This was such a disappointing end to a trilogy I loved. I was so excited about this book but I just found it... dull, if i'm honest. Once again all our main characters are separated and there is just far too much wandering from one place to another for me. I really had high hopes for this conclusion but it just fell flat, with one of my hated tropes - a time jump right after action, why do authors keep doing this to me.

This is 3rd instalment in this series. There are many elements in this book which I adore. The realtionships are abosutely teriffic add in the fantasy element and we have a key to a winner series. Through this series the story line has been consistent and the writing had been superb.Fulk of action, Adventure and magic.

Thank you for my arc! I am so glad I read this series. It definitely needs even more love than I gets now, it’s brilliant. It had so many elements that I loved, the relationships with people were engaging and memorable, the fantasy elements were great even for newbies to fantasy, and the plot & action kept me interested!

Very late feedback. because I had to read the first two books in the trilogy before reading this one... A very satisfying conclusion to a brilliant, beautifully written trilogy - I'll definitely be looking at other titles by Amélie Wen Zhao in the future.

The most perfect finish to such an amazing and original trilogy. I really enjoyed it. The characters, plot and world building were so unique and brilliant.

This book was everything I wanted and more.

Whilst I'm gutted this series is over, I am so thankful to have gone on this journey. I have fallen in love with this series and it's characters.

Honestly just the perfect wrap up to a perfect series.

This was an excellent series and this is the epic conclusion that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Fast paced, full of action, entertaining and gripping.
I was sad to say goodbye to Ana and Ransom and loved this book.
Look forward to the next series by this author.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This book was a bit of a disappointment for me unfortunately, as I felt it didn't really know what it was trying to accomplish. Consequently, the narrative felt muddled and disjointed, particularly in the second half. I thought that some of the characters were given pretty short shrift, and that others had questionable motivations and behaviours. Overall, I thought that the series was pretty solid and would recommend reading this conclusion if you have read the other books in the trilogy, but it could have done a lot more for me.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I loved the first two books in the Blood Heir series and I am ecstatic to say the last book is in no way disappointing, it’s a fabulous and enthralling conclusion to the trilogy. We pick up more where we left off and are thrown straight into the action. The pacing is great, the plot engages you and the writing is beautifull descriptive. There is a touch of romance, but not so much it diverts from the story, but I do adore Ana and Ramson so much, a great slow burn romance and one of my favourite couples. I thought this was a fantastic end to this series and some of my favourite characters . This is a beautifully crafted piece of writing full of amazing characters and lots of twists and turns. Thoroughly recommend this and the whole series.

What a fabulous and captivating conclusion to the Blood Heir trilogy. We pick up more or less where Red Tigress ends and are thrown straight into the action. Ana is now on her ship on the way to the Cyrilian Empire to try to stop Morganya finding a powerful artefact. Ramson stayed in Bregon to find out if there is a way to destroy the syphons and Kaïs and Linn are headed to the Kemeirian Empire. The focus shifts between their journeys throughout the novel. The pacing is good and the plot engaging and there is plenty of action to hold your interest. Each scene is beautifully written and descriptive.

There is a little bit of romance but it doesn’t overshadow the story. Ana is very focused on winning the war and helping her people and is therefore willing to sacrifice her relationship with Ramson. She’s is constantly fighting with her emotions and has to push Ramson away and hide her feelings in order to focus, which shows her strength of character and loyalty to her subjects. Ramson continues to be my favourite character. He has a big personality and I love his wit and sarcasm and his incredible loyalty to Ana. Kaïs and Linn have come into their own in this book and Linn in particular has a great part to play and their connection with each other is lovely.

A very satisfying conclusion to this amazing Russian inspired trilogy. This is a beautifully crafted world, full of action, magic, amazing characters and lots of twists and turns. There is a climatic end resulting in a battle which will have you on the edge of your seat. I have to mention the covers for this series which are simple but so eye-catching.

Thank you to the publisher for the eARC via Netgalley to review.

I was very, extremely nervous to start Crimson Reign after the events of Red Tigress. I had a lot of worries - how are the characters? Will they get their happy ending? Will Zhao manage to wrap up the trilogy successfully? Also, in the back of mind is that while I did like Red Tigress I did have a few issues with pacing & plot.

But Crimson Reign . . . it was SO good. I really, really loved it. I think all of our main characters have absolutely fantastic character development from the first novel to the last. We saw each of them grow and learn, settling more in to themselves. Ana went from believing that she had to restore the monarchy and take her place as rightful ruler to becoming a true revolutionary, realising that the only way to end the legacy of blood, pain and oppression is to completely overhaul the system. Ransom went from being closed off and ruthless to picking happiness over power. Linn and Kais also had fantastic journeys, both of them, like Ana and Ransom, realising that they are in charge of their own destiny and the path set out for them based on their abilities/skills does not have to be the only path.

