I loved returning to this series, was so happy to read Toni’s story, this can be read as a stand-alone you won’t be lost at all, but I highly recommend the full series just because they are so good. This isn’t really a Christmas themed story, but it is set over winter and you definitely still get that seasonal feel and warmth. This is book full of emotion , love, loss, trust, loyalty and faith, there are so many themes covered foster parenting, pregnancy and health as well as community, friendships and love. Absolutely fantastic series and books, thoroughly recommended

Toni, having suffered a great loss in her life, deserves happiness. And now, in a secret relationship with Bobby, and afraid to share their relationship with others--partly because Toni is just unable to move past her grief.

Set in Cornwall, this is a tale of grief, heartbreak, hope, and healing. Toni and Bobby have much to overcome and the author handles it beautifully.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
My review will be live, at the link given, on 11/19/21.

Welcome back to Cornwall and the intriguing lives of the Port Agnes midwives.

Oh, I’ve been waiting to find out what was up with Toni throughout the first two books. I should mention that although this is book three and we are introduced to Toni and Bobby earlier on, this book works as a standalone. Anything you need to know about these two is covered here.

Toni’s reason for keeping her relationship with Bobby a secret is finally out!! I had assumed it was something to do with their age difference, but it’s soooo much more complicated than that; so much more intriguing, so much sadder, and so much more maddening!

Of course I’m not going to tell you what it is. You have to read the book to find out!

Let me tell you, there were moments I just wanted to shake some sense into her crazy head. She was driving me bonkers with her surety that all was lost and that she could never be happy. I was almost ready to give up on her.

But not Bobby. The man has the patience of a saint. He’s such a darling and I couldn’t help but want to get one of his very generous hugs. While the story really focuses more on Toni’s angst and the issues she has to work through, we still have a few chapters told from his perspective. Those chapters allow us to see very clearly the struggle he faces as he has to decide if to move on or to fight what seems to be a losing battle. Each time he makes some progress, he’s faced again by one of Toni’s closed doors. Yet, somehow, he keeps finding himself drawn back to her.

We are also treated to a few chapters from fellow midwife Jess, and we catch up with the goings on in Anna and Ella’s lives. I quite enjoy these peaks; and the suspense is certainly building up for us to finally get to Jess’ story next!

The story spans several months and culminates in the winter months. It’s not really a Christmas story despite super charming cover image. But don’t worry, the charm and spirit are there in spades.

My nana always used to say that grief is what happens to the love that has nowhere to go once someone is gone.

That’s perhaps my favourite line in the story, and as you might guess from it, there are some very poignant scenes throughout the book. Grief and guilt are recurring themes as we see how various characters handle or don’t handle the losses in their lives.

Overall, this is another beautifully written and emotion-tugging installment in the Cornish Midwives series!

A veritable treat – the next episode in the Cornish Midwife series – albeit a reminder that winter is approaching rapidly!

I did feel for Toni, who had ostensibly been railroaded into getting married, just to appease her future Mother-in-Law, who seemed to have been playing on her MS diagnosis for some years now. As I saw it, there was suspicion in Toni’s mind that she loved Aaron more like a Brother than a lover – after all, they had grown up in each others pockets, both only children and with their respective families very close.

I’m not going to ruin things too much, but Toni did move on – you will have to read for yourself to find out why – but when she fIndus a new partner, she struggles to move on and is very secretive about her new love – but how long can he put up with this? They surely can’t keep their relationship a secret forever. Yes, Toni has her reasons, but still…….

This story dealt with some heavy issues with the utmost empathy and I’m certain that some would find comfort from it.

I enjoyed this read from start to finish and can’t wait for the next in the series!

When Toni loses her fiance it has a double loss. His mother had been pushing and manipulating, and causing stress for both, and when he dies of a hemorrhage, it tears her apart. Now she is under the thumb of her former or would have been Mother-In-Law, and 5 years later she still feels guilty about finding someone new. Good story and I did enjoy it, but did find it a bit confusing that she allowed it to go on so long. The concept makes a good story though, and I would recommend this one.

I've not read other books in this series but this didn't matter. I may go back and do so now!
This is a great story and I did read to the end, although there were some times when I got so frustrated with Toni and how she was behaving towards Bobby and those around her. This made me want to skim ahead to see if she sorted herself out. I resisted and enjoyed the story as it unfolded,

Another lovely instalment in the Cornish Midwife series. This story focuses on Toni and Bobby.

Behind Toni's sometimes hard exterior is someone who is carrying a great deal of pain and regret. The story follows her journey - can she embrace the future?

Midwives Toni and Bobby have been having a secret romance for a long time. Toni is reluctant to let everyone know how she feels about him because she believes she doesn’t deserve happiness. Bobby is tired of hiding his love and is prepared to walk away if they cannot be upfront with their family and friends.

