Daisy has inherited a house in Provence from an aunt she never knew
Gabriel was told by Jeanette ( the aunt) that she was leaving the house to him when she died as she didn't know she had any relatives but he can't find her will
Daisy has employed Gabriel to repair and modernise the house but after 6 months nothing has been done so she decides to go to the house to see what is going on
Gabriel is the builder who is still looking for the will has been dragging his feet as he doesn't agree with what Daisy wants to do with the house
Can they iron out their differences and get along ?
Loved it

Daisy is a hardened London divorce lawyer, in charge, independent and inflexible. She lives life in the fast lane and is used to getting her own way. French builder Gabriel prefers a slower, more considered pace of life. He is hurt, angry and grieving and has no time for Daisy and the plans she is proposing. Sometimes in life your path unexpectedly crosses with someone so different to yourself, you appear to have nothing in common and yet you are inexplicably drawn to each other. This is true for Daisy and Gabriel. Despite their pre-conceived ideas and lack of flexibility, there is no doubt there is chemistry between them and I couldn’t wait for the inevitable emotional fireworks.

This is a book of many parts. It is deliciously hot and passionate, but as the truth behind their damaged pasts slowly comes to light it is also emotional, heart-breaking and painful. The more time Daisy and Gabriel spend together, the more they learn about each other, and themselves. It took a while for me to warm to Daisy, but I loved watching the subtle changes that affected them both and I desperately wanted them to give in to the chemistry and in doing so, give themselves a chance of happiness. With neither willing to let go of what is holding them back, it seemed an unlikely outcome.

Aside from the heat, the passion and the emotions, this book is also packed with lots of lovely French descriptions and detail that took me to Provence. The people, the village community, the French customs and traditions, everything blended perfectly with a storyline that was easy to fall into, but not so easy to put down.

If you are looking for an escape to France this summer, add this latest book from Sophie Claire to your holiday reading pile, you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

This is such a lovely, feel good read, with really great characters as well as a fabulous story.

Daisy inherits a house in France, from someone in the family she didn’t know. But the work she needs done on the house is not going to plan, as most people know that there was a will, in which the house was left to Gabriel.

She wants him to do the renovations to the house, but they can’t agree on what will happen with it afterwards as Daisy is wanting a modern holiday home and Gabriel had promised the owner that he would look after it and that didn’t include changing the way it looks. Both are used to having things done their way, but here, they both want the opposite to the other person.

Daisy’s childhood wasn’t easy and even though she’s liking her life in Provence, the past still is lurking and has an impact, not believing in love, but will she be able to get over what happened in her past life to let herself fall in love? But Gabriel does believe in love and is clear about what he wants.

Gabriel is a confident, fun character, whereas Daisy’s character has issues and her vulnerability is clear. I loved Gabriel’s friends, friendly and you felt like you knew them.

There was some hard issues that the story covered like parental death, neglect, each was done sensitively.

I recommend this book.

Predictable but still a nice enjoyable read. Definitely made me want to escape to sunnier climates and have a bit of an adventure of my own.

A great book about taking time out from a busy working schedule to allow escapism in the beautiful French countryside. Apart from a brilliant storyline, it shows the importance of family and community. Addressing a difficult subject matter which changes a person’s outlook on life and romance causing them to shut down emotions for a happy and fulfilled future.

I don’t like to give spoilers and try to give general opinions. After all, it is the reader who takes from novels different aspects. However, this is a book you want to read constantly and allows that escape to foreign shores and beautifully described landscapes with the addition of a ‘hot’ love interest.

BOOK REVIEW

An Escape To Provence by @sophieclairewrites

I discovered Sophie Claire a few years ago and since then she is one of the only authors I buy on release day. So when the opportunity to read her latest book early via netgalley came along I was very happy to be gifted with a copy. Thank you to the author, the publisher and @netgalley for this advanced copy.

Our main character in An Escape to Provence is Daisy, a hard working and dedicated lawyer who inherits a house from a relative she never knew. Heading over to Provence she meets Gabriel the man who is responsible for the renovations on the house. The pair instantly rub one another the wrong way because Gabriel was promised the house himself and its only because of a missing will that Daisy has it in the first place.

