I really enjoyed the concept of this; two people struggling for different reasons, are forced to live together in a remote location, we can all guess what happens next! Stripping this book back, I thoroughly enjoyed the concept, the location and the characters but somewhere along the way it loses its way. I think this is too long and the enjoyment of the plot gets lost amongst the unnecessary extras. At its heart, this has love, loss and life running through it but I really found this a struggle to finish. This is such a shame as I did honestly enjoy the read, I just think it is too long and it loses some spark.

I have mentioned the location already but Salvation Island is such a stunning location for this book. It is a beautiful place, yet with the remoteness comes a sense of loneliness. The islanders are a unique, likeable set and I liked that Silver gives them their own plot threads, although this is where some of the unnecessary extras come in. Cleo and Mack make this read, they are two special characters and I adored getting to know them, reading about them through their own eyes and discovering their story.

The plot is obvious but I honestly did not care as I was rooting for it to play out that way the whole way through reading this. Despite being obvious, I do think Silver has managed to avoid a cliche ending which I was surprised and delighted by.

'One Night on the Island' is a highly enjoyable read that sadly gets a bit bogged down in length. I still really enjoyed reading this.

Really loved this story. It invited you in straight away between the cover, although that can be confused with the first book of the author, the characters and the story. Would definitely buy when it comes out in bookstores for me and all my friends

A wonderful read, like the island peaceful with a little tension. The book tells of a journalist who needs a break and comes up with a slightly wild idea that involves going to an island off the West Coast of Ireland where she finds that her seclusion is interrupted by a fellow traveller from across the Atlantic.. I really enjoyed reading this book as it was fluid and graceful and I found myself wanting to read more when I really should have stopped.

I have enjoyed ‘The Two Lives of Lydia Bird’ by Josie Silver previously, so I was excited to read her upcoming book. ‘One Night on the Island’ is a very different from ‘The Two Lives of Lydia Bird’ and way lighter in tone book but it still touches on some heavier topics.

I didn’t love the initial chapters of ‘One Night on the Island’ finding Cleo quite an annoying narrator, however both the story and Cleo as the main character improved for me in the latter part of the book, and I ended up enjoying ‘One Night on the Island’ far more than initially expected. I really liked the setting – Salvation island – and the atmosphere created by the amazing community of people there. That felt lovely, and the landscape must have been absolutely gorgeous (I can imagine!).

Can this trip, what began as a disastrous double-booking, turn into something more? And might this one night on the island change both of their lives forever?

I laughed and cried alongside Cleo. She's all over the place, has a heart of gold. It felt like reading my own story, but in a different location, of my story about 7 years ago. The story was messy (in a good way), believable and like a warm hug on a cold & rainy day.

A truly magical love story, as much about learning to live yourself as falling in love. I loved every second of it, and I'm sad it had to end.

This book read my mind! Stuck on a remote island to write. A Cliffside cabin, a view to die for, fire crackling, warm locals and then a cute guy walks in and romance ensues, eventually... This book makes me want to travel to Scotland immediately to go find this place and these people.

This book was sugary sweet and an enjoyable read. Josie did a fantastic job with the writing in this book. It was the perfect balance of romance with just a little smiging of angst as well. Definitely recommend this book!!

I found this book enchanting, the characters were warm, the setting idyllic if you like quiet time. The storyline moved at a good pace, I enjoyed the development of Mack and Cleo's friendship.

Mack has issues to work through, Cleo not so much she just needs to find herself. There were funny moments, moving moments and heartwarming moments.

All in all I really enjoyed this book.

Josie Silver has a way with words and she makes me want an epic love like she writes about. She's done it again with this absolutely cracking read! TOTALLY ADORED IT and can't stop thinking about it! I was looking forward to reading this new Josie Silver book as I was so impressed with her work - ‘One day in December’. That book had absolutely everything I was looking for in a Romantic fiction.
I must say that ‘One night on the Island’ however, did not get me as hooked from the first chapter as I was hoping for. No matter, I gave it the best shot and continued reading about 1/4 of the book and still I must admit that in the characters just don’t seem to grab me as much and I have little connection with them. The female protagonist irritates me quite a bit but then again perhaps that’s the whole point. The male protagonist just seems a little dry to me and I have read a better character with a similar arc so this was a little underwhelming.
Personally I was hoping for a very moody and atmospheric writing since the story is set in this bucolic Irish island,, yet I felt as I read on there’s something lacking, it is not bad press but it doesn’t quite reach the point of getting me super involved engaged.
I would have to put this book to rest for a the time being perhaps I would need to be in the right state of mind to re-read it. I can’t exactly give a fair rating for this book as of yet since I have to shelf it for now but I’ll be sure to update the review once I’ve reread it again.