Can the magic of Christmas save their relationship and allow Toni to become a little braver?

It is always a delight returning to Port Agnes.

The latest from the Cornish Midwife series by Jo Bartlett will leave readers laughing, crying, mad, irritated, anxious, hopeful, love, envy, and everything in between! Tori finds herself in a predicament she feels no one would understand all while feeling stuck and unable to move in from mourning her fiancé’s death five years ago. What will it take to share how she really feels and how it’s making her miserable to be constantly reminded of her loss?

Tori tried to keep her relationship with Bobby a secret from her family and coworkers. She even insists Bobby needs to keep everything hushed. He goes along with it for the first three years, but is now tired of hiding and just wants to love Tori openly. Tori, however, is faced with the potential disappointment of her parents and their best friends, who are the parents of the fiancé she lost.

Tori and Bobby each receive unexpected words of wisdom through other situations that give them another perspective to how the other might be going through. But is it too late for them to admit their better understanding?

Thank you to Boldwood Books, NetGalley, and Rachel’s Random Resources for access to A Winter’s Wish for the Cornish Midwife by Jo Bartlett. I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras because it kept me urging Tori to just say how she feels. Sometimes we get so concerned about how others might react that it’s difficult to be open. I love Tori’s concern for keeping the peace.

3,5* rounded to 4
As much as I love this series I found this story a bit frustrating and it wasn't easy to warm up to Tony.
She started as a lively woman, someone who wanted to be independent, and ended being emotionally manipulated by the mother of her former fiancè and her parents.
I met some people like her and I always feel for them and hope they grow a spine.
In any case I love her character arc and I'm curious to read about the future. It was great to catch up with the other midwives and Bobby was a great characters.
Heartwarming and frustrating at the same time, recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This is the third entry in a series, but reads well as a stand alone novel. The main character featured in this book is midwife Toni, who is very private about her past, and has not shared with her friends and co-workers that she was engaged five years previously and that her fiancé died suddenly. She has taken blame upon herself for his death, with no real reason to do so, and finds herself being manipulated by her late fiancé's parents. By halfway through the book I was losing all sympathy for Toni. She is in love with a fellow midwife, and he is close to ending the relationship, which has been conducted in secret. On a positive note, the stories of some of the other midwives and their patients are believable, relatable and heartwarming.

This is a great series and I thoroughly enjoyed the first two in the series. The team spirit between the midwives makes for a warm and comforting read and the variety of the characters, both medics and community members makes for a rich story. Although you get to keep up with how the team members are getting on, this story focuses on Toni and Bobby's relationship and you realise why they have been so reluctant in the earlier books to become an official partnership. I did find Toni's situation frustrating to read and felt quite exasperated at how she allowed herself to be manipulated by her ex-fiancé's mother.

You also follow Jess and her application to be a foster parent. I am sure that she will get her own novel in the series at some point and can see some potential there. I also like how issues of childlessness are interwoven into the stories as a contrast to the births which are described. The setting on the Cornish coast is gorgeous and allows moody walks along the beach and remote farms to be reached.

In short: A novel full of friendship and community

Quick and fun read. I am glad that I picked this one. This is such a fun and cute Christmas read. I am so glad that I requested this book. The setting was cute and was an overall good cute read.

This can definitely be read as a standalone but if you have read the other books it definitely adds a little something to the story in my opinion. The characters are great as always and the storyline was really interesting with a little added mystery element. A great 4 star read.

Winters Wish for the Corish Midwife is charming, it’s a beautifully emotional story that will tug at the heartstrings.

Winter’s Wish for the Cornish Midwife is the third book in the Cornish Midwife series, I’ve not read the previous two books but that’s nothing new for me, I tend to jump in midway through a series. In a way, you can read this as a stand-alone but I think you need to read the previous two first, I felt a little out of the loop at times. I will continue with the series, but not before reading the previous books first – that’s once I get down my mountainous TBR pile.

This book has a feel of ‘Call the Midwife’ with a little bit of ‘Where the Heart is’ thrown in, now I will admit I am not the biggest fan of either of the shows I tend to dip into them when there is nothing else to watch on TV or at Christmas. But I do love the community and friendship aspect of those shows and that is exactly what you get here, this book is all about love and friendship and moving forward.

I liked the prologue and that we see Toni’s back story first, we see what she went through, her heartache at losing her fiance and how that has impacted her life and the promises she made at an emotional time in her life. I do think that as the years went by she may have regretted promising never to move on and never to find love again, I rather think that was self of her mother in law to ask that of Toni, you understand that she was grieving but you can’t expect another person never to find love and be happy ever again.

