This was really intense! I picked this completely based on the title / cover / genre so I didn't really know what to expect. I was hooked from the very first page and absolutely flew through it until about half way, where I felt it began to drag a little - I just wanted to know the things that were being alluded to. That being said, the last 25% or so it really picked up again and was really gripping. I enjoyed the way the chapters switched between then and now and found this easy to follow. I would read more from this author.

I loved this debut thriller by Alex Stone! I can relate to this book 100% and Jess's mom problems. I really felt for Jess and kept second guessing everything that was happening since her mother was reminding her of her “faulty memory”. I was captivated from the first chapter and was determined to finish it in two days. So many psychological twists. This is a definite must read --- the ending was jaw dropping!!

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I will be posting my review on instagram @thrillersandcoffee

Very twisted and toxic relationship between a controlling single mother and her only naive gullible daughter. However, when Jess, the daughter, starts dating Adam, Mamma Abigail is not too happy. When Adam suddenly disappears a series of twisted plots begins.

I liked the book but Jess was a bit annoying. No adult daughter would put up with her mother's degrading her. Great twist at the end but then just fell flat.

Brilliant! A very interesting book that explores the relationship between an extremely controlling parent and a daughter who has no idea how much she is being manipulated. Highly recommended.

This psychological thriller is perfect for fans of toxic mother-daughter relationships. Jess’s dad has been gone since she was young, and she and her mom, Abigail, have been on their own ever since. Abigail controls Jess’s every move through subtle manipulation – what she wears, where she goes, who she dates – making sure that Jess’s world essentially revolves around her mom. This classic gaslighting is highly effective at keeping Jess off balance and in line, until Jess meets and falls in love with Adam. Her new love has her finally questioning her unhealthy relationship with her mother… until Adam goes missing and is presumed dead. And Jess is the police’s #1 suspect.

I enjoyed this quick and easy read. The relationship between Jess and Abigail is unsettling, and the narrative will have you wondering if Jess is a victim, a suspect, or both. There were some decent twists and turns; I easily saw most of them coming, but it’s still a good story overall.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me an advance copy of this book.

This is one of the most twisted books I've ever read. Despicable and unreliable character. A brilliant psychological thriller xx

Fabulously creepy thriller! Throughout this book the reader is kept guessing as to whether Jess is a reliable narrator or not - she's not even sure herself. Her mother is an unpleasant woman whose character will stay with me a long time. Lots of wonderful twists and turns as Jess's past is gradually revealed. Very cleverly written book - a wonderful debut.

A mother-daughter thriller for the ages! I could not get enough of the POV of this book, do you trust it? Is it reliable? The constant guessing kept me on my toes, and the twists and turns take you on the ride of your life. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Jess never does anything without her mum's approval - This includes the clothes she wears, the job she does and the man she falls in love with. Abigail is determined to keep Jess to herself and will see off anyone who tries to get near her. The book explores a toxic relationship between mother and daughter, how small digs and carefully selected scenarios all work towards undermining Jess. I did guess the ending but that didn't detract from the story.

Overall, I enjoyed The Perfect Daughter. While I was able to figure out quite a lot of the twists, I found myself still wanting to continue reading. It was well-paced, and Jess was the perfect unreliable narrator, making the reader question everything she says/believes. I would say it's a great holiday/vacation or summer read.

A brilliant plot about the toxic relation between a mother and daughter, this book had me totally wrapped up in it's sinister grips.

Jessie Harper may be a 30-year old contracts assistant at a law firm but she still looks up to her mother, Abigail, for approval on everything - from her clothes and her job to her boyfriends and even her weekend plans. While Abigail has convinced Jessie that she is unlovable and is incapable of making her own life choices, Jessie believes that her mother is only looking out for her, like how parents usually do. When Jessie's boyfriend Adam goes missing, she is under suspicion for his suspected murder. Once again, Abigail steps up to sort out the mess that Jessie has gotten herself into, or so she thinks.

Honestly, IMO, this book should be renamed to 'Gaslighting 101.' The extent of manipulation and coercive control highlighted throughout the plot is simply pure evil. While I find it hard to believe that a parent could be this cruel, the absolute lack of confidence and agency that is depicted through the character of Jessie reveals an indepth research into abuse victims.

The narrative alternates between the past and the present giving glimpses into Jessie's life and the circumstances that made her into the shell of a person that she is now. While much of the story is predictable, the plot twist makes you finally heave a breath of relief for the protagonist.

Overall, a fast-paced and gripping read.

The Perfect Daughter by Alex Stone is a good read. It starts out slowly as a relationship between a mother and a daughter and turns that on its head. With some romance thrown in, we see the main character Jess begin to slowly change. What that means for her, her mom and the trajectory of her life took up several hours of my reading time. I did expe t some of the twists in the book, but not all. A very entertaining read that will have you rushing towards the end.

Jess has always tried to please her mother. She only wears clothes that Abigail approves and only dates men that mother thinks are suitable. After all Abigail is only protecting her daughter. When Jess meets Adam, Abigail does not approve, and Jess is caught between mother and Adam who thinks that Abigail is just trying to control her grown daughter's life, and Abigail who says that he is not at all suitable for Jess.
Then Adam goes missing and the police seem to be very interested in Abigail.
This thriller is intriguing and flows well. I thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Totally unnerving! Talk about dysfunctional parenting - I kept turning the page hoping she would figure out what her mother was up to, so read it in a day! Definite trigger for those who may have grown up with a narcissistic mother - portrayed to the hilt.

This novel had me hooked. I loved all the twists and turns, and secrets and revelations throughout. With a huge twist at the end that was shocking and surprising, I did not see that coming. I mean I suspected something like it to happen but not at the level and extent that it did, and I love that! I love when a book surprises me like that, and this book does exactly that!

A woman who is so attached and dependent on her daughter. A daughter who is caught up in the webs of her mother's life, feeling trapped in the sense that she feels she cannot live her own life or make her own decisions, as her mother pretty much dictates the path of her own life. Will her mother approve of this? What would her mother do? What will her mother say? The mother-daughter relationship in this novel is definitely not healthy, and is dependent on one another, I find this added to the suspense and mystery of the novel - will the daughter ever go against what her mother says and finally live her own life? Or will she always do as her mother says? And why is her mother even like this at all?

An interesting and addictive novel that I loved! Well done. I look forward to reading more of your titles.
