I started this book with high expectations; The cover was great and the premise was intriguing. Unfortunately, I was immediately confused upon reading the first page. Many chapters later, I found myself just as bemused as I had been at the aforementioned beginning.

I found the structure odd. Perhaps, had we started with the ‘meeting,’ then gone back to meet the characters, the story would have flowed better. Meeting the characters as we did, in such a singular, staccato fashion, led to me feeling irritated and perplexed upon each introduction.

I did not end up finishing the book as, having no idea what was going on, and disliking the characters, I soon became weary with/detached from the storyline.

I liked the book in general, it had a great suspenseful atmosphere with interesting characters. But some chapters were a bit boring .for me. However I would like to try reading another book by the author. Thanks, NetGalley and Publisher for the ARC!

I wanted to like this, but it was hit or miss for me. I liked some aspects, the narrative being one of them, but I found all of the characters so drab and hard to follow or connect with.

Finished the book in one breath and it's safe to say it was a really enjoyable read! It's a combination between fantasy and mystery with a lot of suspense and I truly liked this mix! All the essential characters are connected to each other and it was a pleasure slowly discovering their secrets. You like them, as much as hate them, blame them for things they did, as much as understand their motives. This is how characters should be written - with so many different layers, each one hiding a truth that provokes different emotions in you while reading!
Definitely recommend this book!

I went into this book thinking it would be a cross between Clue the movie and Knives Out with a twist of Fantasy.

I apologize for the poor review but I could not finish this book. I read a pretty good chunk of the story but couldn't get through another chapter. The story bored me a bit and might have been out of my wheelhouse. I don't think this book was for me and with the previous expectation of Clue and Knives Out, it fell flat.

I don't think I'll be picking this book up to try again.

1.5 stars for what I have read.
