This is a very tense but well detailed start which offers a great insight into the pressures of being a surgeon and how even straightforward procedures aren’t always what you expect. I look forward to seeing how this progresses

This is a review of Chapter One; and when I got to the end I was desperate to turn the page, find out more, find out what happens. So this is a must read. Engaging, not too technical for non-medical readers, and not too gory for the squeamish amongst us. Will definitely read the book.

This was a real and raw account of what it must feel like to be a surgical practitioner, when all trust is placed in you and the burden upon your shoulders. As an intensive care nurse, I found this fear somewhat relatable; the fear of failing your patient in one way or another. I can’t wait to read the full text! Wrote with great suspense!

I should have realised this was just the first chapter and not been so disappointed! The scene was set so we it left me wanting to go on and read the rest of the book, which I want to do. It definitely whetted my appetite….. Definitely at least 4 ⭐️ If it carries on the same way!

First chapter sample only of this high octane thriller. Starts with a propulsive and heart pounding situation which is dramatically and intricately described. Enough to be intrigued to read on. A skilled surgeon will make the best murderer…

Omg, no! Talk about starting with a bang...... I'm just gutted that it's only the 1st chapter so it starts and then that all we get. For now! Can't wait til the full book is released. I'm hooked after just 1 chapter

What an idiot, I didn't realise that this was just a sample of the book, the first chapter no less. . I was so looking forward to it, I was hooked from the first page, it most definitely left me wanting more.

The book opens straight into a high-risk situation. A team of doctors are trying to save a patient on the table. The first chapter immediately drew me in and I would be interested in reading the rest of the book.

As soon as I noticed that an excerpt (the first chapter) of the novel was available on NetGalley to read, I jumped at the chance to read it as I have read and loved all his previous novels. The fast-paced plot is edgy, dark and unpredictable and highly recommended. Another winner!

This is the short and tantalising first chapter of a highly anticipated book, by all accounts, which should appeal to lovers of clinically detailed medical thrillers, Jack Jordan has a concise and fluid writing style and this short taster makes me want to read the whole book.

This one chapter teaser starts off strong with a heart surgeon and her patient open on the table after a procedure. Did the procedure work? Will he live? The first chapter reveals, but I won't spoil it here. I look forward to reading the rest of the book.

Please give full book. I was thinking it's a whole book. I'm disappointed. I loved first chapter and want more.

This preview didn't make me want to pick up the book.
I was bored and uninterested in what was going on.
The premise wasn't set up well in the first chapter...I wasn't upset that I only got to read a chapter and not the whole book.

As it was World Book Day I took advantage through NetGalley and the publishers Simon & Schuster UK to get a sneaky preview of chapter 1. This is a new author to me and it looks like a medical thriller so I was up for the test.

Now I rarely read tasters or longer samplers as experience has shown me that apart from the writing style and tone little can be pictured of the book itself.

But World Book Day is about leaving your comfort zone, although I didn’t dress up as my favourite character.

Chapter 1 takes place in real time during a life saving operation. This is at odds with the tag lines that imply a surgeon is ideally placed to carry out the perfect murder.

I guess this opening sets the scene, makes the reader aware of the operating theatre and that in this case all eyes and the patient’s life rest with the main surgeon.

Too little to proclaim a success; no previous experience of this accomplished author. So what can I say. I would read on but despite other worthy novels and medical thriller writers I remain less inclined to read this sort of scenario.

I loved Coma by Robin Cook both the book and the movie were scary at the time. This is the code of all doctors - “Do no Harm” so it is an interesting premise.
However at my age it is a little close to home - your life in their hands is my, and most likely all of our futures. To think a Doctor could be manipulated to try less or induce death through a motiveless crime where they hold all the means of death. Conversely, with eyes watching on and the clinical standards always prepared to investigate one wonders if clumsy health care professionals are found out, sued and/or dismissed for gross negligence.

Guess I’d have to read the whole to judge the balance and realism of the plot.

The opening sampler chapter of Do No Harm drops the reader straight into the action of a heart transplant operation, as if you’re looking over the shoulder of the surgeon:
Watching the monitors.
Feeling the tension.
Seeing the drama first hand.
A promising opener to a promising sounding thriller. I look forward to reading more…..
