WOW!!!!
As we know from Ali Vali's Beneath The Waves. The planet Atlantis was in peril due to the men that ran it to near destruction.
Ships with women from varying abilities traveled through space and into a black hole looking for the blue planet they hoped would provide them a better place to live.
Queen's over saw the growth for thousands of years on earth and under the waters. They thrived and worked to protect themselves from humans. Until the next ships from Atlantis followed their trail.
Now after nearly killing their future queen Kai Merlin she is on the mend and has reunited with her soul mate, a human Vivien Plamer. Vivien is learning more about the underworld where she may some day rule side by side with Kai.
But it isn't going to be easy as another group is headed to earth to find out what happened to the brother of the one who plans to take over earth and enslaves humans and Atlantaean's.
The fight Kai and Viv must prepare for will be like no other while they also are planning their wedding and must find a way for their families to meet.
The end is coming but for which group?
This is such a riveting story. Full of suspense and love you've come to expect from an Ali Vali book.

I suggest that you read Beneath The Waves first in order to full appreciate Turbulent Waves.

I loved this book! I am a die hard Ali Vali fan and get very excited when I hear she's written another book, especially a sequel. I had no problem picking up where Beneath The Waves left off in 2016 because I've read it at least 10 times. From a fantasy standpoint it would be a magical dream to be Vivien, alas I'm married. The idea of Atlantis is so compelling. This book really captures the love for family, for community and the greater good in the face of hostility. What would we do for those we love? The writing is amazing with vivid descriptions of their underwater world. I feel like the end might have left a tiny window for another book in this series and I will live every day with my fingers crossed hoping that's so. I definitely recommend both books in the series! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Turbulent Waves by Ali Vali is the second book in a fantasy/paranormal series about Kai Merlin, the heir to the throne of Atlantis, and Vivien Palmer, daughter to the owner of an oil company out of New Orleans. I thoroughly enjoyed Beneath the Waves, the first book in the series which introduces us to the main characters and tells the story of how these two meet and fall in love. The second novel begins where the first one ends and continues the tale of how these two make a life for themselves, even with all the dangers and obstacles in their way.

I fell in love with Kai & Vivien in the first novel, and I’ve been looking forward to reading more of their story. They, like all of the author’s main characters, are strong women, vibrant and real (even the Atlanteans). They are already in a relationship in the second book, and their connection grows in this tale. This novel actually has two main settings: New Orleans, which the author knows like the back of her hand, and the city of Atlantis, deep under the Atlantic Ocean. Both settings are well described, but the city of Atlantis, and the descriptions of the underwater scenes are magnificent.

This really is my kind of fantasy with some wonderful other-worldly elements added to our very human world. The romance is definitely an Ali Vali love story (my favorite kind) and there is plenty of action and excitement. This book could probably be read as a standalone, but I wouldn’t suggest it. You need to read both novels in order to get the full flavor of the story and the romance. I’m very glad that I read them that way, and highly recommend both novels.

Turbulent Waves is a romance fantasy novel which follows the story of Kai Merlin, heiress to the throne of Atlantis and earth bound Vivien Palmer, her fiancé. The first book in this series, Beneath the Waves was published in 2016 which seems like such a long time ago. I reread the first book because there are just too many books that I have read in between Beneath the Waves and Turbulent Waves. Turns out Turbulent Waves can be read without a refresher as Vali gives us the back story in sound bites throughout the first half of the book.
The novel follows Kai and Vivien’s weddings in Atlantis and on earth. Kai’s mothers are busy trying to find all the insurrectionists from the unsuccessful attempt on Kai’s life.
The fantasy world building of Atlantis is capably done. However I found all the explanations of why they were able to see or do things there slowed the pacing of the story to a crawl. More than anything this is a romance novel and if you like your romance sappy then this is for you. The angst section was a little over the top then petered out to nothing which was disappointing.
If you are looking for a fluffy romance without any teeth to it then Turbulent Waves is for you.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review.