Having just mentioned Linn and Kais, I've got to say - I'd love just a whole book of them as protagonists. I'd take another spin off trilogy (view spoiler).

I loved the romance and how the plot came to a solid, fulfilling conclusion - like I said, the character development was just the best part for me.

My only issues with the book is that I wish the ending dragged out a little big longer. While everything came to a decent conclusion, I'd have liked to see more of the aftermath and reconciliation between the characters. Additionally, I think the book would've benefitted from giving Sorscha a POV chapters, her character ultimately felt sort of pantomime villain, one dimensional, when I think under that she's a really complex character, we sadly just didn't get to see much of it. This was a bit better with Morganya, but I do think all of the antagonists/villains could've had more development.

All in all, I really loved this book and I'm excited to see what else Zhao has in store.

The Blood Heir series has been a strange reading experience for me. Book one was solid and set up an intriguing world and some solid characters and established motivations and potential arcs. Book two was personally my favourite - it introduced a new setting and the stakes rose.

This book was a fitting conclusion to the series but the plot felt kind of circular or repetitive at times. I was happy with the decisions characters made for the most part and enjoyed the shifting ideas of Ana about leadership and ruling.

I do have some other thoughts about the ending but don't want to get into spoiler territory.

My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I wonder what the author will write next...

The Blood Heir Trilogy is a gripping fantasy about displaced royalty. Crimson Reign was a fantastic ending to the series, with non-stop action and a fast paced plot. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, desperate to find out how things were going to end! This story is beautifully written with realistic and relatable characters, and I'm slightly sad to see it end! Time for a full reread, I think - because this is a world that I could happily be sucked back into again and again.

BOOK REVIEW: Crimson Reign by @ameliewenzhao

4.5 Stars

What a fantastic ending to such an interesting series! I was so excited for this final installment and I was right to be!

I don't want to talk too much about the storyline as this is a spoiler free review but I thoroughly enjoyed it and although I pretty much knew how it would end, the twists and turns to get there were brilliant and had me gripped! As ever, I loved the use of magic in this series, it is so well thought out and the variety in the Affinites (people with magic) is so imaginative.

The characters made this series great. Ana is our lead female, the heir to the throne who has blood magic. I have loved Ana's journey through this series, both physically and mentally. She has really grown as a person...although she still made me frustrated a few times in this book! Our lead male is Ramson and oh how I adore him. He is such a wonderful guy with wit, a great personality and talent. He is also incredibly loyal and really takes care of those he cares about. Our main side character is Linn and I loved having not only chapters in Ana and Ramson's points of view but also in Linns. She is SUCH a brave lady and I loved her friendship with Ana. Her part of the story was possibly my favourite in this book! The rest of the side characters played amazing roles, I especially loved Kais and Daya (she added some much needed humour!).

The writing was superb, as always. Zhao is a talented author and her way with words as well as her imagination has made for a truly brilliant series that I can't wait to read again! It took me no time at all to fall back into this world and enjoy every page of it.

Overall, a near perfect ending to a great series. I cannot wait to see what Zhao releases next! I highly recommend the Blood Heir series to anyone that enjoys YA fantasy.

Please note that I was #gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Love was a weakness, and dreams were for fools - and the end to both had finally come."

This is it. The conclusion to the Blood Heir Trilogy. And what a conclusion it was.

We are thrown right into the story again, starting where we left off in the second book. The pace is a fast one, with shifting the focus between Ana, Ramson and Linn. All three of them have their own journey, their own battle to fight. The characters drive the story, despite it being full of action from almost start to finish. This story lives and breathes through its characters and the world created by Zhao, which is what I love the most about it.

The writing, as before, is very fast paced and makes it easy to follow the story. It is just perfectly right for this story, and I love that we discover, even now, more of this world Zhao created.

A wonderful ending to an entertaining book series.

Thank you to netgalley the publisher and author for allowing me access to this eARC.

This is the final book in the trilogy of this series and started very storng and love the characters but feels like a duology turned into a trilogy which seems to slow down events and pull everything longer which changes the pacing. I did like this series overall but I think as a duology the book series would be better

This series started out really strong, I loved the characters and diverse setting of the plot. However I started loosing interest soon after being halfway thru the second book. Yet I pushed myself to finish it.
Reading the 3rd book was a slow process I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately it did not stand up to me.
one thing I'd like to comment on the is the way author writes her fighting scenes they're well scripted and executed. The world she built was beautiful and rich. I loved the characters, especially ramson. The Russian lord will have my heart forever.
I wanted this book to be a 5 star read but it didn't deliver.
I'd like to thank netgalley and HarperCollins for providing me with this arc. I have never given false reviews and will not start sugarcoating now.
The series had a mega potential to become a 5 stay but it did not deliver.
