Creative nonfiction literary pieces need not always be complicated and too complex for the readers. This is what Georgette F. Bennett’s Thou Shalt Not Stand Idly By impressed on me. The book gave sufficient foundational knowledge about the byzantine conflicts in Syria and Israel. Moreover, the book narrated the story poetically without compromising the unfolding of facts.
The narrative style and presentation of facts in the book makes it interesting and gripping on the part of the reader. It gave me the feeling of nostalgia and melancholy as if I am there inside the book witnessing all the events first-hand. It also serves as an eye-opener to all the readers who are not aware of what is happening in Syria, just like me. It inspired me to appreciate the freedom and the comfort we have in our country. But it also made me admire those who continue to fight and thrive in those kinds of environments. It is a powerful and engrossing narrative of the lives and struggles of the people who never loses hope for themselves, for the next generation, and for their country.

This is an intriguing book that really makes you think about how the world we live in is in such an imbalance. It is important that people know what is going on, and these insights regarding Syria are vital knowledge. We can't simply rely on the media to tell us what is going on.

It is an interesting read with in-depth and personal knowledge about Syria. Sometimes the information in the book went a bit too far into the subject, it was a bit too much on a detail level, which made it a heavier read than expected. By heavier in this case I don't mean the subject, it is heavy to begin with, but I mean that at certain times it slowed down my reading.
