Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). I loved this book, which is the fourth book in this action thriller series.

The book is about Atlee Pine, who is an FBI agent who is searching for her twin sister Mercy. Mercy was abducted at 6 years old, and Atlee has been looking for her ever since. Atlee finally finds what she is looking for, but she has to go through a lot to get to that point.

The story is fast paced, dramatic and full of action, with a lot of twists and turns. With interesting characters and a great plot, this book will thrill anyone who loves gripping crime books and a great story. Highly recommended!

What I read was well-written, but I didn't realise when I opened the book that this was part of a series and that it didn't stand alone. Intrigued enough to search for the other books, and I will be revisiting this when I have more of an idea what's going on.

What a spine-chilling read.
I read this book so quick it was just a page turner. When i did have to put it down i would pick it back up and just read until i had finished it.
After a long time to find out what happened can be a closing chapter but for Atlee it just a rises more questions and why did it happen?

Another fast paced and gripping book in this excellent series. It kept me turning pages as it's a well written page turner.
Excellent storytelling and plot development.

FBI Special Agent Altee Pine’s thirty year search for her twin sister Mercy culminates in David Baldacci’s ‘Mercy’. Unfortunately while I’m relieved this storyline isn’t dragged out over further books, I found it slow going as the story switches between both sisters. While it’s good to see how the sisters lives have been in parallel with so many similarities, it’s hard going as the story unravels as to what happened to Mercy in the intervening years. And it is brutal. If you’ve read the first two this will still be well worth the read to complete Mercy’s story,

There are some great characters in this story especially Atlee's 60 something assistant Carol Blum. Carol may not be an agent but she hasn't spent her whole working life in the FBI and learned nothing. I love the way she uses subtlety and empathy, skills she gained while raising 6 children and dealing with arrogant bureaucrats, to break down barriers and connect with both victims and villains.

Having been a big fan of David Baldacci for years, getting the chance to read a copy of his latest in the Atlee Pine series was always going to be enjoyable.

This is the fourth book in the series, but if you are coming to this with no knowledge of the previous books this is not a problem as they are condensed into the beginning of the story to get you up to speed.

Following on from the last book where the main character Atlee Pine is still on a personal sabbatical to try and resolve the issues she had with her sister being taken when they were both young, and trying to determine what happened to her sister Mercy.

The story rolls with pace and has the little sub plots that cause some additional tension into the story, as they head to the explosive conclusion at the end of the book.

To put it simply, if you are a fan of the author, he does what he does best and draws you in with the story, and you get taken along for the ride. A great thriller, that has enough twists, turns and action to keep any fan of the genre entertained.

Brilliant storyline with outstanding characters.

Atlee Pine an FBI agent based in Arizona has taken some personal time away from her normal duties to try to finally establish what happened to her twin sister, Mercy who was abducted from their bedroom when they were six. Joining her in her fight for the truth is her Administrative Assistant, Carol Blum. Altee’s hunt for the truth will take her and Carol into situations that are life-threatening, especially a group who will stop at nothing from the truth about her sister coming out.

David Baldacci is one of my favourite authors. I sadly missed the two previous books in this series. However, thanks to his brilliant writing, I’d not missed out. The storyline flows smoothly, and the characters are so brilliantly described, giving me an instant connection to them. This is an unusual novel, leaving me to wonder what it must be like to find a sibling after them being missing for thirty years. Could you ever find forgiveness against the perpetrators? How do you move on with your life under new circumstances?

This is the fourth book in the Atlee Pine series and it’s the best one so far ! The books in the series have got better and better as the characters storylines develop.

Mercy makes for an entertaining read for the most part but it’s good the author decided not to draw out the story any longer. On the other hand it’s a bit slow for my taste with all those flash backs and the main characters constantly going over the story we read in the first three books. I loved the way the tension was built up in the first three books but sadly I’m missing that tension in this final part of the story.
I do hope we will read more about Atlee Pine and Carol Blum, once they have returned to their own little FBI office. They make a wonderful pair of detectives – although Carol is strictly seen only an assistant. Now the story about Atlee and her missing sister Mercy has come to an end, Atlee and Carol can safely return – and who knows, maybe they will make an interesting trio in solving FBI-matters together.

