I read this over Christmas and it was the perfect accompaniment to the season. A fun story full of twists, betrayal, sibling rivalry and family secrets. I loved every moment. Juno is a true powerhouse.

This isn't your typical cheery Christmas tale; it's far from perfect, with Trigger Warnings for eating disorders and self-harm. Initially, the writing style didn't resonate with me, and I found some elements disrespectful and stereotypical. However, I appreciated the LGBTQ+ representation and the inclusion of a non-binary side character, although the prevalence of stereotypes was disconcerting. The story itself was refreshingly original, tackling unconventional Christmas themes, and I particularly enjoyed the unique chapters featuring the sentient house. The discrepancy between the cover's promise of 'ONE BIG SECRET' and the multiple revelations puzzled me. Despite a shaky start, the satisfying ending and strong character development ultimately made this a worthwhile read, though my feelings remain mixed.

Juno Dawson really cannot disappoint! Every book of hers that I have read, I have loved, and this is no exception. From the blurb I wasn't sure what to expect and I loved discovering everything as I was reading.

The three siblings are so interesting to follow and I really enjoyed that they have distinct voices and narratives. Each one was flawed and seeing the scenarios through different eyes made is so much more compelling.

This book is about messy people and messy relationships, and how things that look perfect on the outside aren't always so. It was heartbreaking at times and hilarious at others in a way that was incredibly engaging and well-balanced.

It tackles some difficult topics and the characters consistently challenge each others bad behaviours. This is one I would highly recommend, and you don't have to save it for Christmas!

I really enjoyed this one. Its told in Juno Dawson's typical prose- very accessible, funny and easy to identify to.
We follow three siblings returning home for Christmas for the first time in two years. The year before the family had not celebrated because the youngest, Willow, was in hospital and Rowan- her brother- was in France skiing.
I loved that there was typical family drama around who's the favourite child and who gets to pick the film. There was also a lot of other relationship drama surrounding all the characters.
Of course the LGBTQ+ rep was fantastic, I particularly liked Thom's character and development. I also thought the rep of eating disorders was done really well.
I ate this book up, I laughed, I cried. It's fantastic.
I recommend if you want an angsty upper YA Christmassy read that shines light on the difficulties people have at this time of year.

A gorgeous story set in Edinburgh at Christmas time, this was a wonderful read. It's not light and fluffy, but it's all the better for the grittiness and realness that fills this story of a family Christmas.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the portrayal of mental health in Stay Another Day, as I always do when it comes to Juno Dawson. In this novel, we see a variety of characters in different stages of their mental health journeys, dealing with different presentations. However, despite the hard hitting content, this book still manages to be a wholesome and uplifting Christmas story.

With complex character dynamics and exploration of family, this has all the depth we'd expect from Juno, but all the warmth and joy of a Christmas staple.

I have been saving the review of this one for December and as close to Christmas as possible. But first a big thank you to Harper 360 for sending me my ebook review copy in exchange for an honest review! Anyway after the formalities lets jump straight to the review of Juno Dawson's Christmas story. Bring on the messy drama and the good tidings.
Plot: Set over the lead up to Christmas the McAllister family is all coming over for Christmas. Rowan and his friend, Fern and her hot boyfriend both comign down from various commitments. Willow is struggling with an eating disorder. Secrets abound, hearts get broken and drama is everywhere!

Holy crap Juno Dawson knows how to get you hooked not that i'm ever surprised seeing as her last book Wonderland (which I reviewed here) was twisty as hell. This one is no different. A lot of messy people messign with people whilst trying to fix it. It's absolutely excellent

For me what I loved was the treatement of mental healthh in this book. Juno has always been perfect when writing about this and this was no differen.t It really resonated with me.

What I will say (not to sound like someone's nan. Is this had a lot of sex in it. Like a lot. which is fine but I'd say it's deffo at the age limit for YA and more into NA.Just something to be aware of especially if buying this for younger people. Because it was pretty..spicy at times.

Overall though this is a fun little queer christmas novel to remember. Super fun although I may not forgive Juno Dawson for getting East 17 Stuck in my head!!

A family drama centred around three young (19, 19, 17) siblings in the days leading up to Christmas.

Party boy Rowan has been studying theatre in London, while his more serious twin Fern has been studying politics and economics in Bristol, and both are returning to their family pile in Edinburgh for the Christmas holidays.
Waiting for them, aside from their doting parents, is their younger sister Willow, who is living with a serious eating disorder.
With her new boyfriend in tow, Fern is looking forward to spending some time at home, while Rowan, and his friend Syd who tagged along, are reluctant to spend too much time in the house and want to get out and party.

