Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an e-copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. If you love a good dystopian story, I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.

Hands down, Grace Hamilton is one of the best at what she does. SOLID storytelling, character and world building, except I can do without the never-ending cliffhangers.

This is book 2 in the EMP disaster series and it’s right back into the action.
Melanie and her gang have secured the factory and all it’s goodies for themselves but there is a rival gang who also want the factory.

What I really loved about this book was Melanie, she is a natural born leader and strong enough to make the tough decisions to keep her band of family and friends safe.

What I didn’t like was the whiny teenagers who were willing to give up the factory because they did not want to fight.

If that was me I would’ve made them spend the night outside the factory just to show them how tough it would be.

Overall I enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into book three.

Melanie and the whole cast of characters from Book One are back. Book Two picks up right where the first leaves off. With Melanie and the other survivors under attack in the factory. Melanie's crazy ex-boss Derrick's friend Cooper is outside the factory with his makeshift army of followers, determined to defeat the group barricaded within. Inside, with limited supplies, the survivors won't be able to hold the attackers off for long. Melanie’s husband, Mark, was previously shot and as time passes, Without medicine, he won't survive. Melanie's only choice is to leave the safety of the factory and venture out to get the supplies her husband needs to get better. Unfortunately, no matter how much they throw at Cooper and his gang, they seem to be practically invincible. When one of their own dies tragically, the whole group is devastated. Melanie's hopes are crushed and she considers giving in to Cooper.

I loved how Nathan, Derrick's son, became a part of the survivor group and I liked his growing bond with Shona. There was lots of tension, suspicion and division among the group. Melanie is a good character with lots of practical skills that come in handy. She is fairly no-nonsense but still has emotional reactions to situations. I like the book, but never felt deeply connected to it. It was an enjoyable read but I wasn't totally blown away, which is not a bad thing. I will definitely be awaiting the third book to see how the characters' stories end.

I love how the covers are have a theme and you can clearly see that they are part of the same series. I really like how the titles also have a theme, in this series, EMP Disaster, so far, the first two book’s titles have both started with the word “Chaos”.

After reading bk 1 and the cliff hanger ending I seriously couldn’t wait to start reading this book, and it’s right back into the action with Melanie, Lizzy and their group defending the factory and its contents from returning members of Derek Platts crazy cult of extreme preppers led by Cooper who are determined to gain control of it. When Melanie & Lizzy’s group manage to keep them at bay despite the extreme preppers having what seems like a larger arsenal of tear gas canisters and other weapons. At first the group feel relief but then the realisation hits that they will have to finish off Cooper and some of his crazy friends before they can truly feel any sort of lasting peace. When the damage done by Cooper and his crazy gang is assessed it’s clear that they need to be repaired quickly before Cooper’s inevitable return. It’s whilst taking a list of damage that the group in the factory realise, they are not equipped with the necessary skills to sufficiently repair the breaches in the factory. Without help it will not take much effort of Crazy Cooper and his gang to gain fairly easy access to Beaton’s factory. Perhaps this is the reason that Melanie is so eager to accept more people to the group at the factory when a dishevelled bunch of fellow survivors arrive at the gates of the factory. Although Melanie decides to accept to of the survivors into the haven of Beaton’s Factory, however it is only because they have skills to trade in exchange for shelter and food and she makes this very clear. The other survivors in the group as sent away. Whether she has let two more sheep into the fold or a sheep and a wolf is something she finds out much later. Sadly, after an original character is killed, Melanie comes to the conclusion she has made a large mistake about on of those she let in.

Characters I still loved in this book were Melanie Pearson and her still injured husband Mark. Even though Mark desperately needs some stronger antibiotics for the infection caused by his gun shot wound she delays going in search of them to make sure everyone else is as safe as possible. Finally, Melanie gives in to her inner turmoil and external pressure from their daughter Shona, and she sets off alone to a nearby pharmacist one of the newbie factory dwellers tells her about to bring medication for Mark and any other items that look like they may come in useful at a later date. Shona Pearson and Nathan Platt are becoming closer and always seem to be off whispering together which begins to worry Melanie a little. Though when they come up with a design, collect the supplies and build a working shower, everyone is relieved and all smell much better too which is something Shona was always complaining about. Sometimes Shona comes across as a little spoilt and seems used to perhaps getting more attention and having things much easier than they are now in this new world they are all living in. At the start of the first book, I did like the character of Lizzy Turner and I felt so sorry for her when she had to hurriedly leave her murdered mother’s body behind whilst the group fled to safety. As time went on she shied away from fighting, occasionally making survival and defence more difficult for Melanie, but once again in this book she proves her worth when Melanie puts her on a secret project that proves to become a very useful one when the group need to get into the factory undetected. Of the two new characters, Brian and Rita I initially took to the female welder, Rita Mire more, even though she kept more to herself and was rather standoffish to the others. Rita knows her job and doesn’t like people interfering in it when she is reinforcing the factory. Then there is the mystery of how Cooper and his crazy preppers seem to be one step ahead….and the suspicion falls on the new comers but which one is the “wolf hiding in sheep’s clothing”. . . the amiable, always chatty Brian, or the quiet, maybe secretive Rita? As for the character that dies in this book, it was a shame as I really liked them, (I won’t reveal who it is) they had extremely useful skills, were immediately missed and I’d say changed the dynamic of the group quickly. I think they were a voice of reason, and a very practical person who knew what skills were needed to added to the group for future survival and what needed to be done to extend the group into more of a settlement. This person didn’t just have ideas on how to survive, they had ideas on how to thrive.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing this book were, Wow! What a cliff-hanger again!!

Summing up it really seems that dealing with Cooper and his crazy gang is like playing whack-a-mole as they get hit and just keep on popping back up. To say I am seriously looking forward to the next book is an understatement!! The taster of Breaking Chaos has made me want to read the book even more, if that’s possible. The other taster chapters at the back of this book are for Escaping Conflict, bk1 in the Island of Refuge, new series and also Endless Winter which is a book co-written by Grace Hamilton and Riley Miller, and after reading those I am definitely interested in reading those too!
