Trigger Warnings: Animal abuse and rape

No One Can Hear You Scream by A.B. Whelan was an average read and not my favorite book by the author. I felt it took too long to get going and I almost DNF at about the halfway point.

Thank you to NetGalley for the free digital ARC. All opinions are mine and voluntary.

I haven't read anything by A B Whelan before but oh my gosh after this book you can bet your last penny I will be reading more. this was dark, chilling, disturbing and grotesque, I loved it. The plotline was so good and actually qute credible in a world when many people including popular youtubers live out their lives on the internet and social media. The setting was great and really added to the gothic and tense atmosphere. I couldnt put it down I really loved it

This was a great read! A very modern mom who does daily vlogs, takes the outdoorsy trip her ex-husband had wanted to take their family with her boyfriend to a yurt in the middle of nowhere in rugged Montana, away from the bustle of the Los Angeles area. Their trip goes off the rails and Jennifer and her kids need to pull together to get through this chaos. It really made me think of the things we post online, like even this review. I really liked this book, the characters were very realistic.

If there was ever a character who I hated from the get-go is the horrible character in this book. This is one INTENSE book!! Lots of triggers in this book - animal cruelty, rape, kidnapping, murder … Jennifer is a famous internet influencer with her you tube videos and she is newly divorced with 3 kids and a new boyfriend. The new bf suggested they go on a week long vacation to stay in a yurt (I had never heard of it so I had to google what a yurt was) off the grid with no phone, no electricity, no internet, etc. A you tube follower of Jennifer’s is out to get her. That’s who I hate. This story was so realistic at times, I thought what would I do if this was me? Frightening for sure! It kept me guessing till the very last page. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published October 2021.

Successful YouTuber Jennifer takes her three children and boyfriend to the wilderness for a get away, but one follower sees this as the perfect opportunity to follow her and finally live out the sick fantasies that he’s been imagining for so long.

Atmospheric, exciting and absolutely nail biting. This psychological thriller had me racing through the pages!

Oooh…normally I’m not spooked by horror or thriller books, but this one definitely left me feeling uneasy! I’ll warn you right now, this is not a book for people who have triggers. From animal cruelty, rape, child abuse and murder, this was unsettling just because it was so realistic.

Jennifer Parker, mother of three, vlogger and recently divorced, is about to take her kids on vacation with her new boyfriend, Tyler. Her ex, Connor, is an outdoorsman, so Tyler decides to take them off grid to a yurt in the mountains of Montana. His need to compete with his girlfriend‘s former husband (ugh, the machismo) makes him take this risk, even though he’s not an experienced camper.

Jennifer is also nervous about being in a remote location with no cell service and no help for miles, but she really wants this chance to start making memories with Tyler (plus this will be great for her vlog) so they pack up the kids and head to Montana. Connor teaches them about bear mace, splitting wood for a fire, etc., but the family really could’ve used a different kind of survival class.

I can’t say much else without spoiling things, but this is definitely a book you won’t want to put down. It’s written from the perspectives of Jennifer, Connor and Alex, the man who ends up writing a book about the family’s story. It’s definitely suspenseful and definitely thrilling. A solid four stars for this one.

(I’d like to thank the Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and A.B. Whelan for the free copy in exchange for my review.)

Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy. No One Can Hear You Scream was a frightening look at how one famous YouTuber was stalked and basically tortured by one of her so-called fans. The story is narrated predominantly by Jennifer. She has a You tube vlog for other stay at home mothers and is successful at it. Recently divorced and with three children, aged 9 - 17, Jennifer, her kids, and her new boyfriend take a trip to a secluded mountaintop with the hope that spending time together, unplugged, and in nature will be a good bonding experience. A sociopath "fan" of the vlog follows them up to the mountain where of course there is no cell phone reception or means of contact with the outside world.
A few of the chapters are narrated by Alex, a journalist who is interviewing an inmate in the hopes of writing a true crime book based on the killer's perspective.
There are a few twists, some predictable, some unexpected. It was fast paced and easy to read in one sitting. I really enjoyed it.
Warning, there are a few scenes of animal abuse as well right from page one.

The animal cruelty in this book seriously upset me. I usually read with my beautiful dog curled up by my feet and I struggled to get through the pages full of violence. I really think the author should highlight this as I definitely wouldn’t have chosen to review it.

It started as a vacation of a lifetime.
Jennifer Parker is a successful lifestyle YouTuber living in a beautiful home outside Los Angeles with her three children. She recently divorced her husband of eighteen years and dove right into a new relationship despite her children’s disapproval.
Jennifer’s boyfriend, Tyler, is a middle school English teacher and a mama’s boy. To prove to Jennifer that he can be as macho as her ex-husband, he presents the idea of going on an off-the-grid vacation in a yurt in Montana. The idea of not having cell phone reception and running water for days doesn’t appeal to Jennifer. Yet, she agrees to the trip because she considers this unique retreat an opportunity for her children to connect with her boyfriend.
Most of Jennifer’s subscribers are excited about following their favorite online vlogger on an adventure in the wilderness, while others see her vacation as the perfect opportunity to get close to her and act out their twisted fantasies. Alone on the mountain, where no one can hear her scream, Jennifer realizes that it wasn’t the deep, dark woods she had to fear.

