Sorry for the delay in reviewing, I found this just to be ok - sorry my opinion.
It was slow and I didn't really like the characters, but it was not the spooky story I was expecting it to be.

I read this during the Halloween season and it did fit and work and got me in the mood as it was so atmospheric. It took a while to get into it but once I did it was a good read

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience

An ok book but in all honesty I found it rather slow and the characters very annoying. Worth a read but not the spooky story I was expecting.

Ooh what a great book The Woman in the Woods by Lisa Hall was, I was gripped from the first few pages and this continued to the last page. Great twists that held my attention and made me want to read more. Another great book by Lisa.

Loved it, really good fast paced thriller full of twists and turns and had me racing through it to get to the end!! Will look out for more from the author…

A domestic mystery with some supernatural elements. The pacing was too slow although many of the ideas presented were good but underwritten. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

Creepy and intriguing - gets better as it goes along and pulls you in! The ideal read for those dark autumn evenings. Really enjoyed it.

Beautiful writing, strong sense of place, and a growing sense of unease are let down by an underwhelming ending which left me wanting more. Not my favourite book of this authors but her writing is strong enough that I would consider another of her books in future.

I had a few download issues with the book and by the time it was sorted, the file had unfortunately been achieved. Happy to re-review if it becomes available again.

I was given a copy of The Women in the woods by Lisa Hall by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Allie has just had a baby and moved to a old house with her family. When she starts to see a woman in the woods and strange things happen Allie doesn't know what is happening. A great book with some spooky twist but the ending could've been better

This book is classified as supernatural horror/thriller, described by some as "chilling" and that will "have you on the edge of your seats". Sadly, none of these descriptions were accurate for me, especially once finishing the book at the final revelation. Whilst the book does touch on elements of supernatural events, I found that this area of the book could've really been further developed and made a far more interesting storyline. The book begins with a great deal of potential. We are initially introduced to Allie, mother of two young children, Mina and Leo, who has recently bought an old cottage in a rural part of England with her husband Rav. Discoveries in the attic reveal that the house has quite a past, possibly carrying some dark, hidden secrets. As the story develops, Allie finds herself drawn to these past histories of the old house, which results in her husband and best friend questioning her mental state. The book did have me engaged at certain times, although simply narrated in parts. As a reader, I wanted to know more of the history of the house and what Allie was experiencing. However, the twists which begin to unfold in the latter part of the novel for me were too apparent, so there was no big revelation that I didn't see coming. There were also a few other parts which let the book down for me. At sporadic points in the book there is a narration in Italics of a characters' movements late at night in the house, which of course we know will have some meaning to be revealed later in the book. However, I was not left completely sure even at the end of the book who they were supposed to be of and how this was concluded alongside the final ending. The ending itself left me feeling somewhat let down. Whilst we find out what happens to Allie and her family, the fact that the majority of this book was centred around the history of the cottage, it would have been nice to have some kind of closure or conclusion to this. For these reasons, I felt I could not give this book anymore than 2.5/3*. Disappointing as the plot had far more potential. My thanks go out to netgalley and HQ Stories, HarperCollins for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this.

I loved the atmosphere the author created in this book. It was dark, eerie, and had me on the edge of my seat. I struggled to trust the protagonist, and that’s what made this book even better. I was questioning every thought, every action, and trying to work out what would happen next. The author handled mental health and new motherhood well, and despite the story having a ghostly feel to it, the topic was still handled sensitively.

I enjoyed the plot and finding out bits and pieces about the mystery and legends of Allie’s house. We were drip-fed the information, so it felt like we were finding things out slowly, rather than all at once, which added to the tension and intrigue.

The ending was so good, unexpected, and satisfying. I wish it had maybe been expanded on a little more, but apart from that I really liked this book! Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.

This one is interwoven with gothic and paranormal elements which makes this a compelling and chilling story.

I received a copy of this book from HQ via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Allie & Rav move to the cute country cottage in the village of Pluckley. Rav is working a lot of overtime &. Allie has recently given birth to Leo & along with their four year old Mina she finds herself exhausted most of the time . She finds out that their house is known as 'The Witches House' & there are some who are only too willing to tell her the story surrounding it & the village. She begins to hear strange noises. She catches glimpses of someone running through the woods & finds herself waking up in different parts of the house. Along with being thoroughly spooked by the house she begins to suspect that Rav is cheating with her best friend. This is a lot for a new mum to cope with.

This sounded like a good creepy read. However I struggles to buy into the supernatural element. Allie irritated me instead of sympathising with her I wanted to yell- 'Talk to someone!!' Not that Rav was much help. If he'd been around more things wouldn't have escalated so much! The end came as no surprise- just glad my suspicions were right. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book- even if it wasn't a great read for me!

This book is about Allie, who moves to her dream home in the countryside with her husband and two young children. But soon spooky goings on start to happen . . . Is someone out to try and get her and harm her children?

I really enjoyed this book - it was very creepy and spooky and had all the markings of a good creepy story. It went back and forwards in time and this really added to the plot. I didn’t know who to believe between the main character, her husband but also the best friend. There was a lot of history to this book which was really interesting and the parallels between past and present were really good. This was very twisty too. The ending wasn’t what I was expecting but it was still really good.

When Allie and her husband Rav move into their new home in the village of Pluckley, life seems perfect. But not long after the birth of their second child, Allie begins to notice strange things about their house. A scratching sound in the chimney, someone watching her from the woods behind the house, poisonous plants in the garden… As Allie gets pulled deeper into the history of the house, she learns disturbing things about what happened there in the past, as well as about who she can trust in the present.

I really loved the supernatural and witchcraft angle of this story, and then the excellent (if slightly predictable) twist. However, I found the portrayal of Allie’s husband, Rav, rather unrealistic and incongruous to the actual outcome of the story. On the one hand, Rav is a caring and loving husband who is worried about his wife, but on the other hand he is absent 90% of the time and gets angry with her any time she does something out of character, where a genuinely loving husband might probably be more concerned about his wife’s wellbeing. This made sense for the plot, but it was difficult to match the two up when the book ended, which I do feel is a reflection of the writing more than anything else.

I also found the pacing a bit slow. Allie seemed to spend the majority of the book stressing and feeding her baby. The actual plot developments could probably have fitted into just a couple of chapters, while the rest is fairly repetitive background noise. Overall, I thought it was good, but it could have been a lot better.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all of this author's previous books, but debated whether to read this one or not, as I don't appreciate fantasy/supernatural or witchcraft in this case. However I decided to give it a go and hope it didn't affect the reality of the plot too much.

The story itself was exciting and gripping, and I did enjoy it, but there were some threads of the plot that left me wondering....

I'm glad I read this book, but it is my least favourite of all the authors books so far.
