'One Night on the Island' is the romance fiction book that you don't want to miss - it is captivating and pure fabulousness. So pleased I read it!

Any book with an Irish setting will be a hit for me, as it's like going home. The picturesque island was a highlight of this for me.

I didn't love it as much as One Day in December, but still enjoyed reading about Cleo and Mack getting to know each other, However, at times their chemistry wasn't particularly on point.

This book had me crying and laughing all in one sitting.
Great story of Mack and Cleo and everything I expected from this author!

I’ll be honest, this book was never going too toop One Night in December. I didn’t have many expectations.. however it was a good, heartwarming story.

I would of given this boos 3.5 stars but I have to higher it to 4 because of the Bruce Springsteen references. I adore that man, I adore his songs.

After reading Josie Silver's previous release, I am delighted to be reviewing this recent publication 'One Night on the Island.' A heart-warming, joyous, cosy romance, offering the reader escapism and a delightful story to lose themselves in, during the Summer of '22.

Cleo decides it is time to go in search of herself on a remote island in Ireland, unknowingly booking the same one-bedroom holiday rental as Mack, thanks to some clerical errors. The sexual chemistry between these two characters is electrifying, and there are some scenes that are rather spicy, some readers may find this offensive, however, I understood why the author had written it in this manner.

I found Cheo's journey to be liberating and relatable, having experienced a solo trip for the same reasons in my past. I felt an instant connection to her. Although, despite this, the plot was a bit of a slow burner for my preferences, but is worth sticking with as it unfolds. Once in the flow of this story, I found whenever I needed to stop reading, I was able to pick it back up and jump straight back into it.

Josie Silver's descriptive writing style was spot on and I adore the ability she has to paint a story by her words. A true talent. I will certainly be reading more by this author in the future, and I highly recommend this to fans of romantic comedies.

When I first picked up this book, I was uncertain what to expect, it sounded like a very predictable romance book. When I started reading it was so much more than that. Cleo and Mack’s stories both give hidden meanings throughout the book and beautiful meanings at that. Cleo is struggling with being about to hit 30. Most young women are but Cleo’s reasons are totally different to others and it’s quite sad that such a milestone is being buried by her grief. Ali is Cleo’s boss and she mistakenly judges Cleo’s apprehensions as did I and sends Cleo off on a journey to ‘ love herself ‘. Ali has set Cleo up on a mission to marry herself in a self coupling ceremony on her 30th birthday.

But Cleo didn’t think that she’d hit a storm that threatens to scupper her plans, Mack or Hans Solo as he becomes known among the women of the island, the American who appears on the island seeking his heritage and trying to work out where his life is going. He’s still in love with his wife, Susie who no longer wants to be with him. Mack cannot accept his marriage is over so decides to give her space, so him searching for his past comes at the right time.

Mack and Cleo decide to sick it out through the storm together. Will they find what they are looking for ?

I adored this!! I know I was a long time getting to it but I’m so glad that I got there in the end! I loved the fact it was set in Ireland and I quickly fell in love with the extremely loveable characters and the loveable island they were landed on!! Well worth a read, thanks for giving me the opportunity 😊

Cleo is going to the romote Irish island to find herself and re-energise herself and her dating column back in London. Mack need some time alone. His marriage is falling apart and he has come to the island for soul searching and acknowlegdement of his routes. However, due to a mix both Mack and Cleo have booked the one bed cottage. At odds with each other at first, they slowly find that maybe they aren't as bad as they initially thought.

This book was sweet and definetly had a cosy feel despite the setting of the book. I really enjoy how Josie Silver has 2 characters and fit them together in the most realistic way for the characters in their situation. However, in places I found the chemisty between Cleo and Mack a bit flat. I'm not sure I really brought in their feelings for each other and ulitmately found myself rolling my eyes at the 'holiday romance' and 'micro-love' aspect of the book.

Overall, a sweet and enjoyable and not hugely complex read. Would recommend to any looking for that little bit of escapism.

I went into this book ready to be swept off my feet by a romance set on a small remote Irish island. What I got was a great cast of locals on a very atmospheric small remote island, one character’s journey of self discovery but an unfulfilling romance.

I read a lot of romance, and when I saw the enemies to lovers, one bed trope potential, that’s what made me pick up the book as my next read. However, I didn’t feel the chemistry between Cleo and Mack. I didn’t think Mack would travel 3000 miles and be away from his children for a month of photography when they needed him. To be honest, you could remove Mack and I think Cleo would have been at the same point at the end of the book; he was almost superfluous.

