“The Mistletoe Pact” was like a Hallmark movie in written form. It was a sweet, feel good story. It was an easy read, but not that original. I thought it was an okay book, but I could take or leave it. The characters didn’t grab me as I would have liked. I found myself frustrated with how drawn out it was for them to tell one another how they felt.

I received an ARC of “The Mistletoe Pact” by Jo Lovett in exchange for an honest review.

I had a hard time getting into this book. It was well written but the characters just did not grab me.

I would definitely try other books by this author in the future!

This was repetitive and not really the holiday feel I was after, sadly. I didn't find the premise believable (mostly irresponsible).

This one was a pretty sweet and romantic story with a lot of push and pull. Will it happen or will it not. We all knew that it would but it was a bittersweet ride to follow Dan and Evie two people in their thirties and in love.

I didn’t really dislike this book per se, but it also wasn’t for me. This friends to lovers trope left me frustrated at the repetitive internal pining that led to a decade of lost time and missed opportunities. I also was not overly impressed with the number of times Evie’s age was referenced in regards to getting older, starting at the beginning when she was in her early twenties. I know most of us do it, and age is something ingrained in the female psyche, but I think that’s why it bothered me to read it. It just sounds so ridiculous from the outside looking in. This one was also very British. Again, not a bad thing but it used a lot of terms and phrases I couldn’t relate to so it didn’t flow authentically for me. The characters are sweet, and the premise is cute. I just didn’t appreciate the big picture as much as I was hoping to.

This book was a quick and easy read. I do wish there was a but more Christmas-y feel to it, but overall was an ok read. I didn’t get very invested in the characters and honestly wasn’t sure if I felt like they should be together nor if I cared. Unfortunately this fell a bit flat for me personally, but would say give it a read if you have time to kill and like friends to lovers!

It was a good book but it was drawn out and I lost interest halfway through. It was set at Christmas but did not have a Christmasy feel to it.

Never have I wanted to scream more at two people to get together in all my life!!

Evie and Dan are friends because of Dan’s sister, however there hallways seems to have been a connection with them. The story follows their lives from that first heart stopping moment until they eventually get together, showcasing all the trials and tribulations in between. A great read that has you turning the pages quickly just to see if they make it in the end!

This was a really sweet and enjoyable read that kept me turning the pages!

Sometimes the back and forth style timelines can aggravate me but in The Mistletoe Pact they worked. The story is told from present day and then moves forward as they start with the furthest Christmas back and work forward.

There were a few minor quibbles I had with the book but it's often the same with most stories like this where you're screaming at the characters to just TELL ONE ANOTHER how they feel! But then the story wouldn't be told so I'll deal with it.

If you're looking for a good and engaging holiday read, this is a great one to pick up.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

It was a light and fun read but I honestly didn't like the characters very much. The book's pace was slower than I wanted it to be but you might like this if you like Hallmark movies.

Ah, the marriage pact. It's a tried and true trope of romance novel, but that's mostly because it works. Evie and Dan vow to marry each other if they haven't married anyone else by the time their thirty. Then, they wake up Christmas Eve (and the eve of her 30th birthday) to find themselves married, in Las Vegas, in the honeymoon suite. A quick divorce is their solution, but will it be that easy?

This is my favorite romance trope (the slow burn "silly" marriage pact) and Jo Lovett does a marvelous job with it here. It pushed all the right buttons and included the sparkle of Christmastime. I had not heard of Lovett before (is this a debut? not certain.) but I look forward to reading her work again.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an electronic review copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you for the e-arc but I couldn't finish the book. I DNF around 35%... A bit too slow for me and I was missing the sparkle

So sweet! I buddy-read this with my friend and we both really enjoyed it. A holiday Hallmark movie in book form.

It was a quick and easy read. A very cute story about two friends making a marriage pact. The story has relatable characters and witty banter.
My only critique is it's not really a holiday story as the title would have you believe. Very little of it takes place at Christmas.

Two friends make a pact on Christmas Eve: if they are still single when they are 30, they will marry each other. Eight years later, the day before Evie’s 30th birthday, they wake up after a night in Vegas to realize they got married the night before. They decide to get a divorce and pretend it never happened. But after years of hiding their feelings for each other that’s easier said than done.

This was definitely a very Hallmark-esque story - unnecessary drama and all. There were a lot of cute lighthearted moments, and I did enjoy this book, but there were also many moments where I wanted to shake the characters. The lack of communication was very frustrating at times and they just needed to admit their feelings! Otherwise, this was a fun red with holiday vibes and alternating timelines, which I always enjoy.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This was such a cute friends to lovers, I liked how it alternated between the past and the now but i felt like it kind of dragged in the middle what with the lack of communication which was frustrating, but other than that, I really enjoyed reading it.

Not the great holiday romance book I was hoping for, but an easy and lighthearted read.

Very much a cheesy romance with a slight festive undertone. It felt a little predicate but at the same time unbelievable l, but for the most part I enjoyed the plot and the premise. A marriage pact made under the mistletoe at Christmas with her best friend’s dreamboat older brother. Evie, our main character, has a long lasting crush on Dan, the doctor and seemingly perfect man. There are the usual trials of distance, lack of clear communication and inability/unwillingness to commit but it is, of course, a delightfully happy ending.

My issue was with the length and pacing, I found myself becoming bored and a bit lost with the story, it could have been shorter and punchier with a few less unnecessary dramas and I would have likely enjoyed a lot more.

Thank you for the ARC in exchange for this honest review.