I love the way Sophie Claire writes. She instantly grips your attention and makes you eager to learn more about the characters. The settings used are lovely as I get to feel like I'm travelling to these villages and towns abroad without actually being there in person.
Daisy and Gabriel are great characters and I found it easy to like them and care about their lives and it made the novel such a lovely one to sit and enjoy.

If you haven't tried any of this authors books I highly recommend them, I have not been disappointed by one yet.

An Escape To Provence is released May 12th so it gives you time to check out this authors other books before this one is out.

An Escape to Provence truly spoke to me at first, mostly because I absolutely love Provence and southern France in general. And a bit of hate to love is always my jam. So of course I was very excited to read this book. I’m a bit torn about it though.

I ENJOYED

I loved the descriptions of Provence. The dry, hot air and flirring heat, the cicadas singing their song, calm early summer days, the smell of herbs in the air. It really made me miss this place. I could feel myself back, I could smell rosemary and lavender in the air, feel the sun’s scorching rays on my skin, taste fresh fish, hear the cicadas. The descriptions were vivid and real and created a beautiful, summery atmosphere.
All the food descriptions made me hungry. Listen, I love food. I love French food. I love when a book has descriptions of food and how to prepare it and how it tastes and how it makes a person feel. Loved that for the characters and for myself.
The conflict between Daisy and Gabriel. It’s easy to see why they don’t like each other and why their interests differ. They come from different backgrounds and have different plans for their lives that don’t really match. Nevertheless they admire each other for various reasons and are drawn to each other. Yet still they know themselves really well and also get a good feeling for the other quickly. I liked how their relationship was written, it felt realistic.
I loved the feeling of the village and its community. Everyone there is friends and it’s basically one big family that is very open and friendly and embraces everyone. It fits the wholesome, warm atmosphere of the rest of the book.

I DID NOT ENJOY

What annoyed me most was the drama at the end. Like, I knew it was coming. I just didn’t see how it was coming. Because except for the last few pages, the reason for the drama was not mentioned a single time nor was it really hinted it. It felt very random. It really threw me out of the story.
It felt a bit long to me. All the „will they won’t they“ was a bit too long and dragged in some parts.
While I enjoyed reading about the characters, I didn’t really get attached to them. Both were so set in their ways and so stubborn and I did not warm up to them at all.

Overall, I enjoyed An Escape to Provence, it was a lovely and gentle romance that really, really made me miss summers in Provence. It’s the perfect read for hot summer days where you wish you were somewhere else and rainy, cold seasons to dream you away to nicer weather.

Daisy inherits a rundown house in Provence and goes over there to fix it up and rent it out. She then meets Gabriel who was led to believe that the house was left to him in the previous owner's will

An enjoyable book set in a gorgeous sounding Provençal village.
Well written with fully-formed, believable characters and a storyline that kept my interest from start to finish. I wasn’t sure I quite bought into the successful career woman gives it all up for a man (and a house) angle, but perhaps burn-out and an attractive, kind Frenchman could do that.
A great read for any time of year, but perfect for the warmer months and a summer holiday read.

What a wonderful, warm story, full of compassion and love, and I love the special community spirit that runs throughout the book. It just goes to show how we can change given the chance to slow down and understand our feelings

A reasonably good romance novel, if rather predicable in places, but if you want some warm sunshine colours bringing into your grey weather days than this book is for you!

An Unexpected Inheritance…?
An unexpected inheritance, a farmhouse in Provence and a battle of wits. Will romance blossom in the French sun, where is the elusive will and who will eventually gain control of the farmhouse? Engaging escapism with a well drawn cast of characters and light, easy read narrative.

This is a delightful novel. The descriptions of the food, drink, weather and general ambience of Provence made me feel like I was there. Nothing surprising in the plot, but a very enjoyable read. This would be perfect if you were going on holiday to Provence. I am now going to read previous books by Sophie Claire.
