Kate Hamblin has her work cut out with this one. A bestselling crime writer who finds a flasher in her garden but doesn't want the Police investigating because she 'likes her privacy'. Intrigued? So is Kate and since this flasher has scared other women Kate is determined to track him down and stop his antics before it escalates. She has a suspect in her sights but before she can arrest him he is found hanged. Suicide or murder? It looks like suicide but all is not as it seems.

And all is not as it seems in the home of Tamara, the bestselling author. What has she got to hide that is so important she is reluctant to allow the police to investigate her second stalker.

This is a very intriguing story which had me guessing all the way through. There are a lot of titbits thrown to the reader along the way but not enough to work out what is going on.

As the stalker escalates and anyone who gets in his way find themselves in danger can Kate and her team uncover the secrets and stop the psychopath before he stops them?

Absolutely brilliant , adrenaline pumping story that had me turning page after page all the way to the end. Another excellent read from one of my favourite authors.

It starts with the same flasher who has plagued the Somerset Levels. Crime novelist Tamara Callaghan, chased to her door by the man clothed only in hood, calls the police and is interviewed by Detective Sergeant Kate Lewis. Tamara refuses to cooperate and Kate believes she is hiding something. She is. And when a local book store displaying Tamara’s newest book is vandalized, Kate and her team become involved in an investigation that is full of concealed identities, threats and murder. Can Kate solve this complicated case before she becomes a victim herself?

STALKER on the LEVELS is an excellent police procedural with an atmospheric setting. However, I did not like the relationship between Kate and her husband Hayden. Their banter, especially on Kate’s side, is mean spirited and their home life is sad and off-putting. Kate’s work personality is captivating while her private life is not. 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and David Hodges for this ARC.

Stalker on the Levels, by David Hodges, is a fun, fast paced police mystery. The main character,
Detective Kate Hamblin, is a fairly likable protagonist. I thought the pet names, that she and her husband had for each other, seemed rather mean spirited and unnecessary, though. But for the most part, I though he and the other police officers, that she works with, were likeable and meshed well together.
First Detective Hamblin is sent out to an indecent exposure incident at famous crime novelist Tamara Callaghan's large estate.
Then when she goes to her book signing, she arrives to find that all the copies of Tamara’s new book have been destroyed. Someone has a major beef with Ms Callaghan.
Things only get worse and the flasher is eventually found hung in an old barn not to far from his home. While ‘SORRY’ is written on the floor underneath him, Kate's not convinced it was a suicide. So her team might be dealing with a murderer, now.

Another excellent addition to ‘The Levels’ series. Thoroughly enjoyable read as ever from David Hodges.

More Than Meets The Eye…?
The ninth in the Detective Kate Hamblin mystery series finds our Detective dealing with an apparent vendetta against a famous crime novelist but is there more to this than meets the eye? When a death occurs things soon take a sinister turn. With credible characters and an interesting plot this is engaging reading once again and a worthy addition to the series.

A race around the Somerset Levels and into Pembrokeshire with several life and death - especially death - skirmishes. DS Kate Hamblin certainly likes to be in the thick of things. Her poor long suffering hubby Hayden - also a police officer is left in the dust of her speeding around.

Loved it.

Thnks to Netgalley and the publisher I read a free dvance review copy of the book. This review is voluntary, honest and my own opinion.

Another solid instalment in this well established series with the return of several characters and plenty of scrapes for Kate to find herself in during what is a complex case.
BUT I've read a number of books from several authors who have the same publisher and for me the language used by the characters is terribly unrealistic and it often feels like all of the books have been written by the same hand. David Hodges is purported to be a retired senior police officer; I'm willing to bet that neither his colleagues nor the villains he encountered spoke in the way these characters do. PLEASE let us have realistic language in future!! I didn't want to read "dear heart", "old girl/chum" "oh dear gosh!" NOBODY in the UK today speaks like that and it takes away all authenticity from the book!

Thank you Netgalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
Detective Kate Hambling is called to the house of a famous author who has just been flashed by a nude man with a mask, but the author refuses to lay a complaint...she wants her privacy. This man has scared several women, but is difficult to catch. When someone enters a bookstore and ruins the copies of her books, she still won't go public. The police are afraid she might be in danger, but she refuses all. help. The stalker won't stop and the police can't find him.
Kate and her husband Hayden, a policeman, are an odd couple. He's likened to Boris Johnson, which was fun, it made me see him clearly. But at times I felt sorry for him, she can be quite mean to him.
The story clips along at a good pace and is quite twisty. I remained curious as to why the author wanted to be left alone and the ending explained it well and was a good one.

This is the 9th book in the Detective Kate Hamblin series, but it is the first one I've read. At the start of the book Kate is called out to an indecent exposure incident at Tamara Callaghan's house. Tamara is a famous crime author. Then, after a book signing, every one of Tamara's books in the bookstore is destroyed and a message left by the perpetrator. This looks like a very personal attack. It seems Tamara has a stalker. Then, the flasher is found hanging in an old barn. It seems this stalker is a murderer.

The book started off a little slow, but quickly got my interest. I enjoyed this crime thriller and raced through it to see what would happen. Kate has some help from a surprising source when she gets into some very scary situations where her life is threatened. I liked the character and her determination. I may pick up some of the earlier books in this series.

Thanks to Joffe Books through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on November 24, 2021.
