I’m always looking for new to me cozy mystery series and this was perfect! I may have also listened to it while on a plane to Hawaii, but I love when the main characters team up with older characters who bring humor and wit to the story. I will definitely be listening to book 2!

Easy listening, nicely narrated audiobook with some likeable characters in a mystery set against a tropical backdrop.

***AUDIO BOOK VERSION***
Aloha Alibi is the first book by Jasmine Webb that I've had the pleasure of reading/listening to and I will definitely be looking for the rest of her books. I'm so glad I picked the audio book version of this book as it was such a fun listen! The narrator added humor and warmth to this story and really was a perfect choice for the narration. The shenanigans in this book, especially by two older ladies who were included in the story was both genius and fun. The flow of the story was steady and I loved the plot, the well developed, strong, intelligent female characters and how easy it was to follow them and the story from beginning to end. This book is set in Maui which holds painful memories for the main character who's moved back there after shooting a gangster who tried to rob her. This would make a great beach read or listen due to the location and lightheartedness and fun aspects within the story despite it being about a murder.

This was a lot of fun. A beautiful local, good characters (I particularly loved the vibrant octogenarians), funny scenes, and a solid mystery.

I did find the mother of the main character, Charlotte, a bit annoying. She was too much hung up on having grandkids at all costs. Some parts also strained suspension of disbelief a bit too much and were just silly.

The narrator was very good as well.

Overall, though, I liked it. I really liked it. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Aloha Alibi introduces the Charlotte Webb mystery series by Jasmine Webb.
Charlotte "Charlie" has returned to her childhood home of Maui to escape a threat to her life. She now finds herself at loose ends, needing a job and an apartment.

When a reward is offered to help solve a local murder, Charlie is determined to get the offered $100,000!
Hijinks and shenanigans ensue placing Charlie in all kinds of trouble.
There is a fun group of characters and the Hawaii setting is lots of fun.
Its definitely on the sillier side, but it was a fast and fun read.
The audiobook was charmingly narrated by Khristine Hvam and I would recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Blueberry Books for the free audio version of this title in exchange for honest feedback.

The premise of the book is a bit silly. Here is a hint to the main character – if the mafia can find you in Seattle, they can figure out you ran off to Hawaii and are staying under your own name at your mother’s house. So that will tell you the level of intrigue in the book, not that the mafia plays more than a passing role to get the story started. That said, I do not believe Ms. Webb intended this to be a follow-up to The Sopranos or Goodfellas, nor was it to be a Sherlock Holmes.

With that said, the characters are fun and likable. Charlie and her old lady friends are great for a laugh, and you really want to get to know them, maybe have tea (or ice cream). The adventure is fun if you just let yourself go in the story. In all, a fun, light read.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. The characters are funny and quirky, which came across brilliantly through the narration. Charlie is a flawed, yet relatable protagonist and alongside Dot and Rosie make up an unusual detective team. I thought the smattering of pop culture references were well placed and the intergenerational interplay was a welcomed change to the usual murder mysteries set-up. I think you could lose the sub-plot and although, I guessed who the murderer was quite early on that didn't detract from me enjoying this audiobook right up to the end. The narrator brought the characters and the story completely to life and made the experience first-rate.

Aloha Alibi is the first book in Jasmine Webb’s Charlotte Gibson Mystery series. Having grown up on Maui, at least until her father’s death when she was 16, Charlotte swore she would never return from her Seattle home. Her mother hadn’t seen things that way and had returned once she retired from her teaching position, the reason they had moved to Seattle. However, being on the wrong side of mob threats after having killed the brother of two kingpins in self defense, Charlotte decides getting lost on the island may be a really good idea.

Zoe, her childhood best friend who is now a doctor, picks Charlotte up at the airport and takes her to her mother’s home. With only a few dollars to her name, Charlie’s first order of business is to get a job so she can get a place of her own. Her first full day on the island, Charlie makes herself invaluable at the local ice cream parlor where she serves a well dressed business man who ends up dead in an alley a short distance away. When she learns of the $100,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the perpetrator, Charlie is all in. With that kind of cash she could get her own place much sooner! What could possibly go wrong??

With a wonderful and varied cast of characters, a beautiful tropical setting, and laugh out loud humor, this delightful book will bring hours of fun! And the best news is it’s only the first in a series! I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

Aloha Alibi was a great and fun audiobook to listen to. I was captivated by the narrator and found myself really enjoying the main character, even laughing out loud at times. It is a quick, summertime murder mystery and I can’t wait to read more from Jasmine Webb.

This was a comforting cozy novel set in a new locale, Hawaii. The match of intergenerational characters was pleasantly unexpected.

Charlie Gibson kills a man in self defense who ends up being the brother of a very vengeful mobster, and when she finds a severed finger on her doorstep, she decides it's time to get out of Dodge, fast! The only place she can go, seeing as how she has no money, is Hawaii, where she spent her childhood and where her mother still lives. I mean, there are definitely worse places to go!

I thought this was a very fun book. The premise is far fetched, to say the least, but if you could look past that, it was a good read. I loved that the main characters were all strong, independent women, other than Charlie's mother, who just couldn't seem to talk about anything other than her daughter's lack of a sex life and her single-minded need for her daughter to find a man and get married. That was really annoying.

There was a semi-romance set up between Charlie and the "infuriating-but-smoldering-hot cop" but it felt forced. I would love to see that delved into further in a more organic way.

Since this was an audiobook, I have to say that I thought the narrator, Khristine Hyam, did a fine job with the different characters, and she injected a lot of feeling into her reading, which was great.

All in all, I enjoyed this cozy mystery, and look forward to reading any further books in this series as I can see the promise in this book.

4/5 stars.

Many thanks to NetGalley for an audiobook arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review

this was a fun read. there was an interesting way to get the MC back home, conflicts for her, and a twisty mystery to solve. There are some great sidekicks for future fun, and possibly a love interest in the wings. I look forward to reading more in this series

Charlotte opted to return back to her home town Maui, Hawaii to keep herself safe and sound away from a mobster. While at her new job, Charlotte met a business man who sometime later was found dead and his company posted a reward for those who could locate the killer. The story about starting life anew in the home town, renewing old friendships and forming new friendships. A very interesting story about friendships and solving murder mystery. A book for readers who love the combination of finding love, friendships and solving murder mysteries.

So my sister was skimming through Netgalley and came across this book she thought I'd like. Aloha Alibi is a cozy mystery and debut novel by Jasmine Webb. The story starts with a very shocking introduction to the lead character, and Charlie's life stays strange for the entire book. She is definitely not the stereotype amateur sleuth we normally find poking around. Plenty of cozy mystery charm that is key for a story like this, but there is also an edge that I appreciated. The crack team she assembles is fantastic, coming together in the most unconventional way. I'm sure a romance is coming down the storyline somewhere, but for now Detective Jake is doing his best to lend a hand to this fun and powerful female team.

I really liked this audiobook! Usually I have trouble keeping my focus when I listen to audiobooks, but this one kept me hooked.

It was a fun and cute read that takes place on beautiful Hawaii. Except for the story I also have to give a big thumb up to the narrator. She had a perfect voice and good pace.

I will continue in the series.
