With thanks to Netgalley, and Headline Eternal for providing me with an eArc in exchange for an honest review.

I'm so glad I kicked off spooky season with this! This was such a fun book, a bit of Buffy here, a little Sabrina there, some Bewitched and Hocus Pocus vibes too, stirred up with humour, banter and sexy times.
This was essentially a romance novel with great characters, actual thought put into the magic elements and a decent plot. My only gripe was the ending felt a bit rushed.

"Never mix witchcraft and vodka."

Nine years ago, Rhys Penhallow stole her heart ... and then broke it. But that's what she gets for dating a witch boy, just like her family said. But she knew the best cure for a broken heart is a strong vodka, a hot bath and a good curse. But just a silly one, of course, because as if it'd really work using a Bath and Body scented candle and a petty rhyme?

But now Rhys is back. As a descendent of the towns founders, he's been sent to attend the Founders Festival and strengthen the Ley Lines. Vivi thought Rhys being back in town was going to be the worst thing that happened, but it looks like maybe her 'silly little curse' wasn't so silly after and now they need to work together to save their magic and maybe even Rhys himself.

"You literally said 'I curse you, Rhys Penhallow,' and now you're surprised that I, Rhys Penhallow, am cursed? Also, I'm sorry, what was that about clitorises?"

After being pitched to me as 'Hocus Pocus but they f*ck', I had very high expectations of this novel and I was not disappointed. From best-selling Author Rachel Hawkins writing as Erin Sterling, this was a magically feel-good story for every woman who's ever wanted to hex their ex. I don't need much prompting to get into the Halloween spirit but Sterling had me booking a one-way ticket to Halloween Town by the time I'd finished the first page.

The characters were simply amazing - all of them so real and complex, down to the smallest supporting characters. Vivi was made of pure class and sass and I adored her instantly. I even found myself falling prey to Rhys' charm despite knowing what a douche he'd been.

The adventure started off almost right away and their race to save the Ley Lines was set back by all sorts of hilarious mishaps from talking plastic skulls to rather angry ghosts - all the while trying to navigate a somewhat confusing and possible distasterous relationship. A story about sisterhood, love, magic and self-discovery all wrapped up with a spooky little bow.

Fully of witty witchiness, chaotic comedy and steamy romance, this was a spellbindingly spooky Halloween read that's not to be missed.

I was really enjoying this book, but there were soooo many typos that I could only get a few chapters in, but I will be waiting for the paperback and see if I can get a copy because this was giving me really up to date Sabrina the teenage witch vibes!

This is a fun romance with withes, some spookiness and ghosts perfect for the Halloween season. It was fun and fluffy. I really enjoyed my time with it.

If you're like me and can't wait for the start of the autumnal/Halloween season, then this book is great to set the scene for that. It's a standard rekindling exes story, which probably wouldn't interest me when isolated from its context, but with the addition of witches, ghosts and curses sprinkled in for a little extra flavour, I did enjoy it. It's a quick and easy read good for setting the scene for spooky season, just don't expect any deeper than what it advertises on the surface.

(Many thanks to Netgalley and Headline for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.)

Great fun, a fantastic romance with more than a touch of magic.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, there were so many really funny moments and it made for a highly entertaining read. I'm a big fan of witchy books and this should be a big hit, especially with Halloween around the corner.

A cute and charming romance, perfect for curling up with on an Autumn's evening. Definite 'Gilmore Girls' vibes but with more magic and sex. It's the story of a broken heart and a curse gone badly wrong but also of second chances and finding your place in the world. I adored both the setting and the characters and the chemistry between the leads was believable and swoon-worthy. I sincerely hope that there may be further trips to Grave Glen and perhaps books for Rhy's brothers (intrigued by the beard!) If you're looking for a deliciously sexy and magical romance then look no further.

This was just so cute and sweet I loved and adored everything about this book and the characters. I really love second chance romances so this truly gave me everything I was looking for! 5/5 stars!

3.75 because I couldn’t decide ✨

First of all - the vibes were immaculate. Drunken curses, hand painted tarot cards, a cute little witchy shop and not one but TWO small town autumn events? Um, yes. It was also stood out completely from any other romance book I’ve read recently, which was really refreshing.

The curse scene was hilarious, and the light fun style continued throughout- to where I think we lost a bit of the subplot. The focus was of course on Rhys and Vivi’s relationship, and while this is happening they are trying to stop the curse Vivi accidentally cast on Rhys. This plot was more used to get the characters to do things together rather than actually taking it seriously, and it got a little lost. I think it was a little ambitious of a plot for a romance centric novel. It felt like that should have been the focus, with the romance as the sub plot instead. It wrapped up nicely in the end, but it felt a little out of the blue. That being said, I still really enjoyed the curse events and their adventures to stop them. They definitely made for some interesting scenes!

The romance itself had a nice build up, and some excellent tension building, but a once they actually got together a lot of it happened away from the page, which was a little disappointing. Rhys was honestly one of the reasons that upped my rating though, because he was such a charming character and you couldn’t not love him 🥺

A fun read to put you in the seasonal mood - I read mine with a pumpkin spice latte and a nice candle ☕

This is 5* based on how much I think I will like the book after reading the first 20% as the formatting on my kindle paperwhite was really bad, all the ‘th’ and ‘f’’s we’re missing which meant reading it wasn’t easy and it didn’t flow as well as it should. That being said what I did read I really enjoyed and had I had a readable format I’m sure I would have devoured this in one sitting

Spectacularly Spellbinding and exceptionally funny—Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling has written one of the best rom-coms I’ve read all year! The magical mishaps, small town setting and general witchy-ness is the perfect read to ease you into the Halloween season.

'You broke my heart, Rhys Penhallow. And we curse you. You and your whole stupid, hot line.'

Vivi Jones handled the biggest breakup of her life the way any girl would—Vodka, a bubble bath and putting a curse on her ex.

Nine years later, Rhys Penhallow, defendant of the towns’ founders (and Vivi’s ex) is back! He’s returned Graves Glen to recharge the ley lines and make an appearance at the annual founders festival. But when his every move results in calamity, Vivi realises hexing him might not have been so harmless after all...

As the curse starts to affect the town, with murderous windup toys, an outraged ghost and surprisingly talkative cat. Vivi and Rhys must put their personal feelings aside to work together to break the curse to save not only the town—but also Rhys’ life.

I loved this! In fact, there wasn’t a single thing I didn’t love about it, it’s funny, it’s witchy and the romance is absolutely perfect! I loved bothRhys and Vivi, who were definitely well matched and made for one another—their chemistry together is completely off the charts.

In fact I loved virtually all of the characters (all except Rhys’ dad who was absolutely horrid.) Of the supporting characters, I really liked Gwyn;who’s sass, humour and threats to anyone who insulted her fur baby were the perfect comic relief in the sadder, more emotionally tense scenes.

I also absolutely loved Sir Purrcival (Gwyn’s temporarily talking cat) who was hilariously relatable—if I could have a talking cat I’d want him to be just like Sir Purrcival.

The descriptions were heavily filled with autumn visuals that’s got me yearning for Halloween to start already, honestly October cannot come soon enough!

Overall, The Ex Hex is a truly endearing, funny and undeniably magical rom-com,it’s Practical Magic meets The Gilmore Girls and I am a hundred percent OBSESSED!

Also, thanks to Headline and NetGalley for the e-arc.
