Matrimonial Lawyer Chantal is married to TV News show presenter Stuart. They have been together since college and they have a son Alex who is seventeen and living with his girlfriend Luna.

All is well until Alex is injured in an accident and goes to his Aunt for help. Chantal suspects that Stuart is having an affair and she starts receiving threatening messages saying they "Know Her Secret" and are demanding money from her to avoid exposing her secret.

This great story is told from Chantal and Alex's alternating points of view.

An enjoyable read with great characters and a plot that kept me guessing until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

The Only Child by Miranda Jijks was an enjoyable read that went in a different direction than what I thought it was going. And I love it when a book does that as it keeps the reader more interested as you are not sure what might happen next.

A very enjoyable book with great characters, a thrilling plot that kept me guessing and an eye-catching cover. With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my digital copy to read and review. Recommended.

Chantal, Stuart and Alex are the perfect family with the perfect life or are they? I used to love Miranda’s books and pounced on them the minute they appeared but not the last ones - too many maybe? The whole family were devious and annoying and the story was contrived. Did like the setting and cover. These days instead of enjoyment I get a feeling of irritation after reading her books sadly.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving me for this book.

I felt the writing was done well in this book but there was just something missing for me and I couldn't get into it and enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.

Thank you flor the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

I’ve read other books by this author that I felt were better than this one. The story/plot were fantastic but the characters fell short for me. It was an easy and quick read but a few parts felt very repetitive, although there weren’t really any dragging parts that I could think of. I was invested enough to finish the book and see how it ended since I enjoyed the plot portion, but otherwise I’d rate this book middle of the road. Will definitely still read more by this author as her other books have been fantastic thus far.

This domestic thriller was highly addictive and can easily be read in a couple of sittings.

We follow Chantal’s POV in the past and the present as well as Alex’s present POV, which all fit together really well.

Although the characters are unlikeable at times, they were interesting and I could understand why they behaved in the ways they did.

Overall I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked and felt very fast paced. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the ending, although reading the authors note about why she wrote this book helped me understand why she chose the ending she did.

I also felt it wrapped up slightly too quickly for me personally, but overall it was an enjoyable book.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the kindle copy in exchange for a honest review. Chantal is a successful divorce lawyer and her husband Stuart a daytime TV presenter. They have a teenage son Alex. Everyone thinks they have the perfect live until someone from Chantal’s past tries to blackmail her. Another outstanding psychological thriller from Miranda Rijks.

Absolutely nothing is it as seems with this book. As soon as you think its going in one direction, the author surprises you from the left. Book was very well written, and I can't wait to read some more by this talented author. Highly recommended.

I’m an only child so this one spooked me. It was ok but I wouldn’t really recommend. The ending was shocking but enjoyable. I’m confusing myself at this point so I will leave it at that

Miranda is the queen of thrillers. 'The Only Child' does not disappoint. The cover is eery and creepy. I adored this book and it is one of my favourites by Miranda. Thoroughly recommend.

Rijkis had become one of my favorite authors. This book from her was my favorite one I've read from her. What a great Story! It will hook you in from beginning to end.

Rijks tells the tale from the point of view of two characters, alternating past and present. I found the format to be entertaining and engaging. There were some twists and turns that I did not anticipate! I thought the book came to a rather abrupt end and would have enjoyed savoring the culmination a bit longer. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend and look forward to more from Miranda Rijks. A very enjoyable read indeed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chantal, a successful divorce attorney, has an ideal life. Her husband is a successful TV show presenter, and they have a son, Alex. However, everything is not as it seems. When threats are levied against her family, Chantal is willing to go to extreme lengths to keep her family together. What secret is she hiding? Will her family survive? Chantal and Alex narrate the story and it is interesting to read their points of view. The book was fast paced, interesting, and kept me reading. I highly recommend this book and author for anyone who is interested in psychological thrillers. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
