We loved this book on Greek Gods for Kids! I am a huge fan of Greek Mythology, and was so excited for this opportunity to introduce it to my baby, too. I like that it is so educational, while still being so fun to read! My baby loved the art in this book, and I liked the educational value -- it is a great book because it makes learning history fun and easy! We are so happy to add this to our collection of baby books.

While I did enjoy this I do not think kids would enjoy it. It seemed too long and complicated for kids and if I was a kid I probably would have gotten bored very quickly. I enjoy greek mythology in general so I enjoyed this but again this just seems too complex for younger kids (which the book is marketed for).

My husband is a big Greek mythology fan and enjoyed added this book to our bedtime story collection. I enjoyed how it had intros to the goddesses and gods as well as stories.

I thought this book would be great for my niece and nephew, but it doesn’t seem geared towards kids. I don’t think I would recommend this book.

I read this with my 6 year old and it was a wonderful introduction to Ancient Greek mythology. It was exciting to share this new world with my child, revisit old tales and learn some new ones in a child-friendly format.
I liked how it explored the construct of the gods and goddesses and then delved into the stories. It also explored the Ancient Romans deities and how they were heavily borrowed from the Greek. The artwork was lovely and really enhanced the stories. The language used was quite advanced so this book would be great for older children to read by themselves, or in my case, read along with your child. I think I've started an interest in my child now and would love to expand on this and explore other mythology tales with them

Alot of work has gone into creating this detailed, informative book for children about the Greek Gods. The pictures are bright and the author covers a great deal of ground which can be read in manageable chunks. For teachers and parents wanting to upgrade their knowledge a little this could prove a useful reference. As a historian and storyteller for me there was something missing in these retellings.

As a children’s text on Greek mythology, this book was effective. It gave an overview of all the major gods and myths, and broke it down to its simplest (and most PG) forms. There were a few typos, and I also found some of the illustrations lackluster. Some were great, and some were not, and I felt that some of the stories were like that too. Some I learned something new I had not known about a story or a god, but some left important pieces out that I thought would have been there.

Greek Gods for Kids by Monica Roy, which I received from NetGalley for review, is an illustrated introduction to the Olympian pantheon and a few of the most enduring narratives and heroes associated with it.

I enjoyed the strong lines and bold colors of the illustrations and found the content to be fluidly organized, effectively capturing the interconnectedness of the stories. The author also captures the gods’ dualities and complexities, neither over-simplifying nor being heavy-handed. A few typographical errors were noticeable, perhaps to be expected as my edition was an uncorrected proof.

Two features of this book made it stand out for me among anthologies of Greek mythology for children:

It foregrounds that the myths were composed and transmitted orally, which has resulted in multiple versions of similar stories. Roy mentions this repeatedly when recounting myths, pointing out that the version presented is a favorite or most well-known version, not necessarily the “most true” one.

It differentiates between Greek and Roman mythology without privileging one over the other. Roy acknowledges that Greek mythology influenced Roman mythology but that the two are not the same. Similarly, Roy acknowledges that the myths have had an enduring influence and that we continue to engage with and enjoy them, but this does not mean that we are participating in “the same” tradition.

I would adopt this book for use with young readers as a conversation starter on myth and culture.

This book is a wonderful guide for kids & Adults on Greek Mythology. This is something you will have to learn at one point while in school. This book explains everything in a much simpler way so that you can understand Greek mythology better! Would make a great gift for kids also!

I would like to extend my thanks to NetGalley and the author for sending me an e-arc of this book to review.

GREEK GODS FOR KIDS by MONICA ROY was a pleasant surprise when I read it. I adored the illustrations used throughout the book and loved reading the stories. I liked how the book was structured: first, there's an overview and introduction to Greek mythology as a whole, then it goes into introductions of each characters, followed by one or two infamous stories about the gods. This allowed for readers to be able to find a comfortable stopping point before continuing with their day. It was explained simply enough to peak the attention of readers but also to get them curious to learn more elsewhere. Even though there are many paragraphs used, they weren't unnecessarily long or detailed which could intimidate readers. The chapters were short and easy to read, allowing readers the opportunity to comfortably read the book in smaller portions on their own time. I felt that it was easy to follow along and understand, which will be great for those of a younger age (the targeted audience.) Mythology is something many discover and fall in love with in their younger years but sometimes may have some difficulty understanding due to some sources explaining things in a complicated way or not including the full story to make things easier for readers.

It's definitely one I would recommend to friends and family that are looking for something to reference or to begin with. My only complaint at the moment is I wish there was more!

