pirates, enemies to lovers, what more could you ask for? I guess one thing is for a little bit more character devlopement, everything was just told to us rather than devloped.

I was really excited by the premise of this story! There was so much going for it, from the concept of the God of the Sea, to the forbidden romance, the the mysterious magic within the heroine herself. I've read a lot of fantasy romances that have similar concepts, but this one really executed it all well. The world-building was lush, distinctive and vivid. It felt like this was a real place that was peopled by real people, and more than just window-dressing for the romantic plot line (a problem I often find in romantasies). I also really liked both of these lead characters. Margrete and Bash both felt like interesting characters with fully realized motivations and drives outside of their growing attraction for one another. Again, this is a problem I often find in these sorts of stories. But here, the conflicts that come between them felt more real and substantial, thus increasing the romantic tension nicely as the story went on. I also really loved the magical elements of the story, particularly as we began to learn more about Margrete and how she connects to everything. I'm definitely excited to check out the next book in this series!

This story was so interesting, so well written, so hard to put down, and I loved it so much, it's really impressive that it’s Katherine Quinns debut, and who doesn’t love a book set by the sea, I definitely do. I thought the plot was really good and the characters well constructed, relatable and go on a good journey developing over the course of the book. I love the romance aspect of the story, forbidden love is always a winner and I love the tension, chemistry and drama involved. It’s so satisfying to read. Highly recommended would give more than five stars if I could amazing

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for free copy in return for an honest opinion

Why have I waited so long to read this??? This was SUPERB! I loved the magic and the romance and just everything in this! Bash is so dreamy especially as his wall shatters under Margrete’s feisty soul!

Enjoyed this book. If you love romance, pirates, & fantasy this book will be right up your ally. The story did seem to drag out at times and I did find myself disassociating from the plot but overall enjoyed the main characters development

This book was a pleasant surprise. The world was incredibly interesting… and the FMC was someone I could easily Empathize with. It’s absolutely a YA Fantasy, but it’s a good one. The world building is phenomenal, and the characters are really interesting. Def some enemies to lovers vibes.. a decent fantasy/mythology setting as well. It reminded me a bit of Danielle L Jensen, actually.

There’s not much spice, like i said its a YA/Na setting for sure.. but the story is really good and reminds me a bit of The Cruel Prince except not with Faeries and set on the sea. The writing was absolutely wonderful and I found myself swept away in the story more than once. Ive grown out of YA/NA a bit in the last few years, and find myself getting irritated with a lot of books that I’d have loved a few years ago now that im reading more Adult fiction/fantasy/romance.. but this one kept me hooked from the start.

While the story took some time to get into with the amount of characters and worldbuilding it was well-worth the time as the story developed. A fun fantasy of epic proportions this book is just the start of a trilogy. A good mix of sea faring pirates, fantasy and romance, this was definitely an enjoyable read!

Firstly, this cover is magical, but not as magical as the story within. The ending was a wild ride, cannot wait to read the sequel!

Unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. The writing was good, and I can see why other people will like this book, but it just wasn’t for me.

It's hard to beat the couple sentence tagline for this book. "One woman chosen by the God of the Sea. A king hellbent on saving his mysterious island home. And a forbidden romance that could destroy them all." That really does sum this up perfectly. The MC Margrete is being forced to marry a wealthy count that she despises. In a desperate attempt to free herself before the wedding, she pleas to the gods to free her. She is tired of having her life ruled by power hungry men. The Sea King, Bash, hears her and answers. But Bash has plans of his own for Margrete. But dark secrets are revealed that pit Bash and Margrete against each other. He is supposed to hate her, so why can't he stop thinking about her?

This is a fast paced adventure, filled with heroes, enemies to lovers romance, and swashbuckling pirates on the high seas. Margrete was a great character who is strong-willed, wants nothing but to control her own destiny. Her actions have consequences she is forced to face down and she does. She is very relatable and I liked watching her grow through her struggles. The romance was great, blending a steamy slow burn with more tense moments. The book started slow but picked up about a quarter of the way through and was a really great read through to the end. With all the feel of a classic tale of Atlantis, this isn't one to miss.

