Another cracking book from this talented author. I thoroughly enjoyed the pace and thrill of the wilderness trip, which starts out with the intention and hope of finding Tim’s remains so they can be laid to rest but rapidly turns into a race for survival. Each of the characters are revealed in conversations with Frankie, the first person narrator, who has dedicated her latter life to finding missing people that others have given up on. As an incidental, I learned a lot about trekking, survival and the power of 3. Can’t wait for the next Frankie Elkin’s adventure.

This is easily in my Top 5 Best Reads of this year!

This was book no#2 in the Frabkie Elkin series. I hadn't actually read book no#1 (I have since) but I dont feel like I missed out on anything by going straight in on the second book.

This was one hell of a captivating, intense read set deep in a forest in Wyoming USA. Lisa Gardner so clearly describes the surroundings you can almost feel the damp ground, shady closeted atmosphere and the tough terrain as of you were walking in the characters hiking boots.

Frankie Elkin is a recovering alcoholic who spends her life doing something quite strange and sometimes suspicious in some peoples eyes, she searches for missing people. Not for any monetary gain but a way to battle her own demons.

This case finds Frankie somehow wrangling her way in and joining the search for Tim O'Day. Not seen or heard of in 5 years since going missing on his stag so/bachelor party which involved himself and his 4 best friends going on a camping trip in the Wyoming forest.

This is meant to be one final search headed up by his rather angry father. Tim's mother is dying and her last wish is to find/find out what happened to her boy. Tim's four friends, some begrudgingly, join the search alongside a seasoned wilderness expert, a big foot hunter and a cadaver dog called Daisy with her amazing handler.

What follows is an intense, gripping and sometimes gaspingly fast paced that I could not put the book down. The pages seemed to turn themselves with each twist, turn and then the fantastically written ending.

There are alot of characters to get a handle of but each one brings something to the story and each is a strong as the next. No character is just a 'filler' including the amazing Daisy! A few of the characters are quite stand offish and rather unlikable to start with but I soon started to like every character in their own way.

The storyline is original to anything I've ever read before and the pace can leave you breathless. It hits max speed very early on and never slows down.

A book cram packed with tension, atmosphere and suspense. I cannot recommend highly enough!.

Massive thanks to netgalley and Random House UK for the ARC.

I have only read one other book by this author so was intrigued to find out what her other books was like.

I found this really easy to read and got settled into the story immediately. Frankie is essentially a volunteer investigator specialising in missing people. Apparently doing random bar work keeps her afloat.... even though she's a recovering alcoholic. A few things such as this didn't really make the story believable for me.

The pace was good and the cliff hangers off each chapter did keep me wanting to read to find out what was happening next. The build up and the mystery started off well and then I felt the story dragged a bit, I felt the story could have been cut down and when I got to the end I felt it was a massive anticlimax and it all came to an end quite quickly. Character building was good and we did get a background story for each of them which I liked. Overall the book was ok

Thanks Netgally for my copy

Another exhilarating Frankie Elkin (#2 to be more precise) from Lisa Gardner. I've never read a book by her I haven't been completely absorbed in and this is no exception.

I was hooked from the first page, and as usual I was kept guessing until my favourite author deemed it time to reveal the villain. A less common area for the book to be set, as we're used to the Boston backdrop, so it was nice and refreshing.

I have no criticism, nothing bad to say at all. I can't wait for the next book - I'd really like it to be more Frankie if possible! I think she's a great, complex character who has her flaws but is absolutely lovable with them. Nice, strong female lead with her own difficulties in life.

Great story. Frankie finds missing people,an unusual but likeable character who shows great grit and determination. Let's have more.

The first half of the book leaves the reader unsure of what the plot is likely to be however when things get going they really get going! Witty, like able characters lead the story, recommended.

This isn’t my favourite book of the year but it’s a very dark twisted tale of a missing man that turns into a race for her life through a hiking trail. It’s dark and twistie and enjoyable.

