For a mystery the writing was a bit slow and it took a bit of time to get into the book. Ultimately I ended up not finishing about half way since the writing style was just not for me, and I felt the characters lacked depth.

This was an engaging mystery. It not only contained a murder but also blackmail. It reads like an old fashioned English mystery, although it takes place close to the present time. I highly recommend this book to other mystery readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for the chance to read a copy of this book. Unfortunately, I had a hard time to connecting to this book and thought it took too long to get to the inciting murder from the cover copy.

AN INVITATION TO MURDER by Norman Russell. Modern day mystery with an old fashion appeal. Several murders, blackmail and a host of realistic characters. Plenty of twists and turns. An enjoyable read, was happy to have the Invitation to preview the book.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

I found it hard to place when this book was set initially.

It also jumps between characters thoughts and took a while to get into the murder (I definitely at 27% of way in and there hadn't yet been a murder). The blurb gave quite a bit away so I was just waiting for the murders to start.

I didnt really care for the characters but I did enjoy the way it read like an old school murder mystery. Unfortunately it didn't capture my interest and I dnf.

Thank you for the arc.

Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of An Invitation to Murder by Norman Russell in exchange for an honest review. Jessica Renfield lives in Renfield Hall. Her parents need money and want Jessica to marry a rich American, Karl Langer. He is coming tonight for dinner and Jessica has to behave herself. Jessica, however, is interested in another man. There is a man, Mr. Guy Lavender, who is out to ruin Mr. Renfield. Then Mr. Lavender ends up dead. This story takes some strange twists and turns. I didn't know what would happen next.

What a twisty, plot; there is so much going on and just when you think it can’t add anything new, it does. Super convoluted, but not in a bad way; lots going on and you just have to keep following till you get to the end. This was kind of like if Agatha Christie was alive and writing mysteries in the present time.

Welcome to Oldminster, a quaint little town where there’s always a mystery to be solved. And even the murderers are dripping with old-world charm. And lots and lots of crimes. There is almost no crime that isn't committed in this story but its such a fun read! Quirky characters, witty dialog and an interesting location. While it sort of reads like something from the Golden Age of mystery, this is a thoroughly modern murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

A cleverly executed cozy mystery you won't want to miss.

An Invitation to Murder takes us to the RenfieldHall where there is a party underway when their daughter appears covered in someone else's blood. Now that would not have anything to do with the previous murder, would it?

There is enough twists and turns in this novel to keep you guessing until the very end.

This was a really enjoyable Murder Mystery.

I really enjoyed the detectives and their investigations. So many exciting things were uncovered and I was kept guessing throughout

This book was like an homage to the classic murder mysteries that I adore but the novel was set in the modern day. I had a few issues with the timing of this book but still enjoyed it.

I will be keen to read more Murder Mysteries by this author!
