Oh I do love the urban sketching books and this is no disappointment! Some great tips and the art is amazing. It definitely helps with difficult perspectives and how to get drawings

The Urban Sketching Handbook: Panoramas and Vertical Vistas is a good new addition to the series (which I have just now realized the acronym for is TUSH!). In this case, the book focuses primarily on wide or long compositions which play with proportion and perspective. It's not so much step-by-step instructional book, but like the other handbooks, packed full with tips, artist perspectives and drawings, and full of inspiration. Definitely something to pick up, especially if you've been eying picking up an accordion style sketchbook.

I very much enjoyed this book, as I have all of the other titles in the Urban Sketching series. This volume addresses perspective, which is a difficult concept to master. The book is concise, but filled with excellent examples. It doesn't offer step-by-step instructions, but rather offers unique and creative techniques by a host of different artists. This book is a great reference guide for artists at any skill level.

A really practical and easy to understand book - it is not a big book but it is packed with a lot of information. The book is divided into a series of information through examples and is separated by topic such as :- Art Materials, Usual Perceptions, Learning from the Masters, Panorama Views, Vertical Vista and Architecture and all followed by suggestions to explore in individual project.

Confession: I'm not an artist. I'm more of a wannabe artist. I wanted to review this to get an "insider perspective" of the art journey, so my review might not be clear sighted enough for actual artists! But I appreciate books like this on Netgalley - thanks for adding it.

Mário Linhares, designer, urban sketcher, and arts educator presents his book "The Urban Sketching Handbook Panoramas and Vertical Vistas. Techniques for Drawing on Location from Unexpected Perspectives" which is one from the "Urban Sketching Handbook" series published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry. The book is divided into seven section which cover: 1) Art Materials, 2) A Visual Perspective, 3) Learning from the Masters, 4) Panorama Views, 5) Vertical Vistas, 6) Architecture, and 7) Taking it Further. The book is very thorough in the number of paintings presented but also since Linhares is commenting, not only his own paintings but also that of others or adding their comments to the sketchings which they did. It also lists the materials used for the specific paintings and includes tips and a list of contributors.
The books goal is to offer "a bounty of lessons, tips, and techniques for sketching on location for everyone venturing to pick up a pencil and capture their world" (p. 4). This is not a step-by-step guide but the book gives the main ideas how to sketch panoramas and vertical vistas. I highly recommend it for advanced artists but it can also give beginners ideas what to look for.

Perspective can be one of the most challenging skills for those learning to draw...or even those who are undertaking more difficult scenes. This book specifically addresses the use of perspective in panoramic drawings, whether very wide or especially tall. The drawings by the author and other artists are inspiring and informative. The author keeps his pointers simple and user-friendly, and they can really help the reader move forward rapidly. This would be a great gift even for a non-beginner draftsman who could use some inspiration. Again, marvelous drawings - classic and current.

The Urban Sketching Handbook Panoramas and Vertical Vistas is another guide in the classic series. It is full of tips and tricks, and points of interest from a variety of artists. Each one focuses on a different style or key learning point when doing these types of sketches. There are no step by step instructions but you will find lots of pointers for experimentation. It provides lots of food for thought and is great to browse through. It is probably aimed at the more intermediate artist rather than the complete beginner.

I really enjoyed this book. It features a wide variety of kinds of art and artists, instead of focusing on one style or one person's work. It's also unexpectedly philosophical and insightful, featuring all kinds advice about using point of view, color, perspective, etc. to enhance your art. Many pages upon up to include very long landscapes and additional pieces. This was a visually gorgeous read with lots of great advice for beginners or more advanced artists.

There are some solid tips in here, the other 90% are urban sketches and with some commentary. All of these are great, and you can certainly learn from this.
This is absolutely not what I would label as a Handbook, coming from a technical background, though.

Panoramas and vertical vistas are stunning whether on canvas or in a sketchbook. Urban sketchers include these in their sketchbooks to capture the vastness or height of city or country scenes, using both pages of a spread or accordion books that can go on forever!

This installment is another great one for the Urban Sketching Handbook series. You won't find any step-by-step instructions but the author and other contributors give many tips and techniques to paint or draw a successful panorama or vista. All the drawings and paintings, which form the bulk of this book, are great for ideas and inspiration.

As always, it was great to see so many contributors from all over the world -many whose names you will recognize if you are into urban sketching.

All in all, a must-have especially if you already have the other volumes in the series.