From the first book, ‘Long Road to Mercy’, there has been an ongoing subplot about Atlee Pine’s journey to find her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted when the girls were just six years old. It was a devastating incident that destroyed her family and left Atlee physically and mentally scarred.

At the end of Book 3, ‘Daylight’, there was a big breakthrough in the case and in ‘Mercy’ this is continued and takes centre stage for Atlee and her assistant, Carol Blum. For readers new to the series Baldacci always provides background.

I won’t say more about the plot in order to avoid spoilers but it was very gripping and kept me riveted from start to finish.

I so enjoy David Baldacci’s writing and he again has excelled in writing a top notch thriller. He is one of my favourite authors in the genre of crime/political thrillers.

Highly recommended novel and series.

Mercy by David Baldacci is the latest in the fantastic Atlee Pine series where she sets out to find her missing twin sister. It is a powerful action thriller.

Having discovered so much about her family in previous books, FBI agent Atlee Pine with colleague Carol Blum sets out to find the sister she was separated from when she was only 6 years old. Unsurprisingly she comes across a few unpleasant individuals and is required to use all of her skills to track down her sister.

Mercy is a full-blooded pact thriller that strikes a good balance between character development and action.

Not having read any of the previous books, I was a bit overwhelmed with the back story dump at the start of the book. But once the story got going I got into it and enjoyed the story.

FBI Agent Atlee Pine’s twin sister Mercy was kidnapped at age six. Atlee has been looking for Mercy for years across the four books in this series. In this book, she finds her and also learns the disturbing truth about their biological parents.

If you have read any of the other books in this series, don’t miss this exciting conclusion. To readers new to the series, there is a chapter or two in the beginning to get you up to speed.

Speaking of speed, Mercy is a high-octane fast-paced read. The action barely slows down. However, the secondary plot to kill Mercy seemed to be added just to fill pages. It was action-packed but seem to detract from the series’ goal. For that reason, 4 stars!

Engrossing conclusion to Mercys story,although I hope not the end of Mercy and her sidekick. Not always an easy read but always an exciting,excellent read.

And so we come to the end of the Atlee and Mercy Pine saga – at least for the moment. Reflecting on this series, which I have enjoyed immensely, I realise that it is the women – four of them, who have been pretty much front and centre of this series.

Initially driven by FBI Agent Atlee Pine and her assistant, Carol Blum, the final book expands into telling the story of Ellie Cain, although another woman also takes on a prominent role. That’s pretty excellent as I love reading about hard-core women who can be both protagonist and antagonist.

Mercy is the book where FBI Agent Atlee Pine finally gets enough intelligence to track down her twin sister Mercy, abducted when they were six. In this thrilling and entertaining read, we understand how much damage has been done to these twin sisters – so much so that the real question has to be if there is any way back for Mercy?

The bad guy this time is rather different and I liked that. A man who has learned to clothe himself in a veneer of wealth and sophistication; making his abhorrent behaviour all more surprising and repellent.

Baldacci has given us a fast paced and exciting all-action thriller. It’s often brutal and deals with psychological as well as physical damage. Some scars never heal. Parts were predictable and I felt there was a rush to conclusion which did not serve the book as well as it might, but I loved the interplay between all of the women and especially the way that Carol Blum, older, not usually in the field, manages to play a pivotal role and go on the road with Attlee while she is on leave, on a mission that risks life and limb, all the while still referring to her as Agent Pine and never by her first name!

There’s a lot of serious action, described in excellent detail with guns blazing and much damage inflicted and an ending that shows you that believing in fairy tales is probably still OK.

Verdict: I have enjoyed this series and I can see that there may yet be more potential, but for the time being I’m pretty content to leave things as they are.

I didn't realise going in that this is the 4th and final book of a series, I didn't have a clue what was going on so will read it some other time after reading the other three.
