This is quite an interesting book for kids, it does have historical information as well an explanation so not the easiest read for younger kids. I've requested to read with my seven yo but we are only doing a few pages before it gets a bit too much information for him to digest. I think it's a very good book and my soon will enjoy greatly in a year or two.

A really interesting look into all types of codes and cyphers, from Egyptian hieroglyphs to DNA to the Enigma machine. Aimed at children but not condescending or overly simplified at all, there are some fairly sophisticated explanations. I learned quite a few new things.

Very decent history of code-breaking, cyphers and so on, updated to bring in some brand new facts. The whole thing might have included some puzzles and things for us to try out – I am sure there are books that do that as well as convey the narrative with ease – but does come with the usual sterling DK visual aspect, so learning through image, pull quote and more is also most easy.
