When Chloe Davis was twelve, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, Chloe’s father had been arrested as a serial killer and promptly put in prison. Chloe and the rest of her family were left to grapple with the truth and try to move forward while dealing with the aftermath.

Now 20 years later, Chloe is a psychologist in private practice in Baton Rouge and getting ready for her wedding. She finally has a fragile grasp on the happiness she’s worked so hard to get. Sometimes, though, she feels as out of control of her own life as the troubled teens who are her patients. And then a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, and that terrifying summer comes crashing back. Is she paranoid, and seeing parallels that aren't really there, or for the second time in her life, is she about to unmask a killer?

In a debut novel that has already been optioned for a limited series by actress Emma Stone and sold to a dozen countries around the world, Stacy Willingham has created an unforgettable character in a spellbinding thriller that will appeal equally to fans of Gillian Flynn and Karin Slaughter

A bit of a slow burner, but once I got in to it I found I just kept wanting more.
Great characterisations helping you feel for certain individuals and despise on the flip. The twists and turns which kept you guessing right up until the end. Thank you Netgalley for my ARC copy. #Netgalley #StacyWillingham

I enjoyed the twists and turns with this book. Getting more and more clues, I did feel I discovered the ending before we got there but still really enjoyed it.

As a summary Chloe is a psychologist and has a fiance. What we discover is that her father was a serial killer, her mother tried to kill herself and her brother is very protective of her. She was just 12 when her father was arrested and twenty years on there are more girls disappearing with similar patterns, and there seems a connection to her. As she is drawn into the investigations she starts to unravel the truth but the truth is not what it seems!

Imagine finding out your Father is a serial killer and your only twelve years old.
Her memory of her Father with a shovel.
All those young girls going missing only to find out it’s……you’re Dads fault!

Bodies …were they found?

Then move on to her becoming an adult.
On the anniversary of the past, women go missing.
What!

It can’t be her Father so who is it?

There were a couple of suspects I had in mind and the reveal, well, that wasn’t what I was thinking until the very end when the Penny dropped.

A good suspense biting your nails kind of read.
A few gasps. And plenty of staying up late reading with this book!

I wasn’t sure when I started this book but ended up really enjoying it.
Chloe is a Psychologist with a fiancé and difficult family relationships. The main one being that her father is a convicted serial killer. Then a girl goes missing with connections to Chloe and the abduction matches her fathers crimes.
Chloe finds herself drawn into the investigation. As the case continues Chloe finds herself struggling with her past and her own mental health.
Great cast of characters and clues to follow.

Chloe is a psychologist with her own practice, a fiance and a nice house. On the surface all is going well. However, Chloe has a troubled past which is coming back to haunt her. She is hanging on by her fingertips.
This is a book that started well. The characters of Chloe, her fiance, her brother & their friends are set out and well created. We start to learn about the background to Chloe's life as it comes to the anniversary of her Father's arrest for murdering young girls when Chloe was only a child. As a girl goes missing the story starts to build in a very satisfying manner.
However it is at this point that I felt the story started to go off course. Chloe becomes very wild & starts to accuse a variety of people of being the murderer. She seems to lurch from one accusation to another without giving full thought to what she is saying. It all gets rather unlikely. I know Chloe is quite unstable but the bouncing off red herring after red herring got quite wearing. I had worked out quite early on who was the murderer but it became more obvious as Chloe ran out of people to accuse! It was obvious that the one person she hadn't accused must be the murderer.
I felt that this rather undid the excellent ground work that had made up the early part of the book. The story as a whole was okay but could have been a lot better.

Chloe Davis is a psychologist and lives with her fiance. She is trying to plan her wedding but she can't put her past behind her. She is a highly strung narrator who i sometimes found hard to believe. Lots of twists in this story which made me keep changing my mind on who was guilty. I did feel sorry for Chloe at the end of the book. A good read.

Although the ending was a little predictable, it was still a good story that I thoroughly enjoyed reading

Nothing special about this slow and predictable thriller. Not bad but lacked any real energy or page turning qualities, and repeated trope after trope from films and books about men killing women and parents protecting children.