🏹Fun short tour of essentials of Greek mythology🏛🔱

This quick read with short, individual chapters about each of the major Greek gods and some of the legendary heroes like Heracles and Perseus, was a fun way to reacquaint myself with Greek mythology. The writing itself was succinct, the chapters' opening illustrations well-done, often striking, reminding me a bit of an art nouveau style.

Although there were some grammatically awkward phrases, in general I think it's an attractive, basic but informative way to introduce pre-teens to the subject without going too down in the weeds. Once it peaks their interest, they will need to reach for other accounts to get the full story for the Trojan wars, for example.

Unlike many books detailing the adventures of the Greek gods, this account leaves out the violence and the promiscuous side of the Greek legends. Very suitable for a young readership.

This is one adult who enjoyed it and reached the end wanting more!

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

To be honest this is a great book for not only kids but also adults who wish to read a simplified introduction to Greek Mythology.

The book covers basics; importance of Mythology for Greeks and Greek Gods. What I liked the most was that there was one incident or story about every God that portrayed the main features of their character which made it easier to remember them.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for a copy of this book.

Although I have read most of the myths previously, this book is well worth my time. The storytelling is simple yet actractive and the illutrations are just so stunning, not to mention that the author included some of my favorite myths into this book.

Though the myths in this books are simplified, I believe it does encourage readers to do some research to learn more about Greek mythology. I would highly recommend this book to someone who is new to ancient Greece and Greek mythology.

I'm sorry to give this book such a low rating. But honestly, I really feel it deserves it. I love Greek Mythology and first read it as a kid where I was caught up in the wonder of the story. I think if this had been the book I read as a kid, I probably wouldn't have become so interested.

First, the illustrations are sparse and very poor. They add nothing to the text. As a children's book I definitely expect better.

Second, the writing is not good. To me, it reads like someone read a few books on Greek Mythology, and wrote up a book report. I did not feel like the stories were being told, rather that the information was being regurgitated. It was not engaging in any way. I also did not feel like there was enough description given. For example, in the story about Pandora she writes "All the evils in the world were released from the box: sickness, pain, fear, anger, etc.". I mean come on, you aren't even going to list them all? Some of the wording feels odd for a children's book. In the section about Athena the author writes "Let us remember her intervention when she gave Perseus the polished shield".

Overall, I didn't really enjoy this book and wouldn't recommend it for kids.

Thanks to NetGalley for my ARC

This was an informative book about greek gods, there's a lot of helpful information in there. I think this would be a great primer for kids who are interested in mythology. Knowing about these characters is helpful for understanding a lot of references and a little resource like this could be helpful.

I initially picked this up because of my love for Greek mythology and the like and this was a pretty enjoyable read! Greek Gods for Kids by Monica Roy is meant to serve as a kid-friendly introduction for children to learn about the Ancient Greeks and their mythology. I myself was familiar with most of the content covered in the book but for a young child unfamiliar with most of the myths this would serve as a pretty solid introduction to the world of Greek mythology. With this being Children's Fiction, the writing was a little simple at times but it did convey what it was saying pretty well. I'd definitely recommend this to the target audience!

A fantastic resource for children learning/wanting to learn about Greek mythology. Also a good tool for adults looking to get an introduction to Greek Mythology. With an informative background for each of the key gods and goddesses as well as key tales and beautiful and eye catching illustrations it provides a unique and enchanting learning experience

Pros: I realize that this book is for kids, but as an adult I also enjoyed and learned from it. This year I’ve read several novels that allude to Greek Mythology (e.g., Olympus, Texas). I do not have a deep knowledge of mythology, so I often feel like I’m missing out on completely understanding some books because I do not know the mythology behind them. I thought this book was a fantastic overview and introduction

Cons: This is not really a con but is more a note—I’d suggest kids read this book with adults the first few times because there are some big words and ideas that might be difficult to grasp the first time through. I also found a typo on page 15 – palacbeneath should be palace beneath.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book.

This was a really fun and quick read. It's definitely kid friendly, but also adult friendly. It was really fun reading about all the Greek gods and their adventures in such a quick and simple way. The illustrations also added to the experience. They were vibrant and beautiful!

I am sorry to say, this book is not ready for publishing. There are many spelling errors and the stories are choppy. This book almost feels like it was originally in another language and then translated into English.
The pictures also are not all there. For example, Zeus was described as holding two objects and an eagle near him, not in the picture. Hera looked possessed.