What a gripping and thrilling read this was!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more from this author as I am never disappointed!!
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.

Firstly I want to say thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book. Sadly I didn’t get very far in the book and gave up at around 20%. Firstly I was massively put off by the animal cruelty and violence which was pretty much right at the start of the book and sadly I think that just put me off the rest and I just couldn’t get back into it. Which is a shame as I was really looking forward to reading this book.
However just because I didn’t enjoy it or couldn’t get into it doesn’t mean other people won’t. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted. I can cope with most things but animal violence is a no go for me.

NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM is a gripping psychological thriller about obsession, survival, and family bonds, by bestselling author A.B. Whelan.

Please Note that this psychological novel contains SERIOUS ANIMAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE. I wish I had known this before selecting this novel to read and review. Being an animal lover, I do not like to read about animal cruelty and wished I had been cautioned at the beginning, as I quickly flipped the pages.

Jennifer Parker’s boyfriend, Tyler had just moved in with her and were now starting a new life together. Jennifer, a successful YouTuber, was recently divorced from her husband, Connor, of eighteen years and lives in a beautiful home in Los Angeles with her three children, Jayden the oldest at 17 and Emily (14) and Noah (9) and now a new man despite the children’s disapproval.

Tyler was a middle school English teacher and a “mama’s boy”. In order to break the mold and prove his masculinity, he suggests going on an isolated off-the-grid holiday in the mountains of Montana. Where there would be no cell phone reception or running water. Not very appealing to Jennifer, but she agrees to the trip because maybe there was a chance for the children to connect with her boyfriend.

What followed was a vacation of a lifetime where a family is trapped on an isolated mountain at the mercy of a sociopath killer.

Jennifer’s subscribers are excited about following their favorite online vlogger on this adventure in the wilderness.

Having really enjoyed so many of the author’s previous novels, I found I was disappointed with this one, because the animal violence at the beginning tarnished the entire novel for me. Looking forward to her next novel.

A new author for me and OMG WHAT A READ!!!
I read this book in one sitting I could not put this book down. Atmospheric, chilling, terrifying there really are not enough adjectives to describe this tour de force of terror. I had goose bumps on my goosebumps. A MUST READ and I am now searching for more of this authors work. WOW WOW WOW!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

OMG. This book is phenomenal! When I started reading it, I couldn't stop. I needed to know what would happen next! I was screaming inside, biting my nail in every turn of the page. So captivating and insane in a strange kind of way. The main character is very likeable and the bad guy is batshit crazy! There's too many layer to the story I can't single out every good thing. Such an awesome experience. This is my first book from this author and I can't wait to read more. Wicked.

That. Was. Terrifying! I can see that this book might be quite polarising but I enjoyed it. I have enjoyed most of Whelan’s books but this one was supercharged. Full disclosure though this book will have red flags for a number of people. It opened with a scene of the brutal murder of a mini long-haired cow called George and went on to include quite graphic rape and humiliation scenes. If you are squeamish - forget it. It was almost too much for me but I kept reading because I was transfixed by Whelan’s precise wielding of the scalpel - she really captured the pain, shame, humiliation and rage of the victims.

The book starts, unfortunately with George’s murder, but after that there are 2 plot lines. One follows Jennifer Parker, lifestyle influencer and vlogger and her boyfriend Tyler and three children - Jayden 17, Emily 14 and Noah 9. Tyler is younger than Jennifer and struggles to live up to the reputation of her ex-husband Connor, particularly with the children. He suggests a short getaway at a remote yurt in Montana without any mod cons, just to bolster his tough man credibility. The other plot line involves Alex interviewing psychopathic killer Paul Hoffman for a book. At about 30% you start to get an inkling how these plot lines come together but then…. Then you are catapulted into the horror.

So there they are, in the middle of nowhere. No phone, no internet, no neighbours. Note to self - never have a holiday that takes you completely off grid, always have a plan B. Anyway this obsessed fan of Jennifer’s holds them hostage while he plays out his sick fantasies. And they are sick. I cringed - a lot! I don’t want to say any more. You have enough information to decide whether you want to read this or not. It’s not pretty but I do think the author captured the feelings of the victims extremely realistically. Thanks to Netgalley and Burbank Books for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

DNF at 42%.

I loved two previous books by the author, but just couldn’t get into this one.

A YouTube influencer goes with her boyfriend and three children to an isolated yurt in the mountains. No cell phone reception, flushing toilets, running water, or electricity.

