Kate has an interview. Friday evening 5pm and the opportunity to take on a new position which will allow her to move on in her life after a period of trauma and turbulence.

She meets Maggie, her recruiting agent, for a pep talk before the interview and the pair agree to meet afterwards for a debrief so they can assess how the interview went. As the hour draws near Kate is psyched, ready to impress and determined the job will be hers. If you have ever attended an interview in the past you will likely appreciate the anxiety Kate is feeling and the author conveys her apprehension well.

The book opens with a bit of background into Kate, her current job and her aspirations. Just enough detail to leave a thread of intrigue dangling. There’s something in Kate’s history which she is keen to leave behind her, a huge incident that she has had to take some time to deal with and now it appears she is ready to make changes.

Whether she will be given the job will depend on Joel. He is a dark horse, an interviewer who is hard to read and he takes a somewhat unorthodox appeoach to his questionning. Joel is about to put Kate through an interview she will never forget.

C.M. Ewan is a master at spinning an unpredictable and entertaining thrill-fest so I will not be doing much more in this review in terms of describing what unfolds when Kate’s interview begins. What I will address is the first question I had….Is this whole book about two people chatting through an interview? No – there’s a lot more going on than a grilling over a table top. Once events start to slip away from Kate and the balance of power moves to Joel this book will reach out and grab you, there will be no escape until you know how everything gets resolved.

A story you can slip into and let events take you along for the ride. It will keep you reading long past the point you should have settled down to sleep. C.M. Ewan knows how to tell a good story and The Interview is another fine example of this.

I mean ... Can a book get more unbelievable than this?!

It started off great, with a high-stakes interview in a fancy office. Even when the interviewer started getting overly personal, it still had potential. I thought, at this point, that it was going to turn into a psychological torture story but instead it descended into absolute chaos. People who had dies, apparently, weren't really dead; the one decent character gets killed off; collateral damage is all over the place; the interview is apparently not a fan of violence but you wouldn't believe it; and finally, our main character is weak and absolutely ridiculous. I just ... I finished it, but sat there afterwards, not believing what I'd just sat through. I didn't hate it but it started strong and fell apart. I can't rate it very highly.

A fast-paced thriller about an interview gone wrong! The Interview is an enjoyable read if you don't think too much about the logistics of it. Kate is invited to an interview while recovering from a personal loss and she thinks this would be a fresh start. But things get scary and she finds herself facing a life-or-death situation.

I thought Kate is a good protagonist to root for, and she faces an antagonist that's equally compelling. There were scenes that I think might work better on the screen though because having them being told instead of seen bogged down the suspense. The book leans into a conspiracy theory angle which is interesting but feels predictable. Kate’s situation gets more and more outlandish, though props to the book for sticking to the landing where not everyone gets a happy ending. Read this if you like action thrillers with grey characters!

Kate arrives for an interview for a new job but she quickly learns that this is no ordinary interview and a fight for her life. The interviewer is far more interested in her husband and his role in the Marsh Air disasters. What is the truth and what will Kate learn along the way.

Well that was a dark and twisted read. Its a very slow start though so you do have to stick with it to get to the really good parts. Once it gets going, you're quickly drawn into the story. The ending is bittersweet and a little sad but it does fit with the tone of the story. There are a few twists along the way, Some I figured out like why Joel was so interested but Maggie's part was clever. A dark twisted tale.

I've not read anything by this author before and I was a bit apprehensive when I realized this was set purely in one building, over the course of a few hours, but this was such a fast-paced, claustrophobic read that it worked. Part escape room and part psychological mystery, we follow multiple perspectives in short snappy chapters that keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.

I did find this slightly on the long side for a book with a singular location, and thought the plot started off a little slow and repetitive but the pace soon picks up once things start coming together. If you can look past the fact this is on the implausible side (it is a thriller after all), this is an enjoyable, gripping and engaging read that I think would make a great movie. There was a definite turn of tone at the end and I really liked the surprisingly wholesome conclusion. I'll definitely be looking out for more work by this author.

