Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead.

I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings.

Anything requested and approved will be read and a decent quality review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Cute little book of weather factoids. Great occasion gift or coffee table book. Probably a wee bit too basic for any weather or number enthusiasts in your life, but one of those books you would find (and read) in holiday accommodation. But if you're buying this, definitely get the book over the kindle /ebook version - there are lots of pictures, graphs and tables that I would have loved to study a bit more but they didn't render in kindle format.

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the copy.

Great and super interesting book for all weather information lovers!

Thank you so much, NetGalley for the ARC

I’m really surprised how much I enjoyed reading this book. I’ve always been passionate about the weather and it’s changes and impacts on different places, so it was a pleasure to read detailed descriptions of every month of the year and the typical weather, moon cycles and all statistical data of temperatures and wind of all parts of the UK.

I also really liked the lists of shocking weather anomalies and problems they’ve caused. I think the book is beautifully made and I’ll definitely buy paper version after I reread the ebook tonight ( I need to make sure I remember all the craziest stuff to show off my knowledge at parties 😂).

Thank you so much, NetGalley, for approving me for this arc. I genuinely had a great time reading it!

In the same way as the Stars Almanac I saw earlier in the year, this provides a clear and concise guide to all the different months of the year and the weather that we might find in those months. It also provides a guide to all the different types of weather, why they occur, when they occur, and why they're limited to certain regions.

It's written in simple language that gets the point across without requiring advanced or existing knowledge of weather, and provides an excellent primer for those wanting to get into meteorology. Well recommended.

I really enjoy a book which takes me through the months of the year and encourages me to reflect on the changes in nature that I often miss because I’m a busy mum of two. The information in this book is organised well and the data for each month is very manageable. My kids loved to hear the upcoming month too, which was great. It also prompted discussion about different types of cloud, thanks to the opening pages.

I like that it sets out some information about the British climate alongside some basic information for those who don’t know much about meteorology (like me!) prior to the month by month section.

I found the range of data for each month to be interesting, and I especially enjoyed the ‘on this day’ segments. The illustrations are also really beautiful (as is the cover) which makes this an informative and pleasant read.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review. I am not gonna lie, I loved it, I loved it so much that I bought a copy for my mum too. If you are a weather nerd (like me) and just love all things weather then this is a book for you. It is based on weather in the Bristish Isles and has tons of weather facts like sunrise and sunset times for 2022; as well as lots of interesting stories about "on this day", going back hundreds of years. It also talks about the weather from 2021 beginning in January. My copy was a little messy, and not always in order, so I can't really comment on how the hardback book looks, but I didn't think the repetition or the messiness detracted from my enjoyment so I can only imagine the hardback copy would be the bees knees. I would be interested in reading other books from this author now. I definitely want to look into some of the storms in more depth. Overall a superb book, read it in one go (like I did) or dip in and out at your leisure. Thank you Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read it.

I found this informative but needed my full concentration. I enjoyed learning new facts but nit an easy read unless you know more about the weather in a scientific context.

This is very similar to the other almanac but I prefered this over the Night Sky Almanac and have bought a copy to share with my weather obsessed teenager. We have just referred to the March section and shall come back to it each month.

A really interesting and very informative book, probably better as a hard copy rather than electronic as it is something you will want to dip in and out of and go back and forth which is not so easy electronically. It gives you both scientific explanations as to how weather happens with some nice historical facts and figures including an on this day section and the weather stats (i.e. max and minimum temperature for each month in 2021). The book is written on a month by month basis and is probably best enjoyed reading a section at a time rather than from cover to cover, This is a book I can see myself buying to give as gifts to others.

Loved this book, i actually want it in hardback :)
It gives good explanation of weather terms, what they are, what they mean and how they work.
The book is split into months as one would expect and this allows the weather data to be set out in an easy to use way alongside traditions for each month and extremes of weather. It all makes for a more interesting way of presenting the years weather
It has taught me lots and I will definitely be checking back on it for info

I really liked the Weather Almanac. I would like to have it in hard cover though instead of digitally as I would find it easier to read the chapters each month and could look back with ease.

