This fictional story was created by the author discovering items in antique stores, historical research, and personal experiences. It is the story of a boy in the mid-1800s, and he has an imaginary ghost friend. His father, a genius photographer pioneer, is taken by a counterfeit gang, but one of their horses escapes and helps the boy. He is led through instinct and coincidences. I also loved that the story is set in Ohio. It’s a good young adult novel. I think fans of animal stories like “Old Yeller” and “The Yearling” and some of the Jack London novels would like this.

I really enjoyed reading this, but felt it was occasionally a little too 'magical' (I know it was supposed to be; but I found some sections a little predictable / convenient at times); but I'm also an adult reading junior fiction, so I think that's also fine!