This is the second Josie Silver book I’ve read and it didn’t disappoint!! Once I had started it I couldn’t put it down!

Not only did I fall in love with Cleo & Mack and their love story but also with the Island and Islanders!!

It made me laugh and cry….and want to get on board a ferry to a remote island to find myself too.

I would highly recommend this brilliant book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written, with beautiful use of language. The plot keeps you guessing, right until the end, but it is not a book to be hurried, rather to be savoured. It fully captures the depth and complexity of relationships, of love, loyalty and friendship. There is pain too, which makes the joyous moments more wondrous. I personally didn’t appreciate the one woman wedding. It was the only part of the book that made me cringe and want to skip pages. But that’s just me; other readers may find that it’s fundamental truths and messages resonate deeply. It is a compassionate and feel good read. Enjoy it.

There were many things I did not enjoy about this book. The laboured metaphors, the incessant use of the word 'damn', the fact that the love interest did not really deserve his own narration (his chapters added nothing). I don't know, it's probably my own fault for reading a book where a character goes off-grid to a small island. I'm a city person; I fundamentally do not understand when characters want small communities and solitude and calmness. (Also, tbh, I resent the implication in books like these that you can't have all that in cities.) And so often these kind of narratives are replete with clichés. But I thought I would give it a go after being pleasantly surprised by Josie Silver's second novel. I probably won't read another one. I found it pretty generic and while the premise really reminded me of Beach Read, this unfortunately had none of Beach Read's charm.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Within the first couple of pages I was laughing my head off and totally gripped. The character of Cleo is so beautifully written. I was rooting for her from the get go. Salvation is described in exquisite detail - it made me want to get on a wonky ferry and head west to the isles scattered off the coast of Ireland. The relationship between Cleo & Mack was thrilling to read and the characters both on Slanú and in London & USA were all believable and so well written. Absolutely gorgeous book, I loved it!!!

Another great read from Josie Silver. This book follows Cleo, a disillusioned writer who goes to an island to self-couple but things don't quite go to plan when the lodge she's rented is occupied by Mack, and American with baggage of his own. I was pleasantly surprised by the way this story developed, and as always the way Silver writes always makes her novels an addictive and easy read. Highly recommend!

This book is funny and utterly charming!

You cannot help but fall in love with Cleo and Mack, who rub off one another in the wrong way when they first arrive on this island and both insist that the cottage is theirs for the stay. Having no other place to stay on this remote island, they are both trapped with one another in this cottage with only one bed

There is banter, incredible chemistry and self development as the characters navigate their living situation and their own indivual problems they are trying to overcome and get over

I wasn't entirely satisfied with the ending but it's something I can look past because of how incredible the rest of this book was.

Somehow the magic of this story has genuinely made me want to pack up and go to a windswept, isolated island. What an absolute beaut of a novel. Cleo is an utterly inspirational character and seeing her learn to love herself, and become part of the community was lovely to read. Her micro romance with Mack was steamy but also beautiful and I loved that the ending wasn’t as predictable as one might expect. Such a brilliant book, would absolutely recommend!

This book was one of my easiest five stars of the year, I thoroughly enjoyed every single page and felt so deeply for all of the characters that finishing the book left me somewhat bereft. I love the close proximity trope and this was exactly that, Cleo and Mack were a little grumpy/sunshine too which I also love. Cleo lives in London and Mack in Boston and they get double booked into a cabin on the island of Salvation, Cleo there for self love and Mack because of familial ties. Their relationship starts rocky, very rocky almost on the verge of pure hatred and I just love that in a sense. Throughout this entire book I found myself wanting to go and find myself on the island of Salvation and that was part of what made me love this book so much, I fell in love with the setting and the characters. A sweet, undemanding book, and a very enjoyable read with appealing characters, and a heart-warming story. Definitely a book I would recommend for a winter's evening!