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED the characters. Margrete and Bash are well written and I love their dynamic, drama and interactions. Margrete has an awful life that she cant seem to escape, especially not if she wants to protect her little sister.

I cannot express enough how much I highly enjoyed this book. I will admit it was a bit difficult to get into for the first few chapters but once the story gets going, you get absolutely swept along.

Also, pirates. Very attractive and well written pirates. lol

I was a bit afraid that i was going to dislike it, mainly because i am picky about my pirate-books. I like very very few. But this one, it had it all, amazing chemistry, interesting plot, awesome characters and romance.

This book was a curious thing. I love a good heroine, a pirate story and magical aspects.

The protagonist, Margrete, was a good one (although her name always messes me up) - I loved seeing her grow as a person, grow a backbone and I enjored all her escape attempts, the fact that she was trying to take control over her next steps and future.
The book was pretty slow, though. And while slow tempo books usually make sense, this one just felt like it was dragging. The stakes never seemed that high and the tension needed for a fantasy book just wasn't there.
Sadly, the plot twists were predictable. That may be because I read a lot, or because they were just obvious, I'm not entirely sure.
The worldbuilding, though, the history, the magic aspect and the main conflict, were interesting. Pirates always make everything better.
The romance was okay, considering it was equally sweet and lighthearded and steamy and tense. It just happened too easy and quickly for my liking. I felt like it was supposed to be a slowburn but instead seems more of an insta-love story.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a fun debut for the author. I would've preffered a bit more interconection trhough everything and if the slow tempo was so important, then also to slow down the romance apsect. Also, up the stakes!

This is a voluntary honest review. Thanks to NetGalley for providing the ARC.

Great start to a new series by Katherine Quinn. This book pulled me in right from page and had me up reading late into the night. This book had it all. Pirates, Gods, flawed main characters and romance.
Margarete was an amazing main character. I really enjoyed her journey as she discovered her own inner strength as the story progressed. Book two will be going on my to read list.

I really tried to get into the book because it was about pirates. However, I had a hard time getting into this novel because I could not connect with the characters, and the story started to drag. Still, I recommend this for fans of fantasy and pirates!

Is it sad that The Girl Who Belonged to the Sea has been on my TBR for almost a year? I think it is because I finally found the time to jump into this. While this might be the first book within The Azantian Trilogy, I can already tell you that I'm super excited to jump into the next two books.

In this, you will meet Margrete and Bash. Now I absolutely adored, loved, and cherished these two characters. Seriously, I don't think I've ever fallen so quickly in love with someone after meeting them. It was definitely main character insta-love syndrome and I'm okay with that.

Now Margrete's life sucks. She's constantly abused by her own father and dreams of escaping. The only downside if she leaves, her little sister will be subjected to the torture instead. So, when she's thrown into a random marriage, she doesn't think she will be rescued by some pirates. Handsome pirates that is.

Enter Bash. These two were just peas in a pod. They were so similar to one another it was kind of scary. They are both selfless and grow on one another quite easily. Which, yes, made things very easy to ship them together. The constant push and pull within their relationship made it way too easy to devour. I loved their bantering so much and the sexual tension between them made their chemistry very likable.

In the end, I had so much fun reading this book. Silently kicking myself for waiting so freaking long to jump into this book. If I cross paths with the sequel, I will not hesitate to read it right then and there. Definitely need more books within this series and from Katherine stat!

A very pleasant and intriguing story. I love heroes and the world created by the heroine. I will definitely look for other books by the writer.

I really enjoyed this, and can't wait for the second one!
I'm really interested to see what will happen next. After the ending to this one - which I honestly wasn't expecting (or prepared for) - I was surprised and anxious to get my hands on the next book. I really enjoyed the characters, though I do wish their enemies to lovers plot was drawn out a little more - it passes rather quickly.
Overall, really enjoyed this, and I can't wait for the second one.