Loved this story and the Frankie character. Great read.

Love that Frrankie Elkin is back in another novel by Lisa Gardner.
Frankie is travelling and looking into a missing person, when she comes across another missing person and decides to help.
Tim went missing whilst on his stag weekend and years later his father and friends return trying to find Tim or what happened to him.
Others have been "recruited" to the search party and Frankie tags along for free.
Great read and a page turner while reading this - couldn't wait to see what had happened.

A great adventure and mystery. Five men go into the woods for a stag weekend ………..and only four return.
They have an annual reunion to repeat the hunt for the missing groom. After five years they include extra people who have experience and reputations for finding the missing.
There are many twists and turns. A great read.

One Step Too Far is the second in the Frankie Elkin series which I didn’t pick up on before I decided to read this but it does ok as a stand-alone so don’t be put off if you’ve not read the first.
Frankie Elkin finds missing people, she’s rather good at it but she does it for free. It distracts her from her demons. In this book we find Frankie joining a search party for Tim, he went missing five years earlier on the eve of his bachelor party. His father leads a search party every year to try and find him. Frankie has a way with people and manages to get them to tell her things they wouldn’t normally. There were some interesting characters in this book and I liked that there was a good twist even if the plot was a bit far fetched. I also liked it was set in a forest in the national park in Wyoming as it gave the plot a different kind of atmosphere.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK Cornerstone for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to Lisa Gardener, Random House and NetGalley for the ARC of One Step Too Far.

When I first picked this one up, I hadn't realised that One Step Too Far was the second in a series, with the main character Frankie Elkin on her second cold case mission, that said, it worked perfectly well as a stand alone text.

Frankie is battling her own demons - a recovered alcoholic who lost the one she loved, She sets out to solve the cold case of a young man who went missing in the woods, something she does as a way to bring closure on her own personal challenges.

5 years ago Tim went camping with friends for his stag do, In the middle of the night, one of the group went missing so he set off to find them. Whilst Scott returned, Tim did not. Every year since, Tim's father Martyn has taken the group back to the woods to try and recover his son's body and learn the truth about his disappearance. With his wife dying from cancer, this is his last chance to learn the truth. But what is the truth and how far will someone go to keep it hidden? Who can you trust?

I loved learning about the back story and relationship between these 5 friends, and the intensity of the woodland setting and the constant threat was really gripping. This book however is LONG and at times I did find myself wanting things to happen a little faster. As such, despite enjoying the book, I felt almost relieved when it ended. It's quite an intense read.

