A good read and a very promising start to a new series. I enjoyed the plot and Harlow's character. Looking forward to more!

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this arc!

This book didn’t hold my attention the way I would’ve liked it to. The writing was simple which I did enjoy but it wasn’t grabbing me and I didn’t feel myself reaching for the book

I came across this author by accident, I thought I'd try the first book. I wasn't disappointed, brilliant story excellent characters, and I'm looking forward to book 2. I really hope there are a few books to this series.

Find Me in the Dark is sooo good it had all the elements I love in a police procedural m. A strong NC with likable supporting characters and I few I could definitely not like as Harlow fights against the bias that Harley suffers in the workplace. I love that fir the most part it focused on the murder investigation. I am very curious about the ending although I know Harley wanted to do it aI’m not sure she did so that leaves me very curious about what happened that night and will have me looking for more in the series. Overall a good read it follows a narrow perspective on who would commit the rules of crime’s in the investigation so I would love to see Harlow move past that as even tho that can often be the case I love an investigative style that explores all options with an open mind. But it did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I do recommend the book solid murder mystery.

I read a lot of murder series and even if the murders are complex, interesting and dark, if the character aren’t good it ruins the book for me. I would have gave this book 5 stars if it weren’t for the last two pages, I did not want it to be taken into that direction. I did like both of the main characters and their complicated , dark, interesting pasts. I liked the murders and how it wasn’t easy to guess. I will read the next book, but I am unsure how I will like it with that new development,

I love police procedural books but i felt like something was missing from this one or not completely accurate. I just wanted a little more but I’m not sure what exactly.

I did like the relationship between the two partners and the mystery but the reveal was a little lackluster and i wanted more about the father and what he did. I also found the misogyny a little overplayed and it would pull me out of the story a bit. I did like the cliff hanger leading to the next book tho.

Complex thriller with stories within stories. Lot of background to introduce this new detective and I look forward to seeing how she develops. Other characters were good tho a bit typical,is misynogistic male detectives.

Find me in the dark is book one is the Detective Harlow Durant series.

When a girl is found dead in the snow banks Harlow and her team get to work searching for her killer. After they work out who she is they ate given two completely different opinions on the victim. When another girl is found thawing in another snow Bank Harlow and her team are worried they have a serial killer on her hands. How many more girls will be killed before they stop the killer?

I really enjoyed this book, having read a book previously by this author I was expecting great things and that was delivered . I’ve always found books that are centred around the FBI investigations a little difficult to interact with however find me in the dark made it an enjoyable experience and made the storyline easy to follow.

I honestly had no idea who the killer was and even by the time we got to the end of the book I had worked out some of the links between the victims I was still unsure who the killer would be. That in itself is a great sign of a great crime book for me as usually I can guess the endings within the first one or two chapters so find me an adult was a page turner from start to finish for me.

The character detective Harlow was an interesting one, especially with her background as her father is a convicted serial killer, it makes it understandable why she decided to become a cop as she had been the one who turned in her father to begin with. I really enjoyed reading her history as well as being part of the journey of investigation, it was action packed from beginning to end.

All in all I’m very excited too read this character develop over future books and cannot wait for the second one in this series will stop the author has a way with words that keeps you guessing from beginning to end, even if you do manage to guess who the killer is working out the reason is just as exciting. Therefore would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys crime fiction/crime thrillers and a a bit of gore. I therefore rate this book 4🌟.
Thank you to netgalley, Bookouture and Dea Poirier for the ARC of find me in the dark in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

I was hooked from page one. There is something about this book that you can’t put down. Something that draws you to the main character. Boy does she have a vibe. I have no idea where the author is going with this series but I’m in.

Harlow Durant is a badass who still manages to feel human, as she is not perfect, with plenty of her own demons in the past she's still dealing with in the present, as her father was a serial killer. As part of her own atonement for his sins, she's now trying to solve her own murder cases. This book is based in the bone chilling Northern states, and would be called a police procedural with a claustrophobic vibe that keeps you turning the pages.. Harlow must fight to stop a killer while in danger herself.