Willow has been looking forward to seeing her brother and sister but cannot deal with all the food pressure the holidays bring.
Can the McAllister family manage to keep together or will they fall apart?
While there are serious topics tackled in the book it is still a comedic and fun read about family dynamics.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest feedback.

I always know exactly what to expect from a novel from Juno: full rounded characters, angst, drama, big issues and an effortless reading experience. And I got that with Stay Another Day. But I also maybe expecting something a little easier for a Christmas novel so I was a little out of sorts for a chunk of the novel, but that’s on me.

As always, Juno’s novels are wonderfully and effortlessly diverse and her commentary on social issues spot on. I just maybe wanted something a little lighter and a little more Christmassy.

Absolute page turner! I enjoy Juno’s books so much I never want them to end. Relatable characters, and some hard hitting moments. A Christmas read unlike anything I’ve read before

I received the digital ARC from Netgally in exchange for an honest review.

This book was just what I needed to read during the few days I was away on a short holiday by the beach and was scorching hot, so a bit of Xmas magic set in Edinburgh was the obvious choice!

A family comedy drama set over the Xmas holiday pack full with fun and pearls of wisdom. We get to meet the McAllister family (very Home Alone) that happened to have a wide variety of character and minorities being represented made the book one of my faves from the author.

Written from various points of view, we get to know what makes our characters tic, we see their strengths and weaknesses so we can understand their reactions and family dynamics.

I’ve been following Juno Dawson’s books for a while now, and I can see how much she’s grown as an author, her characters are a lot more complex and whole, the subjects and conversations are a lot more mature and sometimes challenging to read when it comes to tender subjects such as eating disorders, gender identity and other complexities of the modern world.

Highly recommend

I'm no longer interested in reading YA books but thank you for the approval regardless. I like Juno Dawson, I just don't want to read this anymore.

Stay Another Day is fantastic. Juno Dawson writing a Christmas book is everything we didn't know we needed. As usual with Juno's novels it doesn't shy away from topics. It deals with many mental health issues. It could be triggering for some, although it's done sensitively while still being direct. It's a lovely read.

This is a lovely Christmassy book that doesn't pull its punches about mental health, families and keeping secrets, all in Juno's usual, inimitable style. I didn't particularly like the short monologues from the house - they seemed a bit twee to be honest - but the family dynamics and the characters overall were brilliantly written and I really enjoyed it.

I couldn’t believe my luck when Juno Dawson, one of my favourite YA authors, announced that she was writing a Christmas book set in Edinburgh. With a brilliant cast of characters, Stay Another Day follows siblings Fern, Rowan and Willow as they head back home to Edinburgh for a family reunion and chaos ensues as secrets are revealed! I loved chatting about this in Lauren and the Books’ festive Patreon book club.

Drama, scandal and a Christmas turkey. Stay Another Day is the novel that has it all.

The McAllister family love Christmas. It is the one day of the year they all come together and forget the drama of the rest of the year. Having had to miss Christmas the previous year due to the youngest McAllister's battle with anorexia, older sister Fern is determined to make this Christmas one to remember. And boy does she get her wish.

Juno Dawson has crafted an absolute corker of a novel about family dynamics, relationships and mental health. All packaged with a Christmas setting - a time of year bound to get your hackles up - you really feel like you are a member of the family watching the drama explode around you. There are moments that are so very awkward that you genuinely feel uncomfortable and forget for a moment that you are reading fiction.

Another absolute corker from the mighty Juno Dawson.

This was okay - a bit disappointing. It was crammed and felt quite rushed. Usually a big fan of this author, who still delivered on a very inclusive cast of characters.

The PERFECT Christmas Novel!

I loved how the story was split up over a specific amount of days, and splitting between each of the main characters!

The development throughout had me hooked, i loved each character in there own troubles and issues they had to deal with!

The romantic element had me gagging for more! I won't say too much about it but i LOVED IT.

It wasn't your typical christmas novel, it had some hard hitting topics, but it was a breath of fresh air.

I flipping LOVED this book. I thought the diversity was insanely good but also so natural - nothing felt thrown in for the sake of it yet I felt SEEN and like lots of other people would feel the same. I adore Juno's writing and this has become one of my favourites of hers!

I loved this! It was very entertaining, emotional and I struggled to put it down. I think Rowan is definitely my favourite and I loved being able to fast forward to the following Christmas at the end as well.
