Sophie aka Sapphire is a drug addict, and sex work, circumstances, addiction and desperation drive her to do unmentionable things. It’s heartbreaking to think, but Sapphire’s story is credible, and one many homeless people could relate to. Sapphire and her sister Kelsey are placed in the care system after their mother dies. The very system that should have been there to protect two young girls results in failure, and Sapphire finds herself living on the streets of Manchester where danger is never far away.

Sapphires story is brutal, raw and intense, the author describes Sapphires descent into a world of drugs, violence and abuse frankly and in away that makes her story feel far more authentic and gritty. I really liked Sapphire. Despite everything that happened to her, she didn’t come across as a victim, but a survivor. Despite her flaws, she always looked for the best in people, and this sometimes led to the people closest to her taken advantage.

The story flows well and made for a quick, exciting read. The descriptions of the perils Sapphire faced living on the streets felt very real. If I had one small quibble, I thought the book ended too neatly. I’m not sure there are many girls living on the streets that it ended so well for. I thought it felt at odds with the authentic storyline, but this could just be me!

Sophie and Kelsey are sisters living happily with their mother but when she dies the sisters are alone as their father does want them living with his new family.
They are taken into care and after a short spell in a children's home they are separated, Kersey is adopted by a lovely family and Sophie finds herself alone after leaving her Foster home.
She finds herself on the streets which leads to a downward spiral taking drugs and working the streets changing her name to Sapphire
.very powerful and gritty I loved it highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Head of Zeus for the ARC

Wow.... another great read, sophie and kelsey live with their mom after the divorce, the girls dad and new wife dont want them around their children and when sophie and kelsey mom dies their dad refuses to take them in. Kelsey is fostered with a loving family, but sophie ends up in a foster home who are very religious she runs away and ends up on the streets, changing her name to sapphire. Very gritty, i was quite sad in places with what she went through. Highley recommend

Two sisters alone

Sophie and Kelsey have always had each other. When their mum is diagnosed with cancer and their dad fails to step up, they're forced to move into the care system. But Sophie knows they'll be okay as long as she's there to protect her sister.

Another great story by the author. She writes about young girls whose lives are thrown into peril. This one is mainly about Sapphire ( Sophie ) who due to the death of her mother , finds herself parted from her sister Kelsey.
Things happen and Sapphires life take a big downturn.
A gritty read , by the new queen of crime.
