This was a fun and simple way to pick up a few more words in french. It is designed for children but adults would be able to benefit as well.

I really loved this children's book, which is a comprehensive and educational book that teaches children 5 new French words to learn and practice every day, for 1 year. They will learn 1000 words in total.

The book is laid out superbly, with easy to read instructions and beautiful illustrations showing the French vocabulary. Each section is based around a theme, such as toys, food, school, home etc. I had so much fun going through the book, as I learned French at school, and this was a great refresher for me.

It is a great workbook and I recommend it highly!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

This is a great book to teach children some French words every day of the year. Every day there are five new French words to learn and at the end of each week kids can test themselves on what they remember. The book is a fun looking one which I’m sure many will enjoy using and there are added flaps in this book to make it easier to test yourself on what you’ve learned.

I love how this book looks, with each page looking so colourful and easy to understand with five French words on each day accompanying five illustrations which tend to be on the same subject for that day although the days alternate with different subjects on each day. For example on one day there are words you’d find in the classroom, on another it’s numbers or days of the week, etc. Each five words are easy to understand due to the accompanying pictures and the book encourages you to download an app or visit the website in order to listen to the words and how they are pronounced properly.

At the end of each week kids can test their knowledge of the words they learned during that week with short exercises like selecting the correct word with the correct corresponding picture attached or filling in the blank space of what word should be written according to the picture. Each day is made more fun to learn too with flaps on either side of the book which can be used on any page where you can cover the words on that page in order to test yourself on those words. I do like this book overall, the idea of learning just five words a day makes the whole idea of learning a new language fun and very easy to do. The illustrations that are on all the pages are fun and for the most part it’s very easy to understand what the words mean in English as a result of the pictures.

In general I do like this book and found it fun to use, however the only criticism I have is that there is no English vocabulary list anywhere that I can see. There is an index of French words and what pages they can be found on at the end of the book as well as an index of English words and where you can find those items/words in the book, but there is no direct French to English translations/vocabulary list to look up which is a shame as there was an occasional word I found, like the classroom board, which I wasn’t sure what the direct translation of it was and it would have been nice to check I hadn’t misunderstood the word I was trying to learn.

Overall this is a great and new way to learn French and I like the fact that there are so many words to learn within a year and the fact you can listen to them via an app or website too. There are lots of different things to learn and many of the words to learn are ones I never studied at school despite doing a French GCSE (what was wrong with my education!?)! Overall it’s a great book but I really do feel it’s missing something in not having that vocabulary list.

Fabulous book! Lovely, bright illustrations laid out in an easy to use format. Although this book is for children, I think learners of all ages would benefit.

This book is aimed at children but I honestly think it's such a fantastic idea for people of any age.
Only learning 5 new words a day is a great concept and means there can never be an excuse of not having enough time to learn a new language.
I like the fact you can also get an audio so you hear how the words are pronounced too.

Wow this is amazing! My 15 year old has been learning French, I can't wait to show her this book. I think it will definitely be one to buy. The layout is great as well as the pictures. I love how colourful the pages are. Set out in sections for learning 5 different things each day then a test at the end of the week to see what you remember. There is audio aswell on the DK website which I found brilliant and a great addition to this book. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this amazing book.
