I desperately hope we are going back to Salvation Island again in another book. I'm not quite ready to leave it yet.
It's a brilliant book. There's so many tiny details that make this book amazing but I fear by revealing them I'll ruin the book.so all I'll say is read this book, you wont regret it!

What could be better the idea of travelling to an isolated island where the boat only comes once a week when the weather is favourable and so the tale begins. We meet Cleo who writes a column about finding true love which she calls " finding your flamingo" and it si she who undertakes her boss's idea of travelling to Salvation Island off the Irish mainland to marry herself and undertake a sequence of tasks to celebrate this and her thirtieth birthday. The only "fly in the ointment" is that Mack, a separated father of two boys has also booked a stay in Otter Lodge and due to a mix up they both arrive on the same boat as well as the same cottage. How they resolve the dilema of both wanting to stay there without the other's company and the wonderful cast of local villagers they encounter sweeps the story along. Mack has left his family in Boston to resolve his year long separation from his wife and is missing his sons and still cannot reconcile why this has happened and his reason for his trip is also to see his family's roots in the island. In both characters Jodie Silver is writing about a journey of self discovery and it is a great read. Thanks for my opportunity to review a writer I had never encountered.

I'll be honest, I still have Josie's debut novel on my never ending tbr pile, but all I've heard about that was raving reviews. However I'm glad I was able to read this advance copy without any prior expectations of my own because I get it now.
It's the magical way that Josie's words describes everything, making you feel that you are right there with the characters. I felt anguish, I felt myself smiling and laughing - I felt it all.

This story is set around a woman, about to marry herself on her 30th birthday, from London and a man, in the midst of a separation in his marriage, with his whole life back in Boston. On paper it doesn't work, right?
But after a bumpy start and some crossed wires, Cleo and Mack have a brief but intense holiday romance, before the world outside of their little Island bubble inevitably intervenes. "And for a little while, he made me feel as if I'd swallowed stars."

I was left rooting for all the different outcome possibilities for the characters, for them to both find their happiness in whatever way was right for them.
What really drew me to the female and male leads were the way that they considered each other's feelings and noticed all the little things about each other.

I felt really connected to Cleo's struggle with the pressures from society about having to settle down into marriage and having children and although the idea of Cleo marrying herself had me confused at first, it was a joy to read her journey as the reasons behind it became clearer and the ceremony itself seemed very self empowering.

But despite all my love for the characters' micro-love, what really had me unable to put the book down, was the residents of the Island. Their warmth and the whole community feel was so lovely and comforting. Their generosity and humour and the way that they welcomed the newcomers into their lives was such a pleasure to read, and I definitely feel that I'll be checking in on old friends when I re-read this all over again.

The location in question is Salvation Island staying in Otter Lodge the only problem is an American, named Mack, believes that it’s his accommodation and with no where else for either of them to go what do they do?
The glorious setting with not much around other than a hill the sound of the sea, beautiful sunrises, sunsets and deserted beaches, what more could you ask for!
I fell in love with all the characters in the story, from the shop owners, pub landlord and the main two Cleo & Mack, I walked their journey with them, the highs the lows and the excitement.
Another suberb book, I have read all of Josie Silver’s books and each one sucks you in & chews you up to get lost in their world.

It’s undeniable that Silver has a respectable and carefully crafted talent in creating characters that are unique, inspiring and uplifting. This is my second book I’ve read of hers and it is equally enjoyable as the last. The romantic trope of enemies to lovers was addictive and kept my interest from start to finish.

The community described filled my heart with joy. I also particularly liked how the focal point was on personal development and growth, rather than using a romantic partner to patch over existing wounds. A fantastic read that was very much enjoyed.

A gem of a novel! The perfect book to read when you need some joyful escapism. The main protagonists are Cleo and Mack. They both have reached crossroads in their lives - Cleo is approaching her 30th birthday and is still single, Mack is coming to terms with the breakdown of his marriage and no longer living with his two young sons. Josie Silver sets the scene of the island so beautifully, which provides the perfect backdrop for the romance which ensues between Cleo and Mack.

I nicely written and enjoyable book. I wanted to carry on reading and will be looking for more by this author. Well done!

Josie Silver does it again - I adored this tale of self discovery, moving on and finding new adventures, and new loves, along the way. With an excellent cast of eccentric and totally loveable characters (Delores might just be my favourite), our heroine finds herself a million miles away from London and in the heart of a small island community, joining a knitting circle and sharing a lodge with an unexpected American - our hero. One Night on the Island is an emotive and beautifully written book, one not to be missed - just make sure you've got tissues.

Firstly, much thanks to the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this story. I love this style of this writer and have enjoyed another of her books but this one moved too slowly for me. I grew bored and after many attempts gave up at the 40% mark.

The story has potential. Cute, spunky girl, hot broody guy stuck on a stormy island together, forced (due to highly unusual circumstances) to share a bungalow together. I love the way this writer writes - beautifully descriptive and atmospheric - and her characters were authentic, with unusual backstories. But the plot itself, while original, felt unexciting, with very little occurring in the first half of the book.