A possible follower, clearly unhinged, follows her to the yurt to wreak havoc on her life.

Up to the point I stopped reading it, it was told in two perspectives. One was that of the influencer. The other, I’ll keep quiet about. Either way, the second one didn’t appeal to me.

I wasn’t captivated, and decided to call it quits after this kind of dialogue:

“I got tired of watching you spending all your time with that dumb animal. I mean, what kind of world do we live in where a f**king baby cow gets a hundred thousand followers? All those fu**ing idiots, wasting their time watching a fu**ing cow eat grass! I practically have to beg my friends and family to like my posts.”

I forgot to mention, the book starts off with video footage of a cow being brutally murdered. It appears that the killer was jealous of the cow and his followers...and that sets this guy on a trail of destruction.

I’m guessing there’s more of a backstory, but I didn’t care enough to find out. Incidentally, I wouldn’t be surprised if he really was just jealous of the cow. These days, anything is possible.

Sincere thank you to Burbank Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I hope others enjoy it more. Now available.

I am somewhat new to [author: A.B. Whelan]’s novel. I did read “If I Had Two Lives” and enjoyed it.
Story starts with Jennifer Parker, mother of three and is a video blogger aka influencer who is very successful. She uses and reviews products for cooking as well as health and beauty.
She has divorced Connor after being married for 18 years. Soon after her divorce she becomes involved with Tyler. Tyler is younger, never married, a middle school English teacher and lives at home with his mother.
Jennifer’s family is upset with her divorce and her children don’t like Tyler.
Tyler wants to prove he is every but the man as Connor and wants to take Jennifer and the children to the mountains in hopes of gaining the children’s love and respect. He selected a Yurt (yikes we went on a snow trip to Yosemite and stayed in the tent village. The tents were permeant, had a wood floor and also door to help keep in the heat. We had to use the community shower as well as the outhouse. The girls and I hated it! I cannot imagine staying isolated in a yurt!)

Jennifer agrees so they head to the mountains in nearby Bozeman, Montana. The Yurt is located in a secluded wooded area and certainly not an idea vacation situation.
After getting settled Tyler wants to bond with Jennifer’s oldest son Jaden and states they are going to explore the nearby woods. However, when they don’t return hours later, Jennifer goes searching.
She discovered that they have been followed by an obsessed fan, Paul Hoffman,

Note: This book came with a warning ~ Allow yourself enough time as you will want to read in one sitting.
Glad I stopped last night ~ I was ¾ in and it was so emotional! I thought since it was late I need to stop. So glad I waited to finish as the last part required more consecration to register what was happening.
A Wow read for me!
BTW: There is a trailer on this novel both on A.B. Whelan’s Instagram as well as her Blog.

This book creeped me out, it was a thrilling and disturbing story of being an influencer and fans gone wrong and a wild fight for survival. I read it it one sitting it was so gripping. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse for Jennifer, they did. I loved the character development and the background of the key players, and the side stories of Jennifer's ex-husband and a journalist visiting a man in prison kept things interesting and . There was the perfect twist at the end to seal the deal.

Highly recommend this book , I think it is going to be a massive hit.

WARNING: This psychological Horror novel contains SERIOUS ANIMAL VIOLENCE and CRUELTY! I wish I had known this before going in. I think animal cruelty ought to be a trigger warning as much as domestic violence and abuse, rape, murder, childhood abuse. I would prefer this novel had been packaged in a black cover. For interested readers, the violence to animals occurs VERY early on, so be cautioned. I wasn't.

In addition, other events occur which may be triggering to sensitive readers, so again, caution.

I did not relate to the female protagonist, an Internet "influencer" vlogger, whom I considered shallow and peripatetic. Neither she nor her children deserved the horrible events, though in her case, more situational awareness and less impulsiveness would have helped, especially from a woman who claims repeatedly that children should be maintained in innocence. Please! I am NOT victim-blaming, but one needs to use logic and common sense, be less trusting, more situationally cognizant. If you think something is amiss, maybe it is. Don't dismiss your instincts.

The novel ends with a significant twist, which some will find appealing; others not so. For me, the animal violence at the beginning discolored the entire novel for me. I'm not sure what I had expected of this novel, but I didn't find it.

A.B. Whelan has written yet another psychological thriller that will make you think about your next family vacation. No One Can Hear You Scream is Whelan’s newest book. This fast paced well written thriller is both addicting and disturbing. It is a terrifying story that is true to life. Fasten your seat belts because Whelan will take you on a very twisted ride that will make you dizzy! The storyline is real and her characters are well developed. I highly recommend you read this book but I would take caution if you are on vacation! Have extra time when you read this because you won’t be able to put it down.

Thank you A.B. Whelan, NetGalley and Burbank Books Publishing for an advanced copy of this suspenseful book in exchange for my honest review.

I really really enjoyed this book. Read In one sitting. Jennifer and Tyler were my favourite. 5*.
