Where to start! This is one of those books that will leave a lasting effect.
Ironically I did a Human Factors course the day I started reading it so I read it with this in mind
A total tragedy brought about by a sequence of unfolding events caused by stress, fatigue, busy life, pressure etc.
The tragedy that hits Dr Sue and her family is heartbreaking and watching the courtroom events unfold just shows how judgemental as a nation we are. We all think it would never happen to us, we'd never do that.
It was a tragic accident, alongside the story watching Adelaide struggle with her loss and trying to run away from her past meant the two women had things in common.
I was a bit of an emotional wreck at the end but I enjoyed this book and the ending was really positive

When Marian Keyes and Liz Nugent praise a book you can be pretty sure it will be a good read and Breaking Point did not disappoint. It's a stunning read, that held me gripped and breathless over the course of 24 hours , desperate to discover the fate of Susannah. The latter is known as Dr Sue, a mother of 2, a paediatric doctor, an author and parental advice guru . One fateful morning, on one of the hottest days of the year she leaves her baby daughter in the car and hours later discovers her baby has not survived. It's a shocking moment for the reader and from there the novel follows Susannah's trial by jury, media and the American public. Running alongside this is the story of Adelaide a journalist on the story who encountered Susannah many years before. Breaking Point really gets to the heart of the judgments and expectations put on women in our society today, the guilt women live with and confronts us with our own judgements on others. Highly recommended

This book was definitely more than I thought it was going to be. Here were have a high flying, successful, doctor trying to juggle her career and parenthood.

One horrific mistake leads to media scrutiny and a high profile trial the outcome of which will leave you open mouthed!

Whilst this reads like a domestic suspense novel it is much more than that. Here we have an indictment of a society which says that a woman can't have a career and be a mother. A society which treats the actions of a woman differently from how it treats the actions of a man.

The ending was explosive and I really felt for the two main characters especially Adelaide. It's a heartbreaking book but written with compassion and raising issues in a non-sensationalist way.

Thanks to Little, Brown Book Group UK, Sphere and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