The book is quite easy to read and I really enjoyed the weather history items for each month. The explanation of why we get different weathers with each season adn what to look out for are great for weather watchers. It will be great to read each chapter once again at the start of each month and then look out for weather patterns during the year.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC Copy.

i had no idea what this would be like going into it but i found it really interesting, oddly calming, as it took me through the months. i'm assuming you're meant to read it each month but i stormed through it all, absorbed a lot about clouds, and yeah felt very calm

What a really interesting book for the coming year. I found all the little historical snippets really good to know and I liked that the book gave regional information that explained how the weather worked on and in the landscape. It gives good explanation of weather terms, what they are, what they mean and how they work.

I loved this little book packed with information about the weather; weather facts, weather data and weather stories. Organised in month order. Great to pick up and read a little at a time, really interesting and well presented. One slight niggle is when, on page 22, it refers to the South Riding of Yorkshire. There is a North, East and West Riding, but no South Riding. A great book to give as a gift.

Weather Almanac 2022 by Storm Dunlop has twelve chapters focussing on each month of the year. January – June remind us of the weather highlights of those months in 2021 while July – December cover the second half of 2020. There are several other chapters, including one about the regional climates of Great Britain. I would have got the book for the Introduction and that chapter alone. I have never read such a succinct, clear explanation of why the UK’s weather tends to be as it is in each part of the country. For example, sandy soil and chalk subsoil tend to lost heat at night, leading to ground frost at any time of the year.

I really enjoyed the monthly chapters. As well as a reminder of the weather in that month from July 2020 – June 2021, Dunlop also tells us about famous weather events in the past, e.g. the Great Storm of 1703. We’re told about the extreme temperatures the UK has seen, e.g. Scotland’s 18.3°C in January 2003, and what the typical weather is for that month – and why. That’s what distinguished the book for me: the detailed explanation of, for example, how a high pressure area causes a flow of air. If that crosses the North Sea, the air will gain moisture and may fall as snow on the eastern coast because when humid air is forced to rise, e.g. to get over mountains, the change in pressure causes the moisture to be deposited. When that now-drier air descends on the other side of the mountain, it warms faster than it cooled – the föhn effect. I felt I understood the weather so much better after reading this book.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book and I’ve made a note to re-read the relevant monthly chapter at the start of each month in 2022.

Much like Dunlop's other books that focus on the skies, this weather almanac gives us a detail and in depth review of the year, by month and does it with statistics and figures that for anyone with a fascination for anything meteorological would appreciate. Each month gives us maps on minimum temperatures, sunrises and sunset and moonrise and moonset times as well, giving a thorough view and understanding of the weather.

I appreciate how with this book in the introduction we are given the regional climates across the UK, that gives a baseline I think for the weather you find up ahead in the book but also contains a guide to different cloud formations. Each chapters ends with interesting facts about the weather and the book concludes with a chart of The Beaufort Scales and Twilight diagrams that makes this such a perfect guide for the year ahead.

It's nice to have a bit of warning when it comes to British weather, as sometimes it feels incredibly unpredictable, I have woken up with sun and come home with an umbrella, a book like this is definitely a book to to return maybe during the year seasonally or monthly, to be reminded of the kind of weather we have had and what you could possibly expect - this certainly isn't a prediction but a well informed guide to what could possibly be, from history.

Also a beautiful cover to boot!

(I received an ARC from Netgalley/Collins for honest review).

Full of fascinating facts about how weather works and historic weather events set out month by month. While interesting and enlightening on many levels the facts and figures presented really bring home how our weather patterns and climate are changing.

Books like these help to make us more aware of the impact mankind is having and make us think about what we can do to stop and hopefully reverse global warming.

I love an almamac. The joy of learning something new every day during the next year is such a joy. There are an array of interesting facts and articles to fill in the year. I will be my family's weather person for the near future .An ideal gift to last the whole year.
