This book is about best friends Keeley and Jude. They have been inseparable since childhood. But when they wake up after a New Years Eve party they find Keeley's boyfriend stabbed to death. What do they tell the police and who are they trying to protect? This was a good book and i enjoyed it.

A man is dead but who killed him. All those at the party seem to have no idea. Two girls found the body but did they have anything to do with it? Can detective Chris Rice figure out this twisted tale of two best friends so close could they be protecting each other.

This was a dark yet interesting read. The true identity of the killer is fairly obvious early on but I liked seeing how the story developed the motive for their actions. Its a fairly quick story and resolved quickly time wise. The ending was intriguing and went well with the story but I wanted a little more acknowledgement about what happened to Jude especially from Keeley. The writing is good though I didnt like the detective in this. I just couldnt quite warm to his character or some of his actions. He needed a little more development. Apart from that it was a good crime thriller.

I enjoyed this book and was surprised to find out that it was a debut novel as the style of writing and story telling was polished.
It was told from the point of view of several of the characters which helped to flesh them out. Although the book was centred around the events of the night of the New Years Eve party there were lots of flashbacks which gave much more background detail. The recall of past events was extremely well done, much better than in other books I have read, there were shared as a characters memories and not just as a chapter out of sync with the books timeline so there was zero chance of confusion.
There were several twists, some things were not as they seemed and there some events that I suspected but the book flowed well and kept the reader fully engaged as more details were revealed throughout the book.
I am just not sure if the ending was what I had hoped for.

An enjoyable read, though I did find it quite slow in parts. Multiple time lines and character perspectives. There were quite a few characters in the story, but the only one I liked was Mason. A few twists and red herrings along the way. Recommend if you enjoy this genre. Great debut, I’ll look out for the next one.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, independent review.

Keeley and Jude are best friends who share everything. When they wake up after a New Year's party and discover Keeley's boyfriend stabbed to death next to them, they decide to share something else: the story they will tell the police. But who is protecting who, and can you share too much?

This is a story of two girls from totally different upbringings. Jude comes from a nice, "normal" respectable family, while Keeley comes from a dysfunctional household with a drug-dealing brother, but polar opposites attract and the girls continually protect each other. This means the reader is left guessing throughout just who is telling the truth and covering for the other.

This is a clever debut with lots of red herrings scattered throughout which kept me guessing. Social class and bullying were both heavily involved within the lead characters' lives. I did find the book difficult to get in to and struggled to like the characters, but overall a great psychological drama.

This was very different but very engaging trying to work out what happened. Fully recommended. The characters were very well developed and the suspense stayed throughout the book.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and net galley but the review is entirely my own.

A good debut novel. A story of friendship, secrets and loyalty. A death and who is covering for who and why. A good read with a great twist.

She and I by Hannah King is a compelling story of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice.

During the police investigation that follows, we learn how close Jude and Keeley really were growing up, how they faced down the bullies at school and how one kept a secret to preserve their friendship.

She & I by Hannah King .
Best friends share everything. But murder is different. Isn't it?
Keeley and Jude are closer than blood. They share everything: clothes, secrets, drinks – and blame. So when they wake up after a New Year's party to find Keeley's boyfriend stabbed to death beside them, they agree to share one more thing: the story they'll tell the police.
But who is their story really meant to protect?
As the murder investigation begins to send uncomfortable ripples through their community, the history of the girls' claustrophobic relationship comes under scrutiny, will the girls find there's such a thing as sharing too much?
I really enjoyed this book. Great story and characters. Gripping from the start. 4*.

A great psychological thriller. After a New Year’s Eve party, two friends, Jude and Hannah, wake up to find Hannah’s boyfriend has been stabbed to death. Most of the guests had taken drugs the night before and couldn’t remember much that they wanted to admit to. The detective in charge of the case has his own demons that we learn about later in the book. The more I read, the more my suspicions increased about one of the characters but it wasn’t until the end that I knew the truth!!

Very good!

This is a strong and assured psychological thriller set in the world of close friendship.

Jude and Keeley have been friends since they were small, despite very obvious differences in their backgrounds. Keeley has an older brother and a mother with issues whilst Jude is the daughter of committed parents and a younger brother. Both girls live close to each other in a small town in Northern Ireland.

After a New Year's Eve party just before Jude's 18th birthday the girls wake up to find a dead man, Pete, in the room with them.

Naturally the police become involved - great casting here of those who are determined to get to the truth! Throughout the book we reach back into the history of the two friends. The friendship feels desperately claustrophobic yet the author's writing allows the reader to feel as though they are viewing the action from the side-lines, thereby allowing us to try to work out where the truth lies!

Great debut and I will be looking for more by this author..

She and I is a very strong debut novel from Hannah King. Set in a small seaside town in Ireland, Keeley and Jude have been inseparable friends since they were young. They have very different family lives and Jude’s family reluctantly take Keeley under their wing when her mother dies, leaving her in the care of her older brother, Mack, who moonlights as the local drug dealer.
One New Years Eve a party spirals out of control, and the girls wake up with Keeley’s boyfriend dead beside them. Who killed him and who is covering up for whom?
They book quickly settles on a small cast of characters so you really get to know them as the police, lead by DS Rice, try to work out what happened. It’s cleverly done and I really didn’t know where the story was heading until the last quarter of the book. The police were well drawn too, I liked the very fallible character of DS Rice. The final outcome was fairly obvious with a nice twist just as the reader thinks it all over. This is an excellent first novel and I look forward to reading her books in the future.

Tense, Compelling Suspense…
A friendship is tested way beyond the realms of the norm in this tense and compelling suspense. When Keeley and Jude make a pact, invent a story, following a murder events spiral out of control. With a well observed small town, claustrophobic setting the murder investigation begins in earnest - where exactly will it lead, are the friends honest with each other and will their bond survive the fallout? An exciting debut and a gripping read.

She and I is a solidly written story about the friendship between Keeley and Jude and how it is severely tested after the events of a New Years party. It was an intriguing storyline that kept me reading and I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

A wonderfully well written debut from an author I’m very excited to see their next work! This is a story of a friendship tested in the strongest of ways, after both waking up to find one of their boyfriends stabbed to death they both agree on a story to tell the police, but who is risking more by keeping information hidden? And who is it benefiting?

A riveting concept that keeps you turning the pages all night long! Thank you to Bloomsbury & Netgalley for the ARC

An interesting read rather than an enjoyable one. I found it dragged a bit and I didn’t like the main characters very much so I just felt it was overlong. I’d give it 3.5 stars.