A body of young woman was found burying in snowplow at Plattsburgh. Detective Harlow Durant was transferred from New York Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist the case. She has spent years running from her past.

But when another body was found with the same modus operandi, Harlow believed her convicted serial killer father was haunted her life again.

This is a slow burner with lots of intriguing characters. I have a high expectation on serial killer, I give 3.5 ⭐ on this. But the ending was good!

Thanks to @netgalley and @bookouture for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

An excellent crime thriller with a flawed, slightly unreliable main character. Living in the shadow of her father’s sins, Detective Harlow Durant, attempts to atone for his actions by dedicating herself to a career in law enforcement. The novel intertwines her internal and external struggles with that of an active murder investigation. Though the narrative does not offer much in “shock and awe”, it is a great police procedural and introductory book to the series. Highly recommended.

Thank you to #Netgalley for the ARC which was read and reviewed voluntarily.

Dea Poirier's new series about Detective Harlow Durant does not disappoint. Detective Durant is the only woman in her department, something that the local cops won't let her forget. That, though, is not the only problem that Harlow must manage; she is the daughter of a serial killer. This is the reason she never stays too long in one place because that kind of a secret is hard to live down. Harlow is tough and very good at her job. As she investigates a series of murders, she demonstrates her skill while also wrestling with her internal demons. Does she have the same murderous potential as her father? The book is exciting and leaves me wanting to see what's next for Harlow.

Oh what a thrilling read this was. I did not want it to end even as I was turning the pages wanting to know what happened next. This completely transported me. Very deserving five stars.

The first book in the Detective Harlow Durant series, Find Me in the Dark, follows Detective Harlow Durant, a homicide detective, who is new to the Plattsburgh area of New York. She arrives as a young woman's body is found in a snowbank and it is unknown how long this body has been hidden by the snow for. This results in Harlow spending hours upon hours scouring missing person's reports and finds the victims, a college student. However, through this search, there are differing reports about the girl's life between home and college life. Harlow knows this secret life all too well, having to constantly hide her past and her true identity as the daughter of a convicted serial killer. As time continues on, more young women's bodies are found and now Harlow is hunting another serial killer, but how are the victims linked and why would the killer kill these young women?

I'm slowly getting into more crime and thriller books, but I'm still trying to figure out the books that I know will be a successful read for myself, so I saw this book as a chance to to figure out if the classic crime serial killer kind of book was for me. This one definitely was a hit with myself. I did find myself either struggling to read this or absolutely flying through it. But I think when I did struggle to read this, it was more due to the fact that this book is relatively heavy in certain parts. Even being heavy in certain parts, it was a fast read and it got you hooked early on.

Detective Harlow is partnered with Lucas, who we find out is the only decent male character in the book, with the other male police officers in Plattsburgh to be absolute trash humans and incredibly misogynistic and disgusting towards Harlow and also Lucas. This is a relatively strong theme of the book, with the women in the area only being treated as worthy if they are rich or married to a rich man, then they are worthy, otherwise no women are taken seriously, as shown by the missing person's reports and the way that the police officers talk to some of the college students, off page. This leads to the other police officers not being any help whatsoever during the serial killer cases, rather being a hinderance at every possible chance.

Throughout the story, another major aspect was Harlow using her past experiences with an incredibly dysfunctional family and how her father was arrested for his crimes when she was fourteen. The book follows the narrative of Harlow, but also goes back into the past to begin to delve into the background story of Harlow and her relationship with and between her parents. This story line doesn't go into great detail, but hopefully with future books, we continue to learn more about Harlow's past as I loved this time jump into the past.

Dea Poirier's writing style is definitely a style I love reading, as I just love books and writing styles that go into so much depth and visual imagery of the scenes that make the reader feel the scenes of the book so vividly. I have again found a new author that I will continue to read and seek out their books in the future, and can't wait for the next book in the series so I can return to reading more about Detective Harlow and hopefully learning more about her past and also I want more Lucas and hopefully his background and past too.

Thank you very much to Bookouture for providing me with a copy of this novel and allowing me to participate in the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
