Cleo writes a successful dating column. When her editor asks her to spend her 30th birthday on a remote island to ‘marry herself’, she agrees. Her love life isn’t going so well anyway! When she arrives on the island, she discovers a handsome but annoying American, Mack, at the one bedroom cottage, claiming he is staying there. With wild weather setting in, Cleo and Mack have no choice but to share the cottage. What could go wrong?

I loved this book. There was a healthy amount of escapism, imagining being in the small island with its close knit community. Cleo and Mack were both likeable characters and it was a joy to read about them. I definitely recommend this if you are after a feel good book!

I absolutely loved the author's debut One Day in December so was excited to read One Night on the Island.
Cleo and Mack are strangers who arrive at Otter Lodge on a remote Irish island to find that the lodge has been double booked. They have both come to the island for peace - Cleo to write and Mack, a photographer is temporarily escaping the breakdown of his marriage.
I felt that the novel started off well, Cleo and Mack are both likeable characters and I loved the author's atmospheric descriptions of the island location.
However, for me, the scenario of the characters sharing the studio lodge and their relationship did not quite ring true. I found that the descriptions of them sharing the studio space and their interactions became tedious and so I began to lose interest in the novel. I'll definitely look out for future novels from the author but this one wasn't for me.

This was a cute read and I absolutely loved the main characters, I was engaged in the story and just wanted everything to work out for them!

Oh gosh, where do I start with this one?

Positives first, Josie Silver is a fantastic author. Both Cleo and Macks stories really drew me in and there were aspects of it that I loved, and was on track to give it a five star. I loved Cleo finding herself, and the circle of women and I loved Macks vulnerability at times. I even loved their openers to have a holiday romance, but that's where it started to fall for me, I felt that Mack leaving the island was rushed and then ... without giving spoilers it went downhill from there.

I really thought that this could have been the perfect opportunity to show that some love stories are short stories but that doesn't make them any less powerful but unfortunately the only way this could have ended worse for me was if one of them woke up and it was all a dream.

Also the title makes absolutely no sense.

This was the perfect cosy romance; I loved Josie Silver’s ‘One Day in December’ and this one does not disappoint!

After really enjoying Josie Silver's One Day In December, while also having The Two Lives Of Lydia Bird on my bookshelf, I was excited to see what she did in her latest book.
But after over a year of having read only the first third of One Night on the Island, I thought it was about time that I left this review.
I have never left a DNF review on Netgalley before but after months and months of ultimately not going back to finish this, that's exactly what I feel like I need to do.
Sadly this was slow and really didn't capture my attention like I thought that it would have.
The romance and chemistry didn't grip me in the slightest either.
I also found it difficult to relate to or root for any of the characters.
I did like the parts where the two main characters interacted with the locals on the island. Those moments were nice but this was essentially a romance with little to no romance or chemistry, for me.

Cleo and Mac find themselves on a remote Irish island. This wasn’t meant to happen but there was a misunderstanding or mistake with the booking of the tiny cottage. So what could they do apart from share as this was the one and only place to stay and the boat wasn’t due back again for a few days. Firstly I absolutely loved the other two books by this author but I knew right from the first page that this definitely wouldn’t be the case with this one. So much so I even began to wonder if it even was the same person who wrote it/them! I found it tedious and the pair of them obnoxious. The only thing I did like was the description of the landscape. I certainly didn’t care about what they did or didn’t do, their problems or anything at all to do with them. Hopefully the next book will be less chic-lit and more like the previous novels!

Whilst I loved Silver's debut novel, I was less keen on this. I enjoyed the setting and also Cleo and Mack, but I didn't think that their chemistry was consistently great.

Overall I just thought this was fine- not bad or anything, just not my favourite.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

This was my first Josie Silver, and I don't think it will be my last!

For her Thirtieth birthday, Cleo takes herself on a solo, self-loving sabbatical, upon insistence from her manager. She is in need of some refreshing and renewing herself, and her column. She has a beautiful isolated cabin on a quiet small-town island, only grumpy Mac shows up insisting this cabin has been booked out by him for some restful time away to himself. They are instantly at odds with each other, and both refuse to give up the cabin, only to soon find out their stuck their together in the midst of a storm with nowhere to go.

Argh this was so fun and intense and spicy. I loved the writing and the banter. The tension and build-up. The characters, the ending UGH. Such a funny, cute, isolated romance and I'd absolutely recommend it to people new to the genre!

Another fabulous novel by Josie Silver. She is fast becoming one of my go to authors. You know what you’re going to get from the get go and honestly that’s what I like. I love her characters, her settings and her way with words. A great story that’s easy to read and will take you away to a different place. It’s my kind of escapism and I can’t wait for her next book already.