This is what Toni has done, she stuck to her word even when she met Bobby, but you can see she is conflicted does she come out and tell the world about her past and finally move forward or does she continue to live this half-life to keep others content. It’s a difficult choice and for someone who is as private as Toni is, she doesn’t want anyone in she has hardened her heart and raised a wall around her, but deep down I thought she was lonely and frustrated and deep down I think she is a little unhappy – which also makes Bobby frustrated that he can’t share with everyone his feelings for Toni.

Overall I did enjoy the book, the story flows perfectly from one scene to the next even though I thought some parts were a little slow for my liking and as I hadn’t read the previous two books in this series, I did feel as though I had missed out on crucial parts in the plot and with the backstories of other characters but despite that, I did enjoy the book, it’s a lovely story of living life after heartache, of second chances of happiness and how important friendship and community are to a person life.

A Winter's Wish for the Cornish Midwife
by: Jo Bartlett
Boldwood Books
The third in The Cornish Midwife Series, this book is the emotionally compelling story of Toni and her life as a professional young midwife in Port Agnes. Although she excels in her career, her heart is heavy from a past loss. Bartlett's writing is a deep, intimate portrayal of Toni's most private feelings and fears as she navigates her current relationship with co-worker and male midwife Bobby.
Relationships with family and co-workers are layered with themes of grief, loyalty, trust, and love. The journeys of foster parenting, pregnancy, health issues, and relationship dynamics add dimension to the plot through the work and personal lives of the ensemble of characters. The factors of emotional support and healing are emphasized. For me, exploration of characters' careers adds a lot to a book, and this one delivers.
With a beautiful setting of the Cornish Atlantic coast, Bartlett's tender, character-driven tale is one to remember and reflect on, long after the Christmas season. With anticipation, I look forward to reading the rest of this series.
Thank you to Net Galley and Boldwood Books for the advance reader's copy and opportunity to provide my honest review.

A Winter's Wish for the Cornish Midwife is the third book in The Cornish Midwife series, and this book can be read as a stand-alone. Readers who have not read the other two books will still enjoy the world Jo has created. But for me, I would have personally preferred to have read the previous two books before jumping into this one. I felt like I was missing the backstories for many of the main characters, and I wasn't as excited about those big life-changing moments they were experiencing in this book. Now that being said, I still really enjoyed this book and planned on reading the previous two books. Also, I was expecting this book to be a light, easy romance read. It has romancey moments, but this book has more depth than I thought it would. It also deals with complicated issues and problems, and it includes so many big emotional moments within its pages.

Toni is a more serious romance main character; she isn't that happy-go-lucky bubbly character that you often find in romance books. Toni has been keeping many secrets in her life; her friends don't know that she lost her finance five years ago, and no one knows that she has been secretly dating Bobby, a fellow midwife. All the secrets Toni has been keeping start to boil over in this book. Toni feels like she is under constant pressure because of all these lies she has been keeping. She also feels like she needs to keep her fiance's parents happy. Now, the last sentence sounded awful, so let me explain before you think her would-be in-laws are terrible people because they aren't. Toni blames herself for Aaron's (her finance's) death because she thinks the stress from their fight caused Aaron to have a brain aneurysm. This blame caused Toni to promise herself that she would do whatever it takes to make sure that she could ease the grief Aaron's parents were feeling, and she also promised to always be a part of their lives. Toni finds herself going to their house for Christmases, birthdays, and other celebrations and realizes that she is stuck in this world where she will never be able to move on romantically with another man. The situation Toni finds herself in is quite complicated. And honestly, I don't know if I would have done anything differently; grief and trying to protect loved ones is a difficult thing to navigate through. A good portion of this book is focused on Toni's journey of starting to forgive herself and learning to move on from the loss of her fiance. There are lots of highs and lows in her journey, and I thought Jo did a fantastic job at showing readers that sometimes the answers to life's difficult questions can come from unexpected places.

The romance between Toni and Bobby is sweet and tender. There is definitely some tension between the happy couple. Bobby is tired of keeping their relationship a secret, and rightly so. A lot of their relationship is in this "limbo" state. Neither one wants to separate, but they also know their relationship's current state can't last. There is a lot of angst in this relationship. But like most romance books, it does end on a happy note and has that cheesy romantic finish that romance readers expect.

This book was so much more than just your typical romance novel. Readers get to see what many couples often go through while trying to get pregnant, while being pregnant, or while trying to become a foster parent. I loved that Jo included such a diverse cast of couples in her book. I also loved seeing the world of midwifery, and hats off to these extraordinary ladies (and men) for doing what they do. Their ability to stay calm under pressure is impressive.

A Winter’s Wish for the Cornish Midwife is an extraordinary book with so much heart.
