A very fitting ending with lots of ups and downs and full of action from beginning to end. It’s impressive that Mercy hasn’t got insane over everything she had to endure. Great series!

Yikes, that was pretty full on. Mercy is the 4th book in the Atlee Pine series by David Baldacci. The whole series is pretty much about Pine looking for her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted about 30 years ago when they were both 6 years old. Atlee herself was left for dead and had a serious head injury. Now Pine and her redoubtable admin assistant, the 60 something Carol Blum, are on a sabbatical from the FBI and are following every little clue to find Mercy

In this book Pine has come closer than ever before to finding her sister and she learns who her biological father is. The first part of the book focuses, for the first time, on Mercy herself. We learn how she escaped captivity, how abused she was, how she struggled in the early years of her ‘freedom’ with further abuse and addictions and how, finally, she has made a life for herself, albeit not an easy one. She is very tall and phenomenally strong and earns some of her income by cage fighting in which she is a formidable opponent.

Pine has managed to track down Desiree Atkins, the wife in the couple with whom Mercy was forced to live for many years and who was her main abuser. Another step closer and the two sisters are getting closer to actually meeting. Mercy is now calling herself El (Eloise) Cain. One day she makes a serious mistake. She beats up a man who was beating up his girlfriend. After he pulled a knife and then a gun on her she has no qualms about thrashing him in self defence but she did make sure to leave him alive. Unfortunately the man later died in hospital and his brother is a very wealthy and influential man - now seriously bent on revenge.

The rest of the story is about how that plays out. I was almost too scared to read on at this point as I thought it would be brutal. And I was not wrong. Baldacci certainly knows how to write suspense and action scenes. There was a lot of fighting but when I saw what the man chasing Mercy was planning for his revenge, I quailed. Yep I’m a scaredy-cat! But I also had to find out how it would end. Of course!

Baldacci’s characters are often either good guys or bad guys but Mercy was, certainly because of the harsh life she’d lived, very much in the grey zone. Carol Blum is a delight as she is almost motherly but also very smart, intuitive and efficient. People underestimate her at their peril. This was very much an action book and it was fast paced throughout. If you want to catch your breath you have to stop reading. Without giving away the ending I DO think this will be the last book in the series, although I would be happy to read more about Pine and her wonderful ‘minder’, Blum. Many thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
This is the fourth and final book in this series, but PLEASE Mr. Baldacci let it not be the last book to feature ballsy brave brilliant Atlee Pine and her indomitable assistant Carol Blum. This book can be read as a standalone story, especially as in the first few pages the Author gives a potted breakdown of the search for Mercy in the previous books. However in each book our heroines find themselves embroiled in another mystery, so it's well worth starting with book one. This book is no exception with plenty of action and excitement along the way. As always well written engaging and gripping from start to finish, fast paced and tense with brilliant characters throughout. Ok there is the odd hard to believe coincidence, but just let that go over your head and enjoy, and a cheesy ending that still brought a tear to the eyes of this sixty four year old grumpy Yorkshireman.
Brilliant series read them all.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this fantastic book

high octane and loads of action, just what you want to read on those long dark nights...

oh my word where to start with this one...

atlee and mercy are twin sisters but fate was against them and they were separated violently at a young age...this is their story

buckby is a self made man, who get what he wants when he wants, hes also very loyal to his family.. his brother is badly beaten up and dies.

the beating was justified but in buckbys eyes this death needs to be avenged...an eye for an eye and all that...and so begins a violent and destructive path that is set in motion and the outcome isnt certain....

oh my word this is an amazing story and brought tears to my eyes at the ending.... have loved this series

This is the 4th Atlee Pine novel. FBI agent Atlee Pine has been searching for her twin sister who was abducted when they were 6 years old and when Atlee was left for dead. Finally after many twists and turns Atlee has evidence that her sister had lived, albeit imprisoned and sadistically tortured. Now she is trying to find Mercy with the help of her father and his enormous wealth and the support of Carol Blum her assistant and friend. Nothing is straight forward and the people involved in Mercy’s imprisonment are still keeping secrets, telling lies and hiding key truths that will help Atlee trace her. However, unknown to Atlee, she is not the only person looking for Mercy. Whoever finds her first could make all the difference.
This is another fast paced, emotional roller coaster of a read. Once again David Baldacci has you sitting on the edge of your seats, holding your breath at every page you turn. Despite this being the culmination of Atlee’s journey to find her sister, I don’t doubt there’s more to come from FBI Agent Atlee Pine and I for one look forward to hearing just what happens next.