Having read and quite enjoyed other books by Lisa Gardner I expected to be entertained by this title. I didn't expect to be so completely drawn in from the first page. The reaction to whatever had happened on a camping stag do when 3 of the 5 men stumbled back into town was immediately engaging - Bear! Mountain lion! the third guy vomited and a repeat of this announcement to whoever would listen was clever.
Then we moved to the yearly attempt to solve the riddle which eventually comes to the attention of Frankie Elkin who has her own demons.
Each of the main characters are well developed; the story so compelling; the surroundings wild and threatening; I was exhausted by the end of the book.
A solid 4 and a half star read!
Many thanks to Netgalley/Lisa Gardner/Random House UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is the first book by Lisa Gardener that I've read but it certainly won't be my last.
Even though this is the second in a series of books, you can definitely read this as a stand alone story, which I did.
This had me on the edge of my seat a few times and definitely kept me captivated the whole way through.
It may be a bit far fetched but it was well written.
There was also a nice twist.
I would certainly be up for reading a third book in this series and I am now going back to read the first book, I enjoyed this one that much.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a fan of Lisa’s work for years now although much to my shame, I haven’t read her last three releases. When I was invited to take part in the blog tour for ‘One Step Too Far’, I thought that it would be the ideal opportunity to read her latest release and to reacquaint myself with her work. I read the synopsis for ‘One Step Too Far’ and it certainly sounded intriguing. I couldn’t wait to start reading so without further ado I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my copy of the book and settled down for what I hoped would be an interesting afternoon of reading. I wasn’t to be disappointed either as I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘One Step Too Far’ but more about that in a bit.
‘One Step Too Far’ is the second book in the series featuring Frankie Elkin. Frankie is a lady who deals with tracking down missing people. She doesn’t do it for the money but she wants to help reunite families with their missing loved ones. She has been very successful although not all the reunions have been happy ones as most of the people she tracks haven’t been found alive. I liked Frankie. She is a plucky young woman, who doesn’t scare easily and she is certainly determined to do everything within her power to achieve her aim of reuniting families. I liked Frankie and I began to think of her as being a friend.
I have to be honest and say that it took me a little while to get into ‘One Step Too Far’ as I got a bit lost with who was who. However the story soon settled down and I began to feel that I had got to know the characters a bit better. Once I got into the story then that was it and I was away. I was intrigued by the disappearance of the man, who was due to get married. I also found those who made up the search party to be rather interesting and I felt as though they weren’t all being honest. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen so I had to keep reading to see if I had stumbled anywhere near the truth or if I had waddled off in the opposite direction entirely. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. I found ‘One Step Too Far’ to be a gripping, tense and dramatic story which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘One Step Too Far’ is superbly written. Lisa has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. Lisa certainly knows how to draw the reader into what proves to be a compelling read and then take them on one hell of a journey. For me the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. Reading ‘One Step Too Far’ felt like being on one hell of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I love the way in which Lisa makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. Through Lisa’s very vivid and realistic descriptions, I felt as though I was right there in the middle of the woods with the search party and I kept jumping every time I heard a noise.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘One Step Too Far’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Lisa’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

I think One Step Too Far is a book that might appeal to readers who haven't become saturated with thrillers. Unfortunately I have read so many now that I find it hard to enjoy this particular genre. Plots become increasingly far-fetched and test the limits of believability.

That being said, this is not a bad thriller. It has twists and turns, and a damaged and complex protagonist who saves the story from being too focused on the thrills and spills without any depth.

If you like the sound of being lost in the woods with mysterious noises and the sense of being hunted, give this a go!

Frankie Elkin is good at finding people and joins the annual search for a man Tim who disappears in a national forest when he goes camping with his college mates.
Am a big Lisa Gardner fan and really like book no 2 in this new series.
There are lots of interesting characters and Frankie has the knack of getting information from them.
I loved the location of Wyoming and the forest - very atmospheric.
4.5 Stars ⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review.

Lisa Gardner is an author I have enjoyed to some extent over the years and I find myself having read the second of her books with Franke Elkin who, apparently, searches out bodies and mysteries in cold cases in various states of the USA. Her lifestyle is slightly reminiscent of Reacher - but in this case not a bad thing.

Frankie is drawn to find the body of Tim O'Day and she travels to the national parks of Wyoming to join the search party for him. This young man went missing on his bachelor party in the woods five years earlier. Frankie joins up with the latest search party which includes Tim's father, Luciana and her cadaver dog Daisy, three of Tim's college buddies, ,a "Bigfoot" game hunter and a search and rescue specialist.

The sheer remoteness of the location, the hiking through the dense terrain and basic camping are all really well described and sometimes very atmospheric. The book really comes to life when Frankie and her colleagues have to escape a really dangerous situation; I will say no more.

Yes, Frankie is annoying at times with some of her questions but nothing will shift me away from 5 stars.

Thanks to Net Galley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the chance to read and review this book.

I couldn't decide who was dodgy and who was authentic here. Frankie is a great character, I love how she gets to the heart of the situation and can work around it. What a lifestyle to choose though! There were some terrifying moments, especially when they were first searching Devil's Cauldron and you really didn't know what was going to happen. Suspenseful and scary! A good story. #netgalley #onesteptoofar
