A blend of murder, intrigue and romance. A well thought out story. Ben is a firefighter that dies in a fire on his off time. But why was he there in an empty warehouse? Sunshine is the widow that just won't give up believing he was not guilty of setting the fire. The story is her fight to prove him innocent while trying to survive with his loss. I was so engrossed that I never put the book down until I flipped the final page. Excellent story.

Sunshine's world was rocked hard off its foundation by the sudden death of her husband. She has lost her anchor, and there was no time to think defeatist thoughts. Her kids needed her now more than ever.
As if that wasn’t enough for her to deal with, she now had to worry about their lives. Cause the killer wasn’t satisfied. It was an intriguing and entertaining read.

A roller coaster of emotions! Romance, suspense and a little brush with the supernatural, Dark Flames has what it takes to hook the reader and keep him tied to its pages. I do not recommend starting to read it in the afternoon or at night if the next day you have to get up early to go to work... I say this from experience!

Part of a series but can be read as a stand alone book.

The plot is revealed through several points of view - pay attention as the narrative changes abruptly.

Suspenseful, complicated thriller.

While I liked the story, I felt the execution of it a bit clumsy. There were many threads going on which were all interesting but some were not integral to the story. Then there were the various POVs which for the first half of the story seemed very disjointed. But by the second half, everything seemed to even out and read more smoothly. While there is a suspense aspect, I didn’t find it heart pounding since it didn’t play a major role until close to the end. Most of the story dealt with Sunshine’s daily life with work and kids under the shadow of her husband’s suspicious death. There is a believeable but low key romantic aspect. My favorite scenes were with Bobby, another couple’s child and with Matt’s dad, Judge Bentley.

🔥🏘 Excellent😍!

A really well-paced whodunit with a bit of romance, this was my first venture into Tess Thompson's Angel Falls series, set in a small New Mexican town, and now I can't wait for the next book to come out!

An off-duty firefighter died under suspicious circumstances in a blaze leaving a wife and two children. His widow Sunshine never wavers in her conviction that her husband Ben was innocent of setting the fire. Soon ATF agent Matt who grows quite fond of Sunshine and her kids begins to dig deeper into the case.

I read this as a standalone and, though some characters return from earlier in the series there was no sense of cliffhanger or unresolved issues left over from the previous story. The author team's writing style is straight to the point and, though there are romantic feelings taking hold it's not the main focus and their interaction is limited and clean.

I loved the interplay of old events with the present and recuperating judge Eli adds a touch of warm and humor and he acts as a major catalyst in bringing Sunshine and Matt closer. For me it was not difficult to guess the identity of the fire bug fairly early on but I enjoyed the suspense and drama right through to the touching final page.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary copy of the book; this my voluntary and honest opinion.

Sunshine knows that her husband Ben didn't start the fire that killed him. She is finding it very hard not having him around to help with the children and she doesn't know what do to as the bills are mounting. So when she is offered a lifeline she knows that she needs to take it. There is only one problem Matt Bentley as he was investigating Ben's death and he was thinking that Ben started the fire seeing that he was a firefighter that wasn't on duty that night. But she hopes that he will help her prove that Ben was innocent. Her & the kids get on well with Judge and Sunshine is enjoying her time living there. But things are changing between her & Matt and she can't allow that no matter what. Will Matt be able to find out the truth about what happened that night without losing everything that he cares about? A great read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Sunshine Davis is a widow. Matt Bentley is the ATF Agent investigating Sunshine's firefighter husband's death in a suspicious fire that Matt seems to think was started by the firefighter himself. Sunshine refuses to accept the findings of the official police investigation. Matt has reluctantly agreed to take another look into her husband's death.

The more Matt re-investigates, the more he learns that someone doesn't want the truth to be revealed and is willing to kill to keep his secrets.

Sunshine's home is broken into and ransacked. Then the home she's temporarily staying in is set on fire. Matt thinks that someone is looking for something .. or trying to destroy something .. but what? What did the firefighter know that got him killed?

It's an action-filled suspense novel with a heart-warming romance. Sunshine and Matt are genuine characters with a lot of depth. The romance is sweet and unassuming. The conclusion was well done ... a real nail-biter.

Many thanks to the author / BooksGoSocial / Netgalley for the digital copy of the Romantic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Sunshine’s fireman husband Ben died in a suspicious fire and according to the department, he is suspected to be an arsonist. With only her salary to live on, Sunshine takes on a second job working evenings helping Judge Eli Bentley as he recovers from a stroke where she discovers that his son Matt, the arson investigator in Ben’s death is still privately working on the case.

Meanwhile the real arsonist is watching and believes Sunshine has information that may point to his involvement. The race is on to find the evidence and keep her family safe.

A young widow, sunshine, and her children are coming to terms with the death of her firefighter husband, Ben, who is suspected of malpractice. The investigator from the ATF, Matt, has been injured and is off sick so cannot continue the investigation. Too many look at the easy way out, Ben was guilty, is now dead and that's that. The story revolves around Sunny pushing really hard to get her husband exonerated as well as having to find more work to cover her living costs - insurance not being offered at this point. Matt's father is recovering from a stroke, Sunny's house burns down, attempted murder all amidst developing romance between the two main characters. A goodly part of the book is about the investigations with the romance secondary. I've also read and reviewed book 6 which is set in the same town and many of the same characters. Similar threads of murder, mystery and romance but this one, book 5, is much better - more intrigue, less romance. Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a romantic suspense by the author and I’m glad that I did it now because I loved it.
The heroine is bold while also human and emotional especially after she’s left with two small kids and a widow with lots of questions about her late husband.
Matt was an interesting addition to the story and I enjoyed how he made the transition for Sunshine much easier plus that push and pull between them was just fire.
I’m looking forward to read the next books in the series and already finished book no. 6 , review to come soon.