So, one cottage, on one very remote island, but somehow two complete strangers are both meant to be staying there, there’s no other places to stay and yup you guessed it, no more ferries back to the mainland for days.
This is ultimately about two lost souls (lost for different reasons) looking for the next right path to continue the next chapter of their lives.
This was a lovely story which pleasantly surprised me. Obviously, you know they’re going to have at least one night together, but at first I really couldn’t see how theses two characters could possibly ever be together. Cleo and Mack are so different, he seemed so impossible and I think I made him out to be older than he was which probably didn’t help, but in the end the author managed to soften him more and more and I feel like even I found him more likeable and attractive as Cleo did too.
Overall was a delightful story about an unexpected romance that I ended up really enjoying.

One Night On the Island was released earlier this year and I’ve only just gotten around to it! I decided to listen to this on audiobook as we had some credits stored up.

The story follows two main characters who are both on a vacation - one work related and one life related - on the island of Salvation. It’s the very definition of remote and by some unfortunate twist of fate Cleo and Mack have double booked their accommodation Otter Lodge. What follows is a forced proximity, hate to love, self discovery romance that will hook you from start to finish.

Both narrators were great and I loved how easy it was to really imagine the story through their voices. I did like the ending but I would have been equally happy with an alternative ending! I could relate to parts of each characters story and while I might not be marrying myself yet, I liked the message of self belief and self alliance that it promotes.

If you’ve not read this author before she also writes under Kitty and Kat French. My favourite Kat French novel is the first one I read - One Hot Summer.

This was a book for two half’s! I find the first half slow & difficult to engage with but the second half, was a different story! I couldn’t put it down!
- I loved the remote setting
- really enjoyed the community vibes & characters on salvation island
- loved the ‘three things about you’

My only wish was that the first half of the book got to the point sooner! :)

I loved where the book is set, remote island sounds divine to me to be fair. And trapped in the lodge with hunky Hans Solo, yes please. Great characters, loved all villagers, humour of knitting club, descriptions of the island, just everything.

An enjoyable read but somewhat predictable right from the first page I knew what the general vibe would be and what would happen. Would still recommend however.

Josie Silver’s books very quietly and calmly wrap themselves around your heart and tug at your emotions. I know this and yet I still didn’t see this one coming!

There were so many elements to this book that made it the warm inviting read that it was. Firstly, the setting – a windswept, isolated, (fictional) Island off the Irish Coast with a beautiful welcoming community of people that form a perfect set of characters.

Then, there are the two main characters, dating columnist Cleo Wilder and Photographer, Mack Sullivan. Firm favourites in the literary world now for sure. They’re flawed, irritating at times, but equally… perfect.

The storyline itself is refreshing and has unique elements that set it aside from those that have been done before. It wouldn’t have mattered if it felt familiar though, because Josie has painted a backdrop and conjured characters that make this a book you’ll read and fall in love with regardless. They could have been basket weaving for 368 pages and I’d still love this book because of Josie’s way with words. Yes, really!

I enjoyed this book very much, I found it very emotional in places, mostly because the writing of those scenes was so good. For a great deal of this story it is nothing like a romance - two people travel to a remote Irish island for very different reasons and end up having to share their accommodation due to an error. There is nowhere else for them to stay, the island is well off the tourist routes and the one room Otter Lodge is the only available lodging. Cleo works for an on-line magazine and is just about to celebrate her thirtieth birthday. She writes about relationships, and because she doesn’t have a partner she has been sent to this remote place to ‘self-couple’, and write about the process. Mack is a brilliant, well known photographer from Boston, and he has come to the island because it is where his grandmother was brought up. She is getting lost in the clouds of dementia, and he is hoping the pictures can bring back memories for her. He is also escaping from his life, his wife insisted they separate, and living apart from her and his two sons is tearing him apart. He and Cleo are both stubborn people, so neither is prepared to back down and leave, and anyway - there is only a ferry once a week, and then only when the weather permits.

They quickly work out a system - private space, public space, when they can or cannot speak to each other, etc. and their working days take them in different directions on the tiny island. They both need regular access to phone signals and WiFi, which is an issue for both of them and sees both of them walking across the island to the village on a regular basis. They eat together in the evenings and chat then, but once they have settled in their personal spaces for the night, and the light is out they start to tell each other three things about themselves, not necessarily anything major in their lives. As the days progress and they learn more about each other they get to like each other, the furious rows diminish, and a short-term relationship begins.

They both complete the tasks they went there for, but a family issue causes Mack to leave early. Cleo is distraught, and it proves to be a catalyst that helps her decide what her new life is going to be like. It seems like the end, but they had too great an impact on each other. The story ends with their next meeting, it provides hope for a future together. This is mature writing, the author doesn’t give a hearts and flowers happy ending. This couple have hurdles to cross and what will probably be a long-distance relationship for a while at least, but we have seen the depth of character in both of them to know that they will be fine! A lovely story.