This was a really good story. I thought it would be hard to keep up with some of the happenings in this series, because this was the second book written by this author, but it was surprisingly easy to understand what was happening from chapter one. I loved all the relationships between the characters, but the one that stood out the most was between Kai Merlin and Vivienne Parker, I thought this was such a beautiful, sweet, and sexy romance. I loved that they met as children and met again as adults to form a romantic connection. The supporting characters made this an even more interesting story to read. I loved the world building, and that the story revolved around the lost city of Atlantis. There was quite a bit of action and drama and the underwater scenes were described so vividly that it felt like you were under the ocean and seeing what the characters were seeing for the first time. I actually can't wait to read the first book in this series, just because this second book was so good. I will definitely be interested in what this author writes next, and I would recommend this book to all my friends and family.

I like Ali Vali books, the Cain Casey series is one of my favourite wlw book series despite the genre not being my type. However this book did not land as well as those.

When I requested this on NetGalley I didn't know it was part of a series so I rushed to read the first book and that was... a mess. That book in my opinion was messy, unplanned and confusing. But because it was from 2016 I imagined greatly that this one would showcase the improvement in Vali's writing. It did.

This book was so much easier to read, simpler and just more constructed in general. Definitely the best of the series. However the simple nature of this book is what downgraded it for me.

Turbulent Waves follows the continuation of Kai and Vivien's story. Now expecting a child and engaged the two plan their nuptials, unfortunately an enemy lies in the dark. Daria is the sister of our antagonist from book 1, Steve, but is more extreme and supposedly clever. She plans on taking over Atlantis and then facing the world.

This time around I found myself caring more about Kai and Vivien than the first time but that was not an easy battle. It took a bit for the chemistry to revive and for them to show even the smallest bit of personality. That chemistry was for sure the best part of this book.

When it came to the plot I just found it only reaching the surface level of the potential it held. This was an original plot but the story line was so predictable.

Then there's the disappointment that was Daria. For most the book she was hyped up to be this evil mastermind going to outdo her brother but when the time came for her to face Kai, it was just so anticlimactic.

Every part of this book just worked out too easy. The author had so many avenues to exhaust for entertainment but used none of them. Everything was too straightforward.

Overall and okay read, could've been so much better though.'

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest review.

I loved Ali Vali's last two books and was surprised that this book is a fantasy/paranormal romance. It is actually a sequel to What Lies Beneath from 2016. I haven't read the first book but was easily caught up and read as a stand alone. This starts with the engaged couple Kai and Vivian planning their wedding and looking forward to the birth of their child. Kai Merlin is a mermaid and heir to the throne of Atlantis. Vivian is human and their union is supported by everyone. There isn't a new romance but there is an attack being plotted from Kai's home world which her ancestors left generations ago.

I am not a fantasy reader but was intrigued enough to give it a try. I enjoyed the descriptions of Atlantis and its history. I expected it to be more of a page turner regarding the attack. It didn't seem like it was all that big of a threat. I did enjoy Kai and how very loving and supportive the relationship with Vivian is depicted. Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for an ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review. (3.5 stars)

Have been waiting for this sequel to Beneath the Waves. Was not disappointed. The story continued of Princess Kai and her consort to be Vivien and the threat from the planet of Atlantis. I would perhaps have liked to see the final battle drawn out a wee bit more but that would be my only criticism.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving review.

This was a wonderful story about two different worlds coming together and you see it through the eyes of Kai and Vivien who met as children met again and fall in love and preparing to live the rest of their lives together.

I love how the author dig into the mythology of Kai world and how it’s woven in and didn’t overlap the love story between the MCs. I can’t wait for the next book I’m really hoping for another Septa and Keegan story.

Ali Vali is one of my favorite authors! Turbulent Waves is fantastic.

The story picks up between a pregnant Vivien and Kai. Vivien come to learn the truth about Kai's origins and it's a beautiful story about accepting those different from you with love. While the story is wonderful and I enjoy Vivien and Kai so much, the author included quite a bit of mythology into the beautiful story. Kai's world is explored and the impending pregnancy is woven into the story. Overall a great read!
