart, who sounds like the perfect man. But where is he?
Despite her injury and ongoing memory issues Amy decides to keep her plan to spend her 30th birthday at her aunt's ski lodge in Val d'Isere with her closest friends and her Mum. Amy was disappointed to learn that boyfriend Jack was unable to attend due to work so is surprised when Jack arrives at the lodge soon after Amy and friends. But something doesn't feel right to Amy and before long she begins to experience some snippets of her memory return leaving her scared and confused. What caused Amy's fall that night? Why did Jack not run to her side immediately after the accident? And why does Amy's good friend Jenna seem to be furious with her?
Alongside this there is a parallel storyline focussing on Harry, a charming and handsome bartender who seems down on his luck but also is hiding a dark past.
I really enjoyed this book although I felt that I could see a number of the twists coming well in advance. Nevertheless a really good read, entertaining and held my attention easily. Michelle Frances is definitely a new 'go to' author for me and I have enjoyed every book I've read so far!
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the ARC - a solid 4 stars from me.

Thank you for my copy of this book to review.

I have read all of the previous books by Michelle Francis so was looking forward to this next one.

I thought the storyline was a bit far fetched but it was well written and well paced. Amy got on my nerves a bit and I actually preferred the side story of Harry to be honest. I thought the ending felt a bit rushed and left me feeling a bit flat but it was an easy read and wouldn’t put me off reading any future books.

Just so enjoyable - not groundbreaking, or particularly shocking, and certainly not realistic but so well written and whipped along at a great pace. highly recommended.

I adore Michelle's books so this was an absolute joy for me. I had no idea where the story was going, but it didn't disappoint. It left me guessing until the very end. Thrilling, chilling and addictive!!