Sometimes you just need a book that will completely absorb you into it's world. Thank you, Josie Silver, I was compelled to read 'just one more chapter' .

Cleo writes a blog for a women's magazine called 'finding your flamingo' . For her thirtieth birthday, her mission is to stay on Salvation Island and 'marry' herself. However when she arrives, it seems like Otter Lodge has also been reserved by Mack, a photographer from Boston. Since the boat only arrives once a week, they are stuck with each other.

I loved the island life the author creates for us with the close knit community. It is predictable, but isn't that what we want from this genre- a magical love story which we hope will have a happy for now or happy ever after ending.

This book had everything- humour, well written sensual scenes and vivid descriptions of setting. There was some really beautiful writing throughout and unique and effective analogies.

My goodness I loved this book so much that after finishing my e-ARC I immediately pre-ordered it for my sister. What a wonderful story of love, self-discovery and the beauty of accepting yourself where you are and how you are. I loved the idea of marrying yourself, not in a fancy ceremony but in a quiet commitment to showing up for yourself daily in the important ways. The writing is beautiful, the way the setting and scenery are described made the island come alive for me. And the cast of characters were fantastic, no clichés, just warm and solid and brave and funny. Finally, the romance was perfect, I'm a big fan of enemy to lovers and there's only one bed tropes and this book handles both brilliantly, with sparky wit and gentle vulnerability, I fell in love along with the characters.

One Night on the Island introduces us to Cleo and Mack. Cleo, a dating columnist who wants to spend her thirtieth birthday on the island self coupling after countless dates that haven’t worked out and Mack, who is recently separated from his wife and needs this time to find himself again while enjoying the island where his grandparents told him endless stories about growing up - however what neither of them were expecting is, a double booking and no where for either of them to go. As the days turn into weeks, they no longer seem to mind each others company and find themselves exactly where they weren’t expecting…

I honestly loved this book! ❤️ it’s the perfect mix of self acceptance and finding the perfect love, however temporary that love might be. The chapters alternate between Cleo and Mack and I just loved reading each of their thoughts and watching them slowly warm to each other - as well as the islanders, who really took them both in as their own. Honestly, this is the loveliest heartfelt story - it’s funny, charming and full of such warm cosy vibes.

Where can one find themselves, an island like this and a guy like Mack? Asking for a friend ;)

Lovely book

Cleo has made a living from being single and hitting the dating scene. Her editor has a great idea, why not go to a remote island and marry yourself a la Emma Watson. Mack is a family man on a journey to find his heritage on a remote island from his family history. Only nothing turns out as they both planned.
I absolutely adored Cleo and Mack was equal parts loveable and frustrating but the islanders really caught my heart.
Josie Silver has struck gold here. There’s no cookie cutter love story here. The backbone of this novel is all about loving yourself and the vulnerability of accepting you for you. Cleo spoke to me in so many ways. I resonated with her. I felt the need for her to love herself. For the need for us all to love ourselves wholly and truly.
I admit, I had the fear, I had the fear that this book would jump the shark and be a typical HEA. I don’t know why I ever doubted Josie. Whilst I would’ve wanted different things For these characters I’ve come to fall in love with I know it was all done for the right reasons.
I don’t hand this out lightly but 5* to One Night On The Island.

This novel is a great addition to Josie Silver's list, giving the reader her quirky little bits and some witty dialogue along with moving characters experiencing pain and personal challenges wrapped up in romance. After writing articles on her hapless dating experience searching for the One, it seems inevitable that on the eve of her thirtieth birthday her boss would ask her to travel to a remote island off the Irish coast to perform a 'self coupling' and write about it. When she arrives at the hired cottage for her 'alone time' she finds due to a booking confusion, that it is inhabited by Mack, a grumpy American working on his own personal project. What starts out as an 'enemies to lovers' trope develops into a deeper exploration of self acceptance and understanding how relationships change over time.

I need this Island! I'm sure many others do too but I'm first in the queue, please. Cleo is a magazine writer who writes about finding love under the title 'Finding my Flamingo' Her boss wants her to stay on Salvation Island & have a 'self coupling' ceremony on her 30th birthday. Write about her time on the island & share everything. I did think what a riiculous thing to do but I was so wrong! Find out about Cleo's voyage of discovery & her life on the island. What wonderful characters who I want to be my friends. Right, off to pack my bags. Enjoy this great book.

Having read previous books by this author this one certainly didn’t disappoint and was a fabulous romantic read and was perfect escapism. This was a story of love and friendship and how love can be found when you are not looking for it and least expect it. This book gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside and I couldn’t put it down once I had started reading it. This was a lovely festive and heartwarming read with a side order of friendship and community and how anything is possible if everyone pulls together and helps each other.

Cleo is off to a remote island to ‘marry’ herself, a voyage of self discovery as she escapes the rat race of the city, she meets Mack on the boat across and they butt heads from the off… the story focuses on these two main characters and the journey they both undertake on Salvation Island.

The camaraderie between the locals and the way they welcome Cleo & Mack into their community is heartwarming, I could visualise every single one of them.

I really enjoyed this book and it definitely struck a chord with me around how a simple life could well be a better life!!
