I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up this one, as I had read 'One Day in December' and absolutely adored it. I went in sceptical but was really surprised with how much I loved this story..

Cleo is about to turn 30 and accepts the challenge from her boss to spend time on a remote island, "self-coupling" and focusing on herself and what she wants in the future. A mix up on her arrival means that her alone time is not what she hopes for and from there we learn about community, love and the importance of being happy with yourself.

The story was not overly complex, but that was part of the joy of this read. It got through it really quickly, and even found myself welling up at certain parts (I cry a lot so maybe this says more about me, but who knows?!). An easy read that would be as lovely on holiday as it would curled up in a chair with a blanket.

A great romance set on a remote Salvation Island just off the coast of Ireland.

A soon-to-be thirty journalist, Cleo, gets sent there to celebrate her birthday in Emma Watson style by marrying herself (a.k.a. pledging self-love). Convinced that she's going to spend a month off the grid and in solitude, she instead finds a tight and loving community that welcome her with open arms. She also meets Mack, an American who is still in love with his ex-wife and who came to Salvation to spend time in the home of his ancestors.

Mack is a confused man, who is finding it hard to believe that his marriage has failed, despite still loving his wife. He arrives in Salvation looking for peace, and to discover the island his grandmother was telling him about when he was a child. A great photographer, he finds beauty not only in the island itself but also in the people who call it home.

This book contains a moving story of loving yourself, finding love in the most unexpected places, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who care. Written from Cleo and Mack's point-of-view, it offers different views on the same story. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves romance, but also somebody who is looking for a bit of respite from everyday busyness of life.

After reading one night in December I knew I just had to read this book! Josie silver sure knows how to tell a good love story. I went into this book blind and I adored it. Everyone should read this book!

Unfortunately too much of the “f” word throughout and too cliched for my taste. I did like the attempt at drawing the characters and the take a breath message. Nonetheless It’s a rom-com trying to be different but bringing the tension and sex scenes so if that’s for you it’ll be a decent read. Two stars though from me. Not enough meat in the storyline I’m afraid

A charming read that focuses on life affirming changes rather than blistering romance. Thus is a slow burning story that takes two complicated protagonists and their troubles feelings and places them in an uncomfortable situation and realistically sees them try to battle their way through the disappointments to find some sort of resolution. In the midst of the chaos they find they are more receptive to the company than first envisioned. A double booking on a remote island sees Cleo and Mark stranded together, battling not only each other, buy their own inner turmoil. The Island has a healing magic though and the community envelopes them, bringing a self love and inner solace as well as a kindling between the pair. The alternate POVs is striking as you get both perspectives. #onenightontheisland #josiesilver #netgalley

Josie Silver is such a talented storyteller! She delivered a story that gives you all the feels but that is also empowering at the same time.

I loved this book - with a connection with Atlantic islands, I absolutely pictured myself undertaking an experiment of this sort.

Characters that were endearing and a beautiful destination - this was a lovely read.

This book was a really sweet, heart tugging rom-com (more rom than com). It was a super long read but a really in-depth, really cute one.

It's an English columnist a little lost in life and an American photographer a lot lost stuck on an Irish Island away from the rest of the world. I'll note that it wasn't a single night on an island but I did find one particular night to be the turning point for this couple so the title does make sense.

This book reads slowly - that's where it missed a star but hear me out - it reads like the weather in this book. It's slow, moody and consistent. We went from all those lines on the island where we were taking our time, having a vacation to a really emotion finale and it was satisfying - this book stressed me and my heart but in the best way possible.

I particularly love how we went into the character's backstory because it certainly started as a female centric "picks up her life and heads off" story but ends with a really personal look into Mac and his thoughts and feelings. Despite the slow pace this exposition is exactly what the characters needed and Josie did a really good, thoughtful job in this regard.

I also need to note that the scenery and descriptions hit every one of my Irish Isle dreams and I was engrossed. I love a good beachside setting. It's an easy vacation read with a bite - think The Beach Read by Emily Henry.

I'll note that it's a sweeter romance but definitely more for adults/older teens as it deals with adult relationships/sex and references.

Overall this book just wasn’t for me. It’s a pleasant read by all means, but I just couldn’t relate to the characters as much as Josie’s previous works.

Too much of a slow burner for me, I prefer a little more fire and passion throughout but liked it a lot otherwise and would recommend to fans of a slow burn E2L romance. Not sure why it's called one night when it's several weeks?