It’s quite slow paced but I read it in one day because I really enjoyed the setting of the island, a remote cabin and the lovely embracing community of locals. They were the best part of the story. The story might have benefited from adding in a cute dog because in my opinion, dogs make everything better 😉

I'm trying to read more romance but this was just meh.
I couldn't feel any spark or chemistry between the love interests, so I struggled to believe their relationship. Generally, it was readable and I enjoyed the small-town vibes of the island. As I'm relatively new to the genre, I can't compare this to other books, but I don't think I'd personally recommend this one.

It's another captivatingly sweet story with a little drama and upset, but I really enjoyed the storytelling again from Josie Silver. I really liked her other book, One Day in December, and this felt very similar to it.
I'll be honest, I had to power through as I almost put it in my dnf pile, but I'm glad I didn't. It's not my favourite rom-com, but it was delightful in the end.

'You're the microlove of my life'

I really really loved this book! But I think my biggest love after the romance, of course, is the community spirit of Salvation and how welcoming they all are to both Cleo and Mack. The women of the island and their friendship makes half of this book so wholesome and heartwarming.

This book is more than just the romance even though it made my heart all squish. The ideas of self love and self acceptance are so important. As well as deciding what you want and going and achieving it.

Cleo who is almost thirty finds herself on her way to a remote Irish island called salvation because her boss thought it would make a great story for her to go and marry herself. She is a writer for a women's magazine in London.

Mack is an American photographer who comes to salvation to discover his family heritage and take refuge from his complicated marriage but leaving his two sons at home.

They both find that they are meant to be stay in Otter lodge. A booking miscommunication leads to the most unexpected adventure. Surrounded by nature, cut off from their normal lives they begin to understand the community that lives on the island and try island life.

Love blossoms in the wild and friendship blooms.

What an amazing yet different book! This was not a fluffy love story, it was about finding and loving yourself.
Cleo is turning thirty, she is a dating columnist and her boss has insisted she go to Salvation Island on a self-coupling trip.
Mack is there to find out about his ancestors.
Disaster happens when they are double-booked in a small cottage and there aren’t any more available. The two do not hit it off while staying in the same cabin, but can things change?
I really enjoyed this because it was so different, the characters were likeable, and felt real to me. The story flowed really well and I really liked the ending, it wasn’t a typical ending that you would normally get with this genre.

I loved this story although the concept of marrying myself or “self coupling” seem kind of cringey.
The romance between Cleo and Mac was just so good. And I thought the whole finding themselves through the story was lovely and enjoyable to read about.
What I loved the most about this book was the women of the island! They completely reined over this story and just captivated me with them own individual story and the whole girl power through this story was amazing! I want to hear more about the women and how Cleo and Mac are doing. The unfinished love story between them I want more please!!

One night on the island follows Cleo and Mack. Cleo is a journalist who has been sent to Salvation island to ‘self-couple’. Mack is visiting the island to follow his ancestral roots. However, when they get there they find out they’ve accidentally been double booked into the only available cabin on the island. Initially, they struggle to get along, but will this change over time?

I fell completely in love with Salvation Island as I read this book. The atmosphere was so beautifully written I desperately wanted to hop on the nearest plane and get to that cabin! I am a fan of the enemies to lovers trope so I really enjoyed that aspect of this book. I love a romance that burns slower and takes time rather than being instant. I found myself smiling and even ended up crying at one point whilst reading this. I loved the message that a romantic relationship doesn’t indicate how worthwhile your life is. Loving yourself and loving a life that makes you happy, alongside people who love you, is all that really matters.

However, I struggled with the start of this book and nearly ended up putting it down. I am so glad I continued because I didn’t want to put this down after a while! Although I do feel the ending slowed a little again. I also really really didn’t like Cleo’s character initially. I still struggle to connect Cleo at the beginning of the book to the ‘exceptional’ lady at the end. Maybe this is meant to be part of her growth as a character, but I didn’t necessarily pick up on that if that is the case. I also struggled to wrap my head around Mack’s reason for being on the island. If my young children needed me and were having a hard time I wouldn’t fly to another continent for months to take photographs! That being said, I loved the connection between Mack and Cleo, I feel they bring out the best in each other. I also loved the supporting characters. Their kindness and quirky personalities warmed my heart. This was exactly the book I needed to read right now.

I recommend this to any romcom fans, but if you struggle to get into the book initially it does pick up! I want to thank Netgalley, Penguin General UK and Jodie Silver for allowing me to read this book and give my personal thoughts.

I really loved One Day in December and this one did not disappoint. A heartwarming and emotional romance is just want you need to curl up with over a weekend.

A loving read that was real and sweet and quite life-affirming. I liked the romance was low-key but the love was real. I liked the situations that the characters were thrown into and enjoyed reading this one completely.

I had to DNF this one. I might pick it back up again but it just wasn’t for me. I’m sad about this because I loved One Day In December so much. I don’t know, maybe I just picked it up at the wrong time.