Wow! You are never ever disappointed by a David Baldacci book, ever! Always well written always well researched and always but always gripping from first page to last. A story of one stolen child tortured beyond belief and the sister trying to find her, mix in a child from a cult maniac and it all leads to a enthralling finale.
Read this book and wonder at the storytelling of Baldacci

David Baldacci neatly ties up all the threads in this series where FBI agent Atlee Pine, based in Arizona, has been desperately searching for her twin sister, Mercy, abducted at 6 years old from their bedroom. The main points are summarised at the beginning, a great reminder of the twists and turns that have occurred, including the discovery that Atlee's father is not Tim, but actually Jack Lineberry, and that Mercy had been imprisoned, exploited, tortured and abused by her 'adoptive' parents, Joe and Desiree Atkins, and had possibly escaped. Atlee is once again aided by her FBI administrative assistant, Carol Blum, a woman who has become like a mother to her, as she tries to follow all leads to learn if Mercy survived. She reluctantly accepts the substantial resources, financial and otherwise, offered by Lineberry in the quest to locate Mercy.

For the first time, the author gives Mercy's perspective, and through this we learn what happened to her once she was free, a naive young woman who had never been to school and knew nothing of the world. Almost inevitably she is used by others who take advantage of her, falling into poor relationships and the partaking of drugs. However, she has an inner strength that pulls her through the hard times and she has survived, damaged physically and emotionally, but she has lived to be working several very low paid jobs to just get by. She has read widely by spending time in libraries, and learned to look after herself by training, becoming talented in the mixed martial arts, which is where we meet her as she fights an opponent for the much needed $1000 dollar prize money. She is a loner, helping others when she has money, and living in insecure poor accommodation, but she has many of qualities of her twin sister, Atlee.

It is when she helps a woman escape a abusive man that Mercy makes an enemy. It is this villain who brings deadly danger to Atlee, Mercy and Carol. This is an entertaining and engaging read that I enjoyed, but it felt like the weakest book in the series, where it felt like the author was under heavy pressure to conclude everything, and in the rush to do this, the plotting and the characterisation became a little too formulaic for my tastes. Nevertheless, this is a series I have enjoyed, I am assuming this is the end, although I might be interested in seeing how Mercy and Atlee develop as strong women working together from the beginning on intricate and complex investigations. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

David Baldacci never fails to write a good book.
Even though this is number 4 in a series, you can read it as a stand alone. Everything was explained well and you could pick up exactly what was going on.
David Baldacci writes in short snappy chapters to keep you hooked and you know exactly who is talking with each chapter. I haven't read one of his books for a while but this bokk certainly didn't feel like it was over 4oo pages long as i read it quicker than a shorter book

This is the final book in the series and whilst it can be read as a standalone I recommend reading at least the first book to set the characters in place

Its nearly three decades since FBI Agent Attlee Pine's twin sister Mercy was kidnapped , never to be seen again after escaping her captors- leaving Attlee (Lee) ..seriously tormented and damaged .
It has been a long road to discovering the truth filled with setbacks at every turn but whatever the cost Lee , with the help of her assistant Carol , is determined to find out just what happened all those years ago .
But that truth might just more dangerous than anyone could have imagined !!

This is a superb , fast paced thriller to end this enthralling series - one have have thoroughly enjoyed .
I look forward to reading more from the Author in the future

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Mercy, the fourth and final novel to feature Special Agent Atlee Pine of the FBI.

Atlee, helped by her assistant, Carol Blum, is nearing the end of her hunt for her twin sister, Mercy, who was kidnapped as a six year old thirty years ago, but the final stretch is not without life endangering trouble.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mercy, which is a high octane and violent read, full of thrills and spills. I have read all four novels and while I think this will probably work as a stand-alone I would recommend reading the novels in order as they are all the same storyline, the hunt for Mercy, with extra adventures and obstacles inserted into each one to add thrills and excitement.

This one is slightly different as it gives Mercy a voice and the ability to relate her feelings about her life experiences. It is quite difficult to read as she has had a needlessly cruel life and it has coloured her attitude to life. She’s tough and not always likeable, but she doesn’t want sympathy, just the latitude to live her life on her terms. Atlee is softer, but not by much, and absolutely remorseless in her hunt for her sister.

The plot is a cracker. It should be noted that realism isn’t a thing in it, but it’s smart in design and exciting and tense in execution. I would never have imagined the way it plays out and the final action scenes are a tour de force in tension, excitement, violence and imagination. The final few pages are a bit soppy, given what’s gone before, but a fitting finale to what has been a great series. I would love to see a “what Atlee does next” follow up, but it’s probably not in the author’s plans.

Mercy is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

I'm always on the look out for Baldacci's latest offering as he's my favourite author and this book doesn't disappoint. This is the fourth book in the Atlee Pine series with all the usual characters.

FBI Agent Atlee Pine has been trying to find out what has happened to her twin sister who was abducted 30 years ago when she was six years old. She's finally getting to the end of her journey and needs to put the pieces together, but nothing is ever that simple and there's lots going on, leading to more danger and discovery for all concerned.

