'One For Sorrow' is an exceptional read from Fields. I love the Luc Callanach series anyway so was excited to get started but wow Fields really blew me away with this one.
The plot is so tight, jam packed with action and also gruesome and heart-wrenching in places. I really went on a rollercoaster of emotions whilst reading this but oh my was I gripped. Nothing is included for shock value, everything weaves together to form a perfect, scintillating and terrifying plot.
I always enjoy catching up with characters I already know and like so it was great to be back with Luc, Ava and co to see the developments in their lives and during this investigation. The new characters are strong additions and I felt for them and their story. There are some really hard hitting moments during this read and they are written beautifully.
'One For Sorrow' is an exceptional read and one that I will not be forgetting in a long time. The ending is spectacular as well. This is a must read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for an advance copy.

Great book that will make you wonder when the other shoe will drop. It was a thriller to the max and I loved every second of it.

This was my first time reading a book from the author but I am delighted to say I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more books from the writer in the future

I love this series. The unpredictability of this one in particular was great. This one read as high stakes and kept the unknown until it was revealed. There is a great balance between the detective work and the personal lives of the characters. It is expertly weaved so it does not take from the mystery/murders, but enhances it. It is always an interesting read that I need to finish.

Helen Fields has mastered the unexpected ending. That was a messed up story, there were so many twists and I loved the alternating story lines. Now I need to go read the first 6 books in the D.I. Callanach series. Looking forward to reading more of Helen's work in the future.

Another fabulous read by Helen Fields. The final book (#7) in the DI Luc Callanach series and a real cracker of a read to end on.
Edinburgh is in the grip of a serial bomber and no-one seems to able to explain the random victims and horrendous methods.

There is also a ‘Before’ thread interwoven amidst the investigation, which in itself holds the readers interest. Put the two together and (excuse the pun) you have an explosive read!

The characters appeared as real people to me, people I cared about. The story holds the reader entranced, with such clear imagery that I was totally transported to the settings.

This is an exciting read, a book for the reader to lose themselves in, with tense situations, considerable danger and pulse elevating action.

This was captivating from page one to the end. I'm a huge fan of the author, so very familiar with her books. I'm not sure how she does it, but each book is great, yet the next one always gets even better. This one is no exception.

This storyline was huge. A lot of it totally shocked me. Obviously, I highly recommend this book.

I'm dying for the next book.

Whilst I ramble incoherently here, I have to add that I’m really unsure how a written review will do this book justice. Please just trust me when I say – THIS IS A MUST READ.

OMG I adore Helen Fields . I was obsessed with this book from start to finish. She never, ever, ever disappoints .
It has it all suspense, action, great characters and a heart pounding , breakneck paced storyline that is excellently written and with a cliff hanger ending and twisting reveals that left my pulse racing and my jaw hanging.. The before and present stories moved the story on perfectly and kept me guessing how it would all come together to complete the puzzle.
I would highly recommend it as a real page turner of a thriller laced with police procedural and packed full of body shocker surprises.. Helen Fields books are brilliantly written, leave your nerves frayed and the sense that you just can’t wait to get your hands on her next book.

Not for me. I had to DNF with in 100 pages. I could not get into the story. It was a slow burn crime fiction and that is just not what I like

Enjoyment: 5
Total rating: 4.71

This is the 7th book in the D.I. Callanach series and my first one. Side note to thank Fields for not spoiling previous books. I love when books in a series can be read in any order without spoilers for earlier ones. I plan on going back and reading them in order because the main characters are so well-developed. I would love to follow their journey.

Fields has a talent for writing real stories with real people. Her understanding of the criminal justice system makes the reader feel like they are reading an actual case report.

We have two timelines and seemingly two separate cases, one of which is a brutal SA trial. Fields didn't shy away from exposing the victim's traumatic trial experience and how much room for improvement still exists in the system. With that said, everything was handled with so much care and caution.

I highly recommend One for Sorrow.

I genuinely spent half of this book with my heart in my mouth. The tension on every page was almost palpable with the knowledge that at any time one or more of Ava's team could be fatally injured. This all lead to a dramatic climax with a frustrating cliff hanger that left me reeling. I will be eagerly awaiting the next book with bated breath..
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

That was a scorcher of a read! Ava and Luc are back for the best book yet of their compelling series. Fully satisfied and fully realized, one for sorrow involves a serial bomber and a slew of interesting suspects and compelling characters on the investigative teams. Exciting, heart pounding and ultimately a tragic didn’t have to happen story of when justice frequently goes wrong.

Phew! What a read, this book is part of a series. I haven’t read the others, and not disadvantaged by just reading this one stand alone.

Hooked from page 1! Thank you.

Thanks netgalley and Helen Fields for this terrific book could not put it down, it’s definitely a winner.
Detective Chief inspector Ava Turner had a huge task to uncover, who was brutally killing people on her watch. Their tongue was being cut out and had bombs attached to them, why were they being killed what was the motive.
I never guessed the ending, and cannot write to much as do not want to give any of this terrific book away.
Shame I cannot give it double stars this book deserves it.
