Such a brilliant book on understanding teenagers. I certainly learned much from it, the exercises at the end of chapters were helpful.

I would recommend it to all parents of teenagers!

My children are still in preschool but I was interested in reading this because forewarned is forearmed. I’m so glad I did! I wreceived a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review and I have to say I will want to buy the print copy so I can return to this over the years. The information is current and includes the newest research on teen brain development through complex brain scans. The author cites her sources throughout the book and references Dr. Daniel Siegel, whose neuroscience research has been well-regarded. Further, the author, Terri Appelt, is an adolescent psychologist who culls from her own experience with clients. This book should be required reading for every parent. It is so helpful in learning the nuances of teen development and how parents’ influence must also be nuanced in a negotiation and supportive network.

I highly recommend this book for all libraries, therapist offices, and even book clubs.

Such a detailed book packed full of research, stats and extracts from interviews and conversations with parents and teens. There is such a lot in the book with each chapter looking at specific issues from what can appear quite light to some really deep conversation about social media, panic attacks and bullying. The book deserves a few re-reads to take it in properly, it is a reference manual and brings with it several ‘well of course’ moments as you realise you have been just the opposite with your teen!