I did really enjoy reading this book. There was a lot going on and I feel like it took a while for the realisation of what Joel wanted from Kate came out. I was however still quite intrigued and wanted to know what was going to happen.

Kate goes for an interview for her dream job. Things don't quite go as expected and she soon realises this interview is like no other she has experienced. What does Joel want from Kate?

I would recommend this book.

Gripping and compelling locked-room thriller, packed with intrigue and suspense.

Kate has been invited to an interview for her dream job. The last 15 months have been dreadful following the death of her husband in a plane crash and she feels the need to push herself out of her comfort zone, back towards the person she used to be.

Edge is a far cry from the small, traditional PR company where she currently works, and she wonders if there will be some crazy exercises in store. But the interview techniques they employ are more extreme than she could ever imagine and she finds herself fighting for her life.

A real page-turner. Highly recommended.

Kate has had a terrible year, but when she gets the interview of her life she is nervous but excited, a job at Edge is just what she needs, but once the interview with Joel starts Kate realises this is an interview like no other.
A fast paced thriller with plenty of twists.

I was really excited to read this book and although I enjoyed it I often felt a bit 'what on earth is going on'
It certainly moved at speed but felt a little bit too unbelievable at times, even though I like escapism in a book this just seemed a bit too much.
I was given this book by netgallery for an honest re?view

This book was a crazy escape room style thriller that makes your question everything that you have read so far. I loved it, I felt very claustrophobic and loved the setting, so secluded. It was a great locked room thriller with constant questions!

Such a clever concept here - an interview that's nothing like what you would expect when you walk in.. Tense and claustrophobic.

It’s 5 p.m. on a Friday.
You have been called to an interview for your dream job.
In a stunning office thirteen floors above the city below, you are all alone with the man interviewing you.
Everyone else has gone home for the weekend.
The interview gets more and more disturbing.
You’re feeling scared.
Your only way out is to answer a seemingly impossible question.
If you can’t . . . what happens next?

"The Interview" by C.M. Ewan is an interview that I wished I missed.

Be forewarned: The phrase "gripping thriller" that describes this book in the publisher's introductory blurb is very, very misleading.

What happens when a woman goes for a job interview that really isn't a job interview?

Although the book's premise is compelling, the execution of the storyline is poor and the plot quickly becomes ludicrous and far-fetched.

I lost track of the times I felt my eyes rolling and telling myself that this would never, ever happen in real life.

This author knows how to write and has a massively proactive imagination, some may say it is a little far fetched and unrealistic, kind of like Escape Room but based around the lady who is invited for an interview, that is anything but an interview! I continued with the book, although it took me a few sittings I managed to finish it and understood once I reached the end.

Absolutely riveting. What a great concept but so believable. I really can’t wait to buy this for my husband and other sick friends! I’m not going to do a plot synopsis as I’m sure others have done that previously but what I am going to say is …. Be prepared for the unexpected.

Wow. What a thriller. I agree that this is somewhat far fetched in places, but it is a fiction book after all, so this didn’t bother me in the slightest.

I absolutely loved reading it, full of twists and turns and surprises. I don’t think I will ever go to an interview ever again!!

I’m very conflicted on this book! I absolutely flew through it as it was such a fast paced book and I was really intrigued as to where it was going. However some of it seemed so far fetched and parts of it seem to take a while to go anywhere. I think the book could have been shorter and it would have worked a little better.

That being said, I did enjoy it and loved how consuming the book was! You become totally engrossed in it and parts were really quite edge of the seat - my heart was pounding!!

I found this one really suspenceful and thrilling. At times i did think it was going too far into the ridiculous but then it pulls back.

A typical C M Ewan book…..epic! When you think it can’t get any worse, it absolutely does! Maybe it goes too far in parts and becomes too fantasy for me but overall a brilliant read.
