Full disclosure, I did not realise that this book was part of a series. However, like many romances I read it only and this did not detract from my enjoyment. Regency romances are always good, light fun summer reads for me. I recommend if that is something that you’re looking for.

A very delightful regency Groundhog Day story. Very entertaining as our dashing rake discovers what he needs to do to redeem himself.

This was an entertaining read, and I enjoyed the Groundhog Day conceit being moved back to the Regency very much! However, the repetitiveness of the wording, although necessary and clever to show the repeated actions, did make this a bit saggy in the middle, and I found the ending impossibly twee. You can have a happily ever after without making every single thing perfect for every single character! There's also a hint of Margaret being the reward for Philip getting his act together, which concerns me slightly from a feminist point of view; she doesn't grow much as a character due to the nature of the curse, so it occasionally feels like he just needs to be nice enough and she'll put out. Overall, this was fun but not my favourite - I'd give three and a half stars, if I could!

I was interested to see how the author would take the premise from Groundhog Day and turn it into a book. Congratulations to her for trying but I’m sorry to say that for me, it simply didn’t work as well as the film.
Whilst she tried to make the repetition interesting by choosing different elements of the day to focus on each time, it sadly did not work as well as the film version.

I started off interested and managed to stay interested for about 50% of the book but then I started to get bored and skim. I also found that it took far too long for Philip to be redeemed. Early scenes really showed him up as a thoroughly unlikeable man and the sex scenes of him with 3/4 in a bed just came across as yucky and vulgar without any sense of him actually enjoying himself..

By the end, I liked both him and Margaret but I thought it took far too long to get there.

It’s a well written book and there were some lovely set pieces in the story which the author handled really well. However, I just felt it was too long winded and repetitive. The film with Bill Murray and Andie McDowell was pitched perfectly and the visual element added to the perfect depiction of the repeating day, and the book just didn’t achieve that.

Just delightful! You’d think reliving the same day over and over and reading how a rake reforms himself would be dull - not at all. The story is told entertainingly and there are twists and differences each time as Philip works life out that draw you in. The progression from distasteful boar to likeable fiancé is brilliant and from what could have been a plodding narrative a lovely book is born that I read all in one go!

I wanted to like this book as the idea of a groundhog day was a new one in a book. However i didn't enjoy the majority of it and nearly gave up half way through. The beginning was Ok the end better but i found myself paging through about a third of it as it was so repetitive. I know the idea is the living of the same day over and over which is fine in theory but so boring in reality so cannot recommend it

The Redemption of Philip Thane by Lisa Berne

Philip is a roguish attractive rafe who meets the well educated and delightful Margaret Allen who is not really taken in by his handsome looks and rather churlish attitude. He just wants to do the task he’s sent to do and leave the quaint town of Whittlesey but he then starts to have a Groundhog Day. Of his only disastrous day and he must work out how to make it all stop and leave.

A lovely reasonably well written book. The book is rather slow going but eventually it all becomes clear about Philip and his past and how he must change. Lovely characters.

I absolutely loved this story! I started reading this as a fan of the movie Groundhog Day, and wondering how the author would translate that to centuries prior, and i have to say, i wasn't disappointed! The story was really well written, and in such a way that yes bits were frequently repeated, but didn't get tiresome. Philip was a first someone you genuinely hated, but it was so lovely to see his redemption. I really appreciated the fact the author added what i would almost call an epilogue which finished the story off nicely. I can't praise this story enough, and would heartedly recommend to anyone

Phillip Thane, rake, gambler and ne’er-do-well. He’s breezed through the past few years coasting on his charm and racking up debts. His lack of money leads to him asking an aunt for help, something she’ll only do if he visits a provincial town and give a speech. It’s here that he begins to experience the same day over and over. However it’s not all bad, as he gets to know the beautiful and intelligent Margaret Allen.

It’s a Groundhog Day story, a twist on the usual regency romance. Because he is reliving the same day the change in him, his redemption, is clear to see. The romance is sweet and chaste. It seems it isn’t just Philip that has some recollection of the previous versions of the day. Despite some anachronisms and Americanisms (sidewalk? Oatmeal?) it was an enjoyable enough read.
