I want to start with a MASSIVE thank you to Netgalley and Faber and Faber for letting me have an advance readers copy of this book, however, this has not impacted on my personal review of the book.

This book was a retelling of a classic fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin and the story follows a young girl called Serilda who was cursed, from birth, by the god of fortune and storytelling. As a result of this, bad fortune has followed the girl everywhere she goes and one night, her stories gets her into trouble with the king of the wild hunt. With the lie that she can spin straw into gold, she is taken to the Erlking’s castle where she accidentally summons a boy who can make this lie come true, for a price.

I never thought I would want a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin of all fairy tales but I have to say Meyer did a fantastic job at giving us something I never knew I needed! The characters were all charming, especially Gild an Serilda and the setting was mysterious and magical. I loved the stories that Serilda would tell and how she would spin her own experiences to the people she met on her journey. I also really loved the sweetness of Gild and Serilda’s relationship, it was refreshing and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The only things that bought the rating down for me was I found the pacing relatively slow for my tastes and the plot was slightly predictable in my opinion. However, I can see why Meyer is called the queen of retellings and despite everything I really enjoyed a darker retelling of a beloved fairy tale.

I’d definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves YA fantasy and retellings, anyone who is a Meyer fan or just a fan of reading in general. Gilded will be released on November 2nd so keep your eyes open for it!

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!! Thank you for the arc Faber Books and Netgalley. This book was phenomenal, I loved the retelling. It was such an interesting and fun read. Serlida was a fantastic lead character and Gild was adorable as well. The erlking was also a really really good villain as well, I hated him but was fascinated by him in equal measure. The cliff hanger was fantastic and I really really want a sequel, the way it ended needs a sequel

I was into this from the very beginning, and could hardly bear to put it down, without rushing back to it. Serilda tells a story, she loves telling stories, to the wrong person, the Alder king in charge of the hunt, who expects her to spin straw into gold for him. I will not give any spoilers, except to say I loved the characters of Sirelda and Gild, and I found it engaging from the beginning. It is based on the Rumpelstiltskin tale, but differs from the traditional fairy tale, not least because the characters involved are well drawn, and because it is different, but I can't reveal any more without risking spoiling it. All I can say is that the reader will find it enjoyable and an intriguing take on a traditional fairy tale , and that the novel is highly recommended.

Gilded is a stand-alone novel told in third person. It is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin. Unfortunately, I stopped reading this book at 30% because I was bored by the story. Gilded follows Sherilda who tells a story to the Erlking that she can spin straw into Gold. This was a lie so Sherilda is in trouble when he locks her in his dungeon to spin straw into gold. Luckily a young man who can spin straw into gold helps her out. I liked the premise of this story and the beginning was interesting. However, at 30% not much had happened and there was no danger or high stakes. I really tried to carry on reading this but it’s just not working for me. Also, the amount of stories (lies) Sherilda told was annoying. Many people will love this book and I can tell there is a romance coming later in the book. This was disappointing for me as I was looking forward to reading it and I have given previous Marissa Meyer books five stars.

The Queen of retellings is back....with a Rumplestiltskin retelling! Well sort of, let's just say he is not the Rumplestiltskin from Shrek!!!!!!

And I couldn't be happier!

I picked up this book with intentions to just read a few chapters before I commenced with adulting but then somehow all that went by the wayside and I read the book in a day! It was unputdownable and let me tell you why.....

Serilda, born of a wish to a God, with black and golden eyes, loves to spin a 'story'.....and then a 'story' gets her into trouble with one person she shouldn't have lied to! But this leads her to adventure and someone I am so glad she met!

'So much for spinning straw into gold.'

I loved Serilda and her stories but I fell head over heels with Gild. I'm not really saying more about him but you can guess who he is!

This was a fast paced read, a bit dark which I loved and the romance was so cute. So cute in fact that I wanted to hug them both. Their vulnerability and innocence made my heart squeeze!

Add to this the fantastic world building, the great side characters and it was all finished off with a sprinkle of mystery!

But that ending!!! I didn't know this was going to be more than 1 book.....and I need more, really soon!

What a magical read Gilded by Marissa Meyer was. A pleasure to read from start to finish....
Cursed by the god of lies, a miller’s daughter has developed a talent for storytelling – but are all of her tales as false as they appear?

When one of Serilda’s stories draws the attention of the devastating Erlking, she finds herself swept away into a world of enchantment, where ghouls prowl the earth, and ravens track her every move. The king locks Serilda in a castle dungeon and orders her to spin straw into gold, or be killed for lying. In despair, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious young man to her aid. And he agrees to help her, for a price. But love wasn’t meant to be part of the bargain.

Recommend you read this one, giving it top marks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