Another Josie Silver and another heartwarming, easy to read and very likeable romance.
This time the story takes us away from the city or even town life, to a remote Irish island, where windswept upon arrival and disbelieving she is actually considering it, our heroine plans to 'marry'... herself.
But fear not, this isn't as crazy as you might first think, as Cleo comes to realise.
The island, although extreme weather and very patchy internet feature, is almost unbelievably perfect and the islanders are a collection of very loveable characters of all ages and personalities.
A miscommunication sets up a diverting, if a little hard to believe, scenario, where the heroine is flung together with a Han Solo lookalike and thus begins their journey.
It takes some nice turns along the way and the get together comes about halfway into the book, leaving plenty of scope for exploring the aftermath of a holiday romance. Can they ever really last?
You need to read 'One Night on the Island' to find out!

Cleo is sent by work and Mack also insists he has booked the cottage ! Both refuse to budge and a storm approaching takes all decisions out of their hands
The characters were warm , funny and likeable and the storyline drew me in

As her 30th birthday approaches, Cleo is persuaded to spend a month on Salvation Island ‘self-coupling’ so she can write about it on her dating column. Unfortunately, due to a booking mix up, her solitary experience ends up being shared with photographer Mack. Sharing a one bed lodge means the couple have to get close, but with two young boys back in America, Mack isn’t planning on being around for long.

One Night on the Island has it all - it made me laugh, cry and everything in between. The whole ‘self-couplings ceremony idea was a little too random for me, but overall a delightful story. Cleo’s gradual acceptance of the way of life on Salvation Island, and their acceptance of her was both enjoyable and believable. There are many lovely characters, who all have their own parts to play in Cleo’s awakening,

Thoroughly entertaining read.

When I started to read this I thought it was going to be a typical chick lit romance. A few pages in and I was surprisingly hooked.
Cleo goes to a remote island to marry herself. Sounds weird but as a single girl and a journalist who writes columns about looking for love she is persuaded this is a good idea by her editor. After a mix up with the booking she has to share the lodge with an American called Mack. Things gets off to a fiery start but they are thrown together and so call a truce. This develop but then so do both people. Having time and space away from frantic normal life is cathartic. Yes it is a romance but hugely enjoyable.

One Night on the Island follows Cleo, a single dating columnist from London, and Mack, a photographer and separated father of two from Boston. Both are visiting remote Salvation Island and both happen to book the island's one lone lodge for the same time period. Starting off as enemies in a divided home, it doesn't take long for the pair to break down each other's walls and fall into "micro-love."

I really like Josie Silver's writing, but One Night on the Island, unfortunately, didn't meet my expectations. I started by reading the e-book but 10% in I was quite bored, so I then switched to the audiobook. While I really liked the narrators, the story never picked up the pace. I ideally wanted more from the plot and the characters. Particularly Mack, who was so torn between his ex and Cleo that it was hard to fall in love with him.

In saying that though, I did enjoy how the book focused on Cleo finding herself and celebrating her single status. I also loved the locals and that it was told from dual points of view.

Another wonderful book from Josie Silver. A sweet romance between Cleo and Mack - yes you know what's going to happen but it's really lovely and satisfying when it does! I read it in one sitting, I only wish I'd been by a pool or beach when doing so - it's the perfect holiday read.

If you’ve read One Day in December then you’ll know how great Josie Silver’s books are and this one, her latest, is no exception.

It’s taken me longer than normal to read this but that’s not a reflection on the story at all, more my head space and I know I need to read to help and this is just one of those stories that takes you into another world that you can totally imagine. Or at least I can.

Cleo Wilder, 29, writer, is about to turn 30 and her relationship status is nowhere near marriage. Her work sets her an experiment of travelling to an island off the Irish coast to find her true self and to marry herself on her 30th birthday. When she arrives at Otter Lodge she finds it double booked and with no where else to go in this tiny island, Cleo and the other new resident have no choice but to share the accommodation. Rules written, line drawn, Cleo struggles to do what she set out to do. Be alone and write but in the process of discovering herself she also discovers what the small community and her ‘flat mate’ have to offer.

A perfect escape for anyone, the story was lovely and even though predictable, not in the way you expect from the start or the ending you anticipated!

Five stars from me on Goodreads.

This is a sweet read. It was nice to be welcomed by the residents of Salvation Island - they are all so charming. Silver has written this using alternating perspectives, leaving both Cleo and Mack to tell the story. Whilst there is an obvious romance, it is so much more - we follow Cleo on her journey of self discovery.

What an absolutely glorious read this was. Having read one of the authors books before I was really looking forward to this and I was not disappointed.

When loved jaded journalist Cleo is sent to a remote island with the idea of self-coupling she is looking forward some time alone to get used to the idea of several bad romances and turning 30. She doesn’t expect to meet Mack, recently separated American missing his small sons and visiting the island to discover his roots.

Both of them are scheduled to stay in a remote cottage and both are too stubborn to move out.

This is more than a traditional romantic comedy and the characters are warm, funny and likeable. There wasn’t the traditional ending but I was completely wrapped up in the story and those involved in it’s telling.

Highly recommend this with the caveat that there will be much laughter and many tears.
