It was fine. It kept me reading but I didn’t really engage with it or find myself loving the story or the characters. I wouldn’t recommend it to friends but I’m sure some people would like it.

GP Rachel is happy with her life until she meets patient Luc. Even though he is clearly troubled, the pair start a relationship, risking not only Rachel’s career, but her marriage too. And then when a death occurs, and Luc is suspected of involvement, Rachel has to reevaluate everything.

The Patient is a good suspense story, although I found the characters difficult to like. Rachel’s GP surgery seemed to be very relaxed compared to most in the UK and offered her plenty of time for extra marital activities! Entertaining enough read, but not one I would rave over.

This was very good read, it started off slow after that I couldn’t put it down. What a page turner!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns throughout and the surprising ending. The characters were great, the story was so suspenseful and the style of writing was perfect.
I have read books by this author before and I have enjoyed them so much I knew I was in for a treat with this one. I can’t wait for the next one to come out.
I would highly recommend this book and its author to anyone who loves reading psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this in exchange for a honest review.

Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review. This is an engaging, slow burn thriller, with a few twists towards the end.

This is a slow burning mystery. It is very much character based. I felt it lacked tension a bit. The different timelines come together in a very confusing way.

Rachel has a busy and stressful job as a GP in the beautiful city of Salisbury. But she is happy with her life. She has a daughter and a husband that she loves dearly.

But lately she is concerned by strange things happening, often while she's out running alone, or walking to her car after surgery.

Her husband says she's imagining things, but she remains uneasy.

Is it just perimenopause, or is someone following her?

When a temporary patient arrives late one evening, asking for emergency crisis support, she gives him all the time he needs, and finds herself unable to leave the thought of him behind after surgery.

As he is revealed to be a new near-neighbour, things change very quickly in Rachel's world and she realises she's in danger.

But from whom?

Thank you HarperCollins and Netgalley.
I was hooked from the beginning. This was well written, good characters, twists and turns, tension and pacy, I would highly recommend and need more from this author. !

Rachel is a GP and is married to Nathan a teacher. They live in a lovely neighbourhood and their life is settled, if unexciting.

One evening, Rachel sees a patient from out of the area who is suffering from depression and in need of medication and a friendly ear. Rachel's behaviour in spending so much time on him raises eyebrows, but it is not until she bumps into the patient at a party that she really starts to fall for him.

Unfortunately the people around her are not as they seem, and we learn from the outset that Rachel is telling her story in a police interview.

Takes a little while to get going but a satisfying ending.

I do love a book by this author, she just gets you totally involved and I can completely escape into the the book, it works as a slow burn so stay with it.

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Rachel Goodchild a respected Doctor is married to Nathan a teacher and they have a daughter Lizzie. They have gotten to the stage in their marriage where they are comfortable with each other but lacking any passion.

One night as she prepares to go home, a late patient Luc Lefevre enters the practise in tears desperate for help. Rachel is instantly attracted to this handsome man who just wants someone to listen to him and prescribe him some anti-depressants.

Nathan and Rachel are invited to a house warming party at the newly renovated property in Old Salisbury Road. Rachel is surprised to learn that Luc and his wife Ophelia are the new owners.

They start a passionate affair, which blinds her to everything else happening around her and which will have devastating consequences, that no one could have ever predicted.

The Patient is narrated from Rachel's point of view with alternating timelines.

A beautifully written story where the characters came alive for me. Several of them surprised and fooled me more than once!!

This is a great psychological thriller, gripping from start to finish. I thought the pace was good and there were excellent twists along the way.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately I couldn’t really get into this book, so I didn’t finish it. I struggled to follow the plot and the twists were quite predictable.

The story of an infatuation leading to murder. A middle aged doctor in a conventional but stale marriage becomes involved with an enigmatic Frenchman who calls into her surgery one evening suffering from depression.. The subsequent affair has disastrous consequences for people around her and for her marriage. A story of conspiracy, murder, sex and love which moves along at a good pace with many unexpected twists and turns along the way.
A book I can recommend.

The Patient opens with a written account from the protagonist of her past - Rachel is in jail and is recording the events that have led her to her current situation.
Rachel is a married Dr and she makes an error in judgment, crosses a professional boundary, and gives her new patient Luc her telephone number. Not expecting to hear from him, she is astounded when she finds that Luc and his wife Ophelia are renovating a house in her neighbourhood and so begins their affair.
The book has lots of twists and turns (some of them slightly predictable) but it's the author's description of how tumlutous relationships and marriage can be that makes the book enjoyable.
A fgreat read for all of those wanting a fast paced, psychological thriller.

I enjoyed this although it was a bit of a slow burn at times. Worth preserving though for all the twists and secrets at the end.

The Patient is a psychological thriller which begins at a slow pace before revealing all its secrets at the end. Rachel is a married GP with a grown up daughter who begins an affair with Luc after he seeks her help. The story develops around their relationship as well as Rachel's fear she is being stalked. After two local people knows to Rachel are brutally murdered, she becomes involved in the police investigation and the truth is rapidly uncovered.
I really struggled with the slow pace of this book, but persevered with it. The relationship between Rachel and Luc and the twists in the storyline seemed completely unbelievable compared to how mundane the first half of the novel had been. If you’re prepared to stick with it and take this book with a pinch of salt, you will enjoy it.

Overall, while I appreciate the effort put into the book, The Patient wasn't a standout read for me. If you're a fan of slow-burn suspense stories, you may enjoy it, but if you're looking for something more fast-paced and thrilling, this may not be the book for you.

After a slow start and a plot which looked like a moral and ethical dilemma storyline about a Doctor / patient love affair, the story escalated into something a whole lot darker involving deception on a large scale. Highly compelling, with interesting twists and turns.

With thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to review an advance copy.
