The Becoming, The Dragon Heart Legacy Book 2, Nora Roberts

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy

Book one was fun, introducing new people and new worlds. Now we're on to the middle book and its consolidating all that and setting us the scene for the bog climax, the fight with the Big Bad, Odran.
I love the village life, the people and the whole settings, but I was really pleased we went to the Capital, the seat of where decisions are made. More new people to meet and of course Shana, Kegan's former lover. She wasn't best pleased at being thwarted, seeing him as her way to power. I love characters like that, where you know there's going to be some underhanded schemes, some snarky comments and a person that isn't letting go easily. Of course poor deluded Keegan thought they were both aware it wasn't a relationship but a mutually satisfying hookup – some people are almost willfully blind when it comes to stuff like that!
The dragons – oh I loved them. Intelligent beings, and a useful form of transport in a world without technology.
There's lots going on in this book, and it was one that didn't grip me in a must-keep-reading style, but which I read over several days. That actually worked well, let me focus on the many things happening, the plots within plots, the magics, and of course the day to day stuff, Marco's cooking and new relationship, Breen's new-to-her family, her book, her and Keenan's relationship – which was at times one step forward and two back. I liked that, liked there were issues on both sides, it made it feel so much more real. There's such a lot packed into this book that reading in several parts let me fully absorb and understand the story better.

Stars: Four, an action packed story, cementing what we learned in book one and setting up for book three.

The Becoming by Nora Roberts

I give this book 4.5 stars

When Breen Kelly makes a leap into the unknown with a summer trip to Ireland in search of her father, little does she know she will find a portal into another world - Talamh - where she will find magic, family and a destiny beyond her wildest dreams

This is book 2 of a trilogy, but can be read as a standalone.
I was swept away by this captivating read.We escape into a wonderful world with dragons, magick, adventure,
romance and an evil god.
l love Breen and how we see her character progressing..The author has such a lyrical writing style which l really enjoy. Breen is accompanied along her journey by Marco ,Keegan and Bollocks (the dog) This book has all the elements of a fascinating fantasy series which l highly recommend!
With thanks to Netgalley,Nora Roberts and Little Brown Book Group UK, Piatkus for my chance to read and review this book

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Awakening" (book 1 of "The Dragon Heart Legacy"), and "The Becoming" has only strengthened my liking of the characters, setting, and the story. This was a fun, fast, and easy to read book, with the great writing we all expect from Nora Roberts, and this was a particularly difficult book to set aside to do the necessary things for every day life. I can't wait for the next book!

My thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.

This is the second book in the series but I hadn't read the first one. The thing with Nora Roberts books you can generally work out the plot.
Set in Ireland and an alternate fantasy world where magic, fairies, demons dragons and more live.
Breen has developed her magical skills but is still learning. Hercrelayionship with releases of the world Keegan is developing asviscthatcwith her newly discovered family and friends.
As they prepare for the coming battle with the demon God Odran who is determined to invade and conquer the world and whilst doing that kill Breen who is also his granddaughter..
A book that will appeal to the many Roberts fans as she combines her distictive take on magic, fantasy and romance.

The Becoming is the second book in the Dragon Heart Legacy series. The series starts with The Awakening, which describes Breen, who has been repressed by her mother all her life finding herself, realising that she is a mix of witch, human, fairy and god, discovering her powers in the mythical world of Talamh, and finding out that the god Odran a.k.a. grandpa is trying to such dry her powers. The Becoming continues from there, shows Breen "becoming" more powerful, includes multiple sub-plots (some needed, some not so much) and end with a mini battle with Odran's forces. It has the usual mix of Nora Robert's typical characters, some of whom you would like as your best friends and family. A small gripe with the plot that I had was that despite the series name, not much is included about Breen's bonding with her dragon. In fact, more effort is put into her bonding with her dog! I hope the next book in the series will include more on her dragon.

The books in this series are not really standalone, so it is annoying to wait for the next one to come out as you lose the thread of the story and the connections formed with the characters. I hope the next book in the series is released soon, can't wait for it now!

Having read the first book I had high hopes. The second book delivered on this and even exceeded the expectations. It was even better than the first. It was building on relationships newly formed at the end of the first book which was a long awaited happenings and introducing new characters to further bond one side with the other. Really enjoyable boob as always by roberts

How does Nora do it? For years I've asked myself this. She writes in different genres with rarely a miss. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series. I can't wait for the next book to come out. The characters are engaging and believable. Yes, I highly recommend this book and series.

The world of The Becoming is full of magic and magical creatures. Nora Roberts as usual managed to create an amazing world and complex characters.

I couldn’t stop reading. The Becoming starts exactly where the previous book, The Awakening finished and, in this book, we get more of Marco, which is great, since he very important for Breen. We also get to explore a little more about the Talamh and other magical creatures.

I can’t wait for the third and final book to see how the story end. Nora Roberts wrote an amazing story as usual and I can’t wait to see how see concludes this trilogy.

The second of a trilogy. Taking us back to Irekabd. It can be read as a stand alone and not spoil the tale but I love the continuity of the story. Looking forward to the third instalment but really enjoyed the escapism of the book.
Characters become more real and various relationships develop and deepen.
A master at keeping the reader engrossed with reality suspended Nora Roberts does not disappoint.

Book 2 in this new trilogy is everything I love about a Nora Roberts book - great plot and characters, nicely paced, kept me hooked from start to finish and desperate for the final instalment. She brings an authenticity to the story, descriptions of the worlds her characters live in spring into life, I want a friend like Marco (not just because he can cook!), a dog and dragon like Breens and family like hers too. Roll on the final chapter.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Nora Roberts never lets you down. Good fighting evil with American and Irish characters intermingling in a fantasy world to beat back a big bad. as this is the middle of the trilogy it fleshes out the world and characters more before the big final battle to come. Obviously I can't wait until the last one.
