Months after tragic event, Kate reluctantly accepts an invitation to a job interview for a higly respected position in a very renown firm. The interview is on Friday at 5 pm, after working hours, and Kate even in her wildest dreams couldn't expect further happenings. Nothing is normal and everything is twisted, torturous and dangerous. Kate finds herself in a death trap.

What is the real reason behind the interview?

The setting is claustrophobic, nerve-racking and beyond all - cinematic and full of action.

Excellent binge read.

When I read the synopsis, I was really excited to read the book, it was wonderful from page one, you really felt the claustrophobic atmosphere. I genuinely didn’t know what was going to happen next. I would thoroughly recommend this book.

After reading the synopsis for this book I just had to read the whole thing.
Kate is called for an interview; she thinks it’s for her dream job but little does she know it is about to take a dramatic turn. Interviews are renowned for being scary things, often getting us to do things outside of our comfort zone but how far would you go for your dream job, when do you stop answering the questions that are getting more and more personal and decide the job isn’t worth it, would you do it before it’s too late? Kate has to decide whether the questions Joel is asking her are for the job she is applying for or something else completely.
This is a very clever cat and mouse story, it has very few characters and told almost in real time which makes it a very intense and sometimes claustrophobic read. There are flashbacks used to help with the back story and to explain how the events of today came to be which really helps you understand the characters. I don’t want to give too much of the storyline away but it had me hooked from the start, I definitely didn’t want to put it down. It is very addictive.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pan McMillan for allowing me the chance to read an advance copy.

The Interview is a very clever title for this novel by C M Ewan. Interviews usually evoke a sense of dread and I think the title acts as an exemplar for what may be contained within. In reality, the interview in question is more of a writer’s device to tell a familiar story a slightly different way. Imprisonment, psychological torture, interrogation and physical harm is really what it’s all about and that could have been done in any setting, not necessarily within a deserted office skyscraper, but it was the job opportunity that was the lure for the main character Kate. The interviewer was working for an aircraft manufacturer and wanted to find out what information was known about a particular design defect. It’s in essence a melange of missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, Boeing 737 MAX and the Airbus A320 black box debacle of 1988. In terms of action it’s pretty full on and Kate (the interviewee) does her best to escape from the ‘office’ using any means she can think of. The elevator shaft escape being the most implausible as the human pendulum technique would be impossible for an amateur to pull off. I cannot think why Kate, in an office of electrical appliances, didn’t use a lead to electrify one of metal doors but I suppose many people don’t know their wiring colour codes. All in all a very pacey thriller with some interesting twists but too much introspection for me.

The Interview grabs you from the very beginning and doesnt let go. Katie is applying for a job in a high flying PR company in the heart of London, keen for a change of direction and focus. The interview, late on a Friday afternoon, starts off in a fairly normal way but quickly things turn very sour and Katie is left in a dangerous situation.
I really enjoyed the beginning and end of the book, but the middle dragged a little for me, it was a bit too repetitive and with such a small cast of characters, there's only so much you can say about being locked in or trying to find solutions.
So for me, worth a read but left me wanting more, sorry. Thanks for the chance to read it though!

When I saw the premise of this book, I knew I had to read it instantly. I love books which are set over such short time periods and this story takes place in just a number of hours.

Kate is called to a job interview. She arrives and it becomes clear that all is not as it seems....

I really don't want to say any more as to talk more about the plot would only give away what might be happening beyond the synopsis.

All I will say is that this is one of those books you won't want to put down once you start so put aside a few hours if you are going to pick this up.

The only thing I would say is that I felt it was a little bit long. Given the premise and the small number of characters I felt it dragged a bit in the middle and could possibly have benefitted from being slightly shorter and kept the story a little tighter. It's hard to say more without spoilers.

All in all, a good thriller, if a little long, but well worth reading.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A real thriller told over a matter of hours but it crams so much in. Incredibly fast paced I couldn’t put this down and will look for more books by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.

Awesome.
I'm a fan of C.M. Ewan after reading The Window Break. I loved this book. It's based on an interview which turned deadly. It felt like i was reading The One. But it's awesome with good twists. Definitely looking forward for more from this author.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for giving me an advance copy.

I’ve been in a reading slump ploughing through dreadfully boring reads, some of which are of the psychological suspense genre, yet lacking in the gripping factor. The Interview broke that slump and how 😱 An absolute five star! A smashing read.
This follows Kate, grieving the death of her husband who passed away in an airplane crash a year ago. A recruitment consultant sets Kate up with an interview at a high-functioning corporate job. This job means a much higher salary and is the pathway to promotions and moving up the PR career ladder. But her interviewer Joel, is no ordinary corporate man. He’s much more deadlier. Hired to extract answers from Kate at any cost...
Set in “real-time” spanning one tensed filled night, this is a cat-and-mouse thriller full of adrenaline, secrets and twists. I was hooked, and binge-read this in one go. A compulsively nail biting thriller!! 👌

I requested this Netgalley read because the book title, cover and synopsis gave me high-concept feels, and man o man did this book deliver and how. This is a high concept thriller filled with crackling tension and high octane.
Kate is grieving the death of her husband. Emotionally she’s in a terrible state. She’s channeling her emotions through obsessive jogging and work. She’s sent for a job interview at a sleek, corporate organisation based in Ludgate Hill, near St Paul’s. She’s nervous. She’s interviewed by a man named Joel. Her appointment is on a Friday afternoon at 5pm. Joel is young, strong and handsome. At first he asks the usual questions...but then some of the questions become personal and invasive...Joel knows Kate more than she thinks. He’s been sent to find the truth...This is going to be a long night...😱
It’s not long before Kate realises she’s been duped and she’s being held hostage. But what does Joel want from her?
The less you know going into this the better. It’s a high-octane thriller read with loads of twists and turns. There’s plenty of action, too. I think this will make an excellent movie. An addictive rollercoaster ride. I did find the ending too neat for my taste which is why I’m giving it four stars but this is an absolute solid read. 👌

This is one of those page turners that takes place within a 24 hour period, the full story being told with flashbacks as the cat and mouse game progresses.

A traumatised widow is trying to put her life back together after losing her husband in a plane crash. She can no longer work as an airline hostess and has been working for friends in a PR company, Simple, but she isn't finding it distracting enough and is approached by an employment agency suggesting she apply to a fast-rising and challenging PR company, Edge. But the interview for the job is nothing like what she is expecting and so begins the fight for her life.

Very clever and totally absorbing. I will be looking for his other books now.

I'm a fan of this author so was excited to read this in advance of publication. I read it in one sitting, barely looking up, it is a genuinely addictive and beautifully done thriller that defies all attempts to put it down until you know how it all ends up.

An interview that turns into a deadly trap that turns into a cat and mouse chase keeps you involved throughout and it never comprises on character or plot in order to offer the thrills, spills, twists and turns.

A superb thriller. Highly Recommended.
