Really loved this excerpt, enough to go out and buy the full book. I’m currently isolating with covid and The Way of the Argosi was the perfect comfort read while I’m laid in bed recuperating. I loved the chance to read Ferius’ origin story, she’s a great character in the Spellslinger series and deserved a story of her own.

I've shown an interest in this series because of all the praise people have been giving it and it seems like something I would like. This opening definitely is quite intriguing and compelling, especially with the cliffhanger, although I'm not too sure whether I'm getting on with this writing style or not. Obviously it's too soon to tell but I can definitely see myself picking up this book in the future if only to sample a bit of Sebastian de Castell's work.

This is the first time I read something by this author and what I read made me we want to buy the entire series.
It's a promising sampler, can't wait to read the book

Noooo! You can't just leave it there! I know it said a limited page sample but I didn't expect it to end just there. Did this sample make me go out and buy the book? Yes it did. I loved the Spellslinger series and definitely want to learn more about the mysterious Argosi. This sample just whetted my appetite perfectly.

I've seen this series around, a lot, actually - it's one of those that I keep meaning to check out and still haven't gotten around to. Seeing a sample of a prequel available on netgalley had me intrigued, I wondered if it would be possible for me to get into a series starting with a prelude novel, or if I should start with the first book (I just went to Amazon and bought Way of the Argosi on kindle, so that answers that question, it's very possible) The sample is really short, but it's full of brilliantly paced action, magic, murder and intrigue from the first page...I was left with a cliffhanger that I couldn't ignore. I like the slightly sarcastic main character and I'm genuinely looking forward to the rest of the book.

From the 8 pages available in this sample, I now want to read this book and the rest of the series. The writing is great and I'm intrigued about where the story is going already. Rating as 5 stars as it's definitely a 5 star prediction but obviously this is only the very beginning of this book.