If you haven't read the rest of this series and want to read them all, I'd suggest you start at the beginning as this book does give you a reminder of what's already happened in the first couple of chapters which is great if its been a while since you read them, but if you enjoyed it and want to go back and the read the rest, you'll know a little to much, so would recommend starting with Long Road to Mercy, which is a great book (first in the series) and set in the Grand Canyon and introduces Atlee and her trail to discover what has happened.

A fast paced and exciting thriller to complete the series. Well done on another great book.

A big thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for allowing me the chance to read and review this book.

Thanks to #netgalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy
This is the final instalment of the Pine Attlee story she is an FBI Agent who over the last 3 books ( which I recommend you read first) has been searching for her sister Mercy who was separated from her sister aged 6 when she was snatched from their home.
Fast paced and full of twists and turns this book as you would expect from Baldacci takes your breath away it’s full of so many plot twists I didn’t know if Atlee was ever going to find her sister who in a bizarre twist is following a parallel life to Atlee they are both looking for same people?
So you will have to read it to see if they ever meet ??

Mercy is the last instalment in the series which has FBI Agent Attlee (Lee) Pine hunting for her sister, who was kidnapped when she was 6 years old, nearly 3 decades ago.

With her trusted assistant Carol Blum by her side, Attlee follows a twisted path to find the truth about what really happened to Mercy

I really enjoyed this book, I thought the characters were well written, good storyline and had every answer by the end!

This is the fourth (and last as said previously) and I think you would have had to have read at least the first one just to get the basics of the book, although the author does try and catch you up.

Recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me the chance to read the book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the final installment in a series about the Pine sisters. As usual a fast paced story although the ending was a little predictable. You do need to have read the previous books to appreciate what is happening, although the author does try to bring you up to speed at several points in the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan MacMillan for this advanced copy.

The latest instalment of Atlee Pine in the search of her sister Mercy.
Atlee and Carol are still on the trail to discover what happened all those years ago when Mercy was abducted as a child from their home.
Information comes through through that Mercy has been seen so they follow the leads they have.
Great instalment of this series by David Baldacci.

This is the 4th book in the Atlee Pine series by author David Baldacci.

FBI Agent Atlee Pine is a troubled soul, she is tormented by not knowing what happened to her twin sister Mercy. Mercy was abducted from her bed at the age of six and has not been seen since. Now Pine is at the end of her long journey to finally discover what happened to her twin sister, Mercy, an incident which destroyed her family and left Atlee physically and mentally scarred.

Atlee is now aware that her sister and parents are out there and she needs to find them whether they are dead or alive. With the help of her assistant, Carol Blum she seeks the truth. The road to uncovering the truth has been tough and she has encountered lies, greed, fear and revenge along the way. Now with one final push the goal is insight, but this challenge is more deadly and dangerous than they could ever have imagined.

I enjoy reading David Baldacci novels but have found this series difficult to fully engage but thought that this novel is the best of the series. I thought the pace in this novel was turned up a notch and there is plenty of suspense throughout. So glad I decided to follow this series to the end.

I would like to thank both Net Galley and Pan Macmillan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

It's written by Baldacci, need I say any more.
Huge fan of his novels and his ability to create new characters and write a series of books featuring them.
I never feel as if he has drawn it out for too long.
Would have probably liked to be a little less biased but I just couldn't.
Here's to many more from the pen of David Baldacci.

Another brilliant book from David baldacci, I can't believe that this is number 4 in the series. This was a great story following on from the previous books, the characters are so strong and their stories so good. I would recommend
this series of books to anyone who likes thrillers. Great ending too.

I loved his easy reading, popular fiction, but recent books have felt a bit tired in considering to some of his earlier works.... probably because he's so prolific! 'Mercy' was him back on form at his best, and really quite thrilling at times. It is thr fourth Atlee Pine book, and one where she takes time out to hunt for her twin sister, abducted as child. It is quite harrowing at times, but thrilling and extremely well crafted. Thank you for a stunning story!

I've been pining for Atlee!
It’s about a year since I left Agent Atlee Pine outside the cave where her sister Mercy had been held captive by her abusers and left Atlee, her assistant Carol Blum and me the reader with more questions than answers. Had Mercy escaped alive? Was she now a murderer as one of her captives had been found dead about the time of her escape? For Atlee there is also a new question. Has years of horrific abuse and being held prisoner, treated in ways no sane person would ever treat an animal turned Mercy into some kind of monster? Very cleverly like all David Baldacci’s thrillers there are several storylines woven through the novel and without giving anything away there are a few edge of your seat moments along with some emotional scenes.
This is a brilliant conclusion to the Mercy quartet and a great example of a thriller writer at the top of his game.
I was so desperate to read this I downloaded it from NetGalley only to find that my iPad would not open the file so have been reading on my phone which is not the easiest thing to do. My high school motto was ‘Persistence brings reward’ and I feel well rewarded.