I thought that this was a really great read and it kept me guessing right until the end. Although saying that I did predict the end but i was second guessing myself right up to the reveal.

When Chloe Davis was twelve girls from her small town start to go missing; as the fear heightens that more girls may be taken she fins a jewellery box in her parents bedroom with jewellery that has been taken from the dead girls. Her Father is convicted of the crime and sentenced to life in prison but as the 20 year anniversary of the horrific murders approaches another girl is taken is history repeating itself with a copycat or is the truth hidden in the past?

This was a compelling and gripping crime thriller with many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The historic story line of Chloe's past and the psychological damage that she had in the present ay with her self destructive addictions at times made me doubt her at times in what she was seeing/believing so this did add to the tense atmosphere.

This book is just so tense! Thanks to NetGalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

The story focuses on Chloe Davis, the daughter of a man convicted for the abduction and killing of teenage girls in their small town in Louisiana. Twenty years have passed since the murders and Chloe has built a life as a psychologist dealing in trauma in Baton Rouge. Armed with her first-hand experience of traumatic events (and a slight prescription-drug dependency), she is trying to move on with her life and plan her wedding. When teenage girls start to go missing, it seems that Chloe's past may be catching up with her...

I found Chloe an intriguing - if slightly infuriating - narrator, which is (I think) just as the writer intended. In many ways, she is the product of her experiences but her drug-dependence and age at the time of the original murders (she was 12) gives her an unreliable edge. This is a book in which memory is important, but also cannot be relied upon in the present day. Chloe also makes unpredictable and impulsive decisions - again, an understandable part of the character given her past.

The Louisiana setting for this book was an appealing one. This is somewhere with murky forested areas and danger lurking in the waters. Somewhere the heat is oppressive and predatory alligators watch from the sidelines - although they prove to be a whole lot less dangerous than the predatory men.

This is a dark book - one about the abduction of teenagers, abuse, brutal murders and not being able to trust the people closest to you. In many ways, it is a tough read but it is also compelling - the secrets are many and their discovery opens the plot out way beyond its initial promise. There are also some really terrifying and chilling moments as Chloe discovers things too late and finds herself in danger - I had my heart in my mouth for most of the second half of the book!

I'd recommend this to anyone who likes their crime fiction with a dark heart and chilling twists. There is never a dull moment in Chloe's story and so much of it was genuinely surprising. I'd definitely look for more books by this writer.

This was a great read. I really enjoyed it. The story slowly unfolds and there are plenty of red herrings but most send you in the wrong direction! I’ll definitely read more by Stacy Willingham.

This will make an excellent film! Slow at the beginning but cranks up the tension to a fingernail biting conclusion. Chloe is a psychologist and lives under the shadow of her father being a serial child killer. Just as she is happily planning her wedding one of her clients is killed in what could be a copycat murder. And that's just the start of it. Throw in a journalist and the police and we are not sure who to trust or who to suspect.

Chloe’s father was imprisoned 20 years ago for a series of murders of young women. Now settled in a different town with an a established psychology practice and a stable relationship the past seems to be repeating itself. Two young women are murdered and she is convinced that there is a copy cat murderer on the loose. The police aren’t convinced so Chloe sets about investigating for herself.
I guessed from the very beginning what the outcome would be but nonetheless still enjoyed reading.

Chloe Davis’ father is a serial killer and was convicted and jailed when she was just twelve years old but the bodies of the girls were never found. The case became notorious and Chloe’s family was torn apart.

Now Chloe has rebuilt her life, becoming a respected psychologist in Baton Rouge with a loving fiancé and a doting brother.

With the 20th anniversary of her father’s crimes round the corner, a girl she knows goes missing. Has the nightmare has started again…

I really enjoyed this book - I found it went along a little slowly for the first few chapters but the rest really picked up pace. I thought I knew where it was heading but it became twisty and totally unpredictable, and I kept changing my mind as to who was doing it!

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
